Late to this song, well done. East London/ metropolitan Essex where I grew up is one boarded up old pub after the other or now a block of flats. All that history, all those stories gone. Weatherspoons are the Starbucks of pubs, generic Tory run shitehouses. Cheers!

It really is a tragedy that the old 'Traditional' pub has gone. I would suggest that it's loss is one reason why mental health issues are becoming endemic. I'm NOT suggesting the alcohol is good for mental health, but I am suggesting that a good chat with friends, or even non-judgemental total strangers IS good for mental health, and there was nowhere better for that sort of thing than a local pub! Nowadays if you speak to someone in a pub, it's often seen as an invitation to a fight, socialisation just doesn't happen how it used to! Nowadays you go out with 'Your group' of friends, and stay with them for the evening, isolated from other similar groups, not interacting as a 'Community'....I used to work in a traditional style pub, different groups in different parts of the pub, there was 'Death row', a single row of 2 stool tables facing the bar), the vault, The middle room, and the no smoking room, people from different rooms would interact with each other when they went to the bar, people in the same room would interact with others in the same room while drinking. The music was quiet enough so that conversation could happen. Fights were rare, maybe twice in the 4yrs that I was there. The pub is still there with it's beautiful oak panelled interior but there aren't many like it anymore.
