My husband was a Santana freak! This was his favorite song. He would turn on this song every morning at 5:30am to work out. He had lots of Santana set it a loop to play while he worked out. Hes been gone 3 yrs now and how I miss him! This video brought me right back to those mornings that I was wakened to Santanas fantastic guitar. Thank you for the sweet memory!

Rob Thomas wrote this song for santana
@stevensheets36125 жыл бұрын
Santana was planning a comeback of sorts at the time and had an album nearly complete, but he / his production team felt it was lacking a true lead single, so his producer (I think) reached out to the label Rob was under with MB20 and asked if Rob could write / co-write for them (MB20 was still on top of the world from their debut album, and they knew Rob wrote that entire album himself basically). So Rob and one of Santana's songwriters ended up writing the track together. Santana hadn't even really known who Rob was until they met in studio to play back what Rob had come up with. A few articles about the song's origin have come out in the past few years, it's really interesting! :)

When I originally heard that was happening when this first came out, I thought they were crazy. But as it turned out it was the absolutely brilliant form of crazy that sees a possibility where others don't.

What a great, great song. What I love the most is how happy all the musicians seem to be playing with Carlos, and just as much, how happy Carlos seems to be playing with them. the appreciation he shows for his music, and for life inspires me so much. I wish I had the kind of gift that he has in music, and I wish I had the appreciation for life that he does. He's a very lucky man, and we are very lucky that we get to listen to his music.

Definitely! Although this song came out in '77, and Heart's hey days were in the 70's and 80's. Twice I had tickets to see Heart, and both times for whatever reason was unable to go. Once in 85' and another in 2010. Finally a couple years ago I got tickets for a third time and was able to go see them with my wife. Didn't disappoint! When my wife thought the concert was over, I said it's not over yet. They haven't done Barracuda yet. I was right over course. They saved Barracuda for the encore.

Dec 2024 and Carlos Santana is still one of the ten best rock guitarists ever. Right up there with Page, EVH, Jimi, Slash, Prince, who like Santana has never gotten the respect he deserves. Many legends to choose from but those 6 are on the majority of "best" lists. Just like the best Rock groups Beatles are always and for good reason, number 1. The rest are usually, in no particular order, Led Zeppelin, The Stones, The Who, The Doors, Queen, Journey, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Heart.

Two decades ago, when this song came out, I started playing guitar because of Carlos Santana. But then I quit guitar; I tought I would never be good enough, so I quit. And about a year ago, I picked up guitar again; I practice everyday, getting better and better, playing like I never imagined I could, and I've realized I was being too hard on myself back then. I'm not trying to get rich and famous or anything, I play because I love music, and here I am: paying my respects to my long time hero, the man who inspired me once and again; thank you, Carlos.

"SMOOTH" was CARLOS SANTANA's first number-one song in his long illustrious career. It was a global hit, peaking at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 12 straight weeks. It was the last number-one hit of the 1990s, the first of the 2000s, and the only song to appear on two decade-ending Billboard charts. In 2000, the song received Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Santana's "SUPERNATURAL" won both Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. Santana received an impressive total of eight awards that night.
