This week I take an in depth look at the bear Ausable reflex Deflex flatbow from Bear Archery. I'm not going to apologise for the fact that I'm totally in love with this bow.
Running it through the Chrony i was very happy with with the arrow speed! So sit back relax and enjoy the video..
Drop me a line at GrizzlyJim@merlinarchery.co.uk
The Ausable is available in 62" and 64" 35# - 60# (Sorry but i referred to it in the video as available in #65)

To be clear, Fred didn't just hunt in Grayling, Michigan (where the Ausable runs), he had his first factory there. My dad's first job was sanding bows in the shop in the 1950s.

Just purchased a 45# from 3Rivers. Looks fantastic in person. Nice craftsmanship and pretty light weight. Grip is comfortable and Bear leather handgrip feels good (not shown in video). Looking forward to shooting a few arrows. Hopefully this week. 👍

Just for the record the Ausable River runs right through the City of Grayling Michigan. Grayling was the world headquarters Of Bear Archery and the Fred Best museum. I visited the Museum back in the mid 70's And seeing Fred Bear's trophy Collection was overwhelming. Bear shortly after I visited moved To Florida to find cheap non-union Labor.

It's actually "phonetically" pronounced the Aw-Saw-ble.... Aaaaawwwwsawble. I know, being picky but it's a local thing. That's how they pronounce it in Michigan. Great Vid. Thanks Big Jim!

Hey an FYI from someone who hunts and fishes the area it is pronounced Au Sable "Ahh- Sah-bull" with the ahh drawn out a tad. It is famous for it's midnight hex hatch for fly fishing.

Nuttin Much, You are correct regarding the pronunciation of the river. I need to know where your'e a local from. I'm from Oscoda which is where the mouth of the river is. That is where i grew up. Would like to know the comparison between the Ausable and the Montana. Which one would shoot better?

Hey, great video and nice bow! The music was nice too, but in a bow review it would be cool to hear the actual sound of the bow shooting, if you don't mind me saying that. Could you please tell me what the draw weight, your draw length and the arrow weight were at 183 fps? Thank you!

Nice reviews. You outta do reviews on the super mag 48 and kodiak magnum. I have a slightly older variant of the super mag 48 and I tell you what I think you'd be surprised how smooth the bow is for how short it is

Nice review! I'd also like to know the arrow weight for that 183 fps. Okay--125 gr. points and 28" draw. (~29" arrows then?) 300, 400, or 500 spine? (I suspect 400.) If 400 spine, weight should be about 395 gr., but I also found the following specs on the Ted Nugent Signature series: 300 Spine: 10.8 grains per inch 400 Spine: 9.3 grains per inch 500 Spine: 8.4 grains per inch Fletching Weight: 7 grains each Insert Weight: 12.1 grains Nock Weight: 11.5 grains So would be 43.5 gr. heavier for a 300 spine. Thanks for any confirmation of my 395 gr. estimate, if you could.

It is very lame and misleading when posting arrow speeds without posting the draw length and weight of the arrow... As many reviews he has done, he should know this by now...

Hi from Canada! I am quite enjoying your videos, thanks for putting them up. I have a Bear Ausable 62" 50# and I draw 30". I am finding it "stacks" at that draw length (I measured with a bow scale and it is 58.75# approx at my draw weight and from what I've read it should draw around 55-56). Does it make sense to you that it would stack a bit at that draw? Oh and I am finding at that draw I need 300 spine arrows, 31" w 100 grain field points. Any recommendations for traditional arrows (wood & feather)? Thanks, Ian

This bow is extremely noisy with limbsavers and string silences attached. If you increase the brace height over 8 inches it is much quieter but you loose about 10 feet per second and gain considerable hand shock. When properly tuned with 480gr arrow. Captain Bowman.

I am looking at a 45# ausable, the poundage is at the top end of my abilities these days. I will primarily use it for hunting and I shoot instinctive. do you still see it as a performer? I have a 45# Kodiak Hunter but I prefer longbows. I was also curious as to what length string to use on the 64". I won't be taking shots over 2o yards but I still like the ability to be able to do so. I just love the fun of shooting a longbow. old man

Maybe in #45, however in #60 its unable to handle its own power, just after a few hundred shot, the limbs are cracking everywhere, around the tips the cracks are actually so bad they are cutting the the string, basically the bow is already useless...

I hear people mispronounce this river name. Drives me NUTS!! It's not Ausable, with the accent on the first syllable. it Au Sable! Two separate words with the accent in the first syllable of the second word.
