Another tip: Put some reflective stickers/tape on your canister in case you need to find your canister in the dark.

Thanks, great tip! That makes a big difference, especially when you realize you need something from the canister after stashing it for the night and it’s totally dark 😖

I don't get why you don't post more. Your videos are articulate, thorough and very enjoyable! Then again, I am not a KZbin content creator so it's easy for me to say this. Either way, I give it a 👍. Look forward to the next one!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! I intend to post more frequently this year. I’m currently editing a video of a trip to Grayson Highlands, VA and I’ve started work on a video about coffee brewing methods for the trail. Hope to post these soon. Thanks for subscribing 😄👍

I liked the tip about lashing a washer to the outside of the pack.

One thing about repackaging freeze-dried meals: If you repackage them in FREEZER Zip Lock bags, you don't need to save the original bag. I recommend writing the name of the meal and the cooking instructions on the Zip Lock bag with a Sharpie. Boil your water and pour it into the ziplock bag and follow the instructions.

Thanks so much for the tip! I’ve read about that method. Personally, I would opt for rehydrating a repackaged freeze-dried meal in my cook-pot. Freezer bags get really soft at boiling temperatures and should be supported by a cozy or something similar when filled with boiling water. One advantage to cook-pot rehydration is that heat can be applied during rehydration. This can be especially helpful when ambient temperatures are low and elevation is high. For example, the boiling point at 10,000 ft is 193°F. It can take considerably longer for a meal to rehydrate at that temperature when cooking on a cold day. And who likes crunchy rice? 😂

Good Morning ! You are correct about freezer bags needing support while the meal rehydrate. What I do is pour the water into the bag, seal the bag and put it inside the stove ( after I have turned the stove off ).

Awesome tip on the Tile products. I have 2 of them. Never thought of putting it in the canister.

Some of the smellies such as sun screen, soap and lip balm that I have been using on my body, how does that not attract bears at night?

You’re probably right. No doubt those could make them curious. I would hope that some of the other “human” smells would serve as a deterrent. Always good to be careful with any scented products, though.

This whole protects your food from bears strategy needs a rethink since I watched videos about at least 4 people being killed by bears; but hey, the food was fine? Those 2 campers in Canada had bear spray, no weapons in parks allowed, maybe if their food was out, they might have had time to escape, just throwing ideas out here, I know it won't be popular.

Thanks for sharing your comments! That’s tragic! There is no doubt that understanding bears and their behavior is key.
