Bear Encounter | TWIN LAKES CAMPGROUND (Mammoth Lakes, CA)

Hi guys, welcome back to my channel.
This video is different from my usual post. I just can’t believed this happened. A FACE TO FACE WITH A BEAR. Anyway, there has been a high level of bear activity at Twin Lakes Campground. A bear proof locker is located each site.
Sadly, when we were about to eat dinner Mama bear sneak attack and got our Steaks and Longganisa. Oh well, as long as we’re all safe. Im good! Still, go have fun guys but at the same time be aware of your surroundings.

this shouldn't have happened if you took proper precautions. There is a bear box/locker at your campsite, which isn't there for decorative purposes.

Yup.. I stay there every year and encounter a bear every time

This is why I never leave food unattended at my campsite. I prepare my meal, eat it right away and make sure any other food is immediately put in the bear box. And I never keep food inside my car at a campground, not even if it's in a bear canister. They can smell it and also peel your doors or trunk open like a can opener. This is why bears frequent car campgrounds because campers are very careless about leaving their coolers and other scented items out where they're easy pickens for the bears.

As someone who lives in Mammoth, I assure you, bear attacks are almost unheard of here. Black bears are docile and are not aggressive!

when i go camping i find out what kind of wildlife is out there. if there are bears, it’s a no go. never leave food out or have food in your tent because critters will eat through your tent to get to your snacks. go beach camping instead. a little safer.

Hello Leah so sorry that happened to you all. My father and I had something along that lines as we were fishing at June and George lakes three springs ago with a mom bear and her children. My father and I are even more aware of our surroundings as we fish. Thank you ago for your footage Matt.

The bear doesn’t seemed to be bothered by the noise or horn, he seemed comfortable with humans around, he must’ve been fed there at one time!

I heard from the other campers that she was a frequent flyer. Likes to visit random camp sites for food. We just happened to be preparing for dinner and she smelled our food and took it.

This is why you need to store your food in the bear lockers whenever you are not actively eating it. Even if you're only going to take a nap. You need to be prepared- this is their home and you are visiting it, you need to respect the rules. Both for your safety, and the safety of the bear. By leaving your food within it's reach (not in the bear locker, like you should have), it's teaching the bear that it can access food at these campsites. Which will encourage it to come back. And the more it comes back and gets close to people, the more it becomes in danger of being put down because of the threat to human safety. In other camps and national parks, you could've been fined for your negligence. Please do better next time. For your safety, and for the animals. They lived there first, we are just visitors.

The lady in the video is not complaining. People still see bears while hiking too. The bear was left alone and no beat was harmed. You make it sound like a problem or accident happened. If they want to cite people then they can put warning signs.

I’m not talking about a hike, I’m talking about campgrounds. That’s where we don’t want bears to frequent, because of the increased risk of danger to the humans that encounter them. You misunderstood the point of my comment

These people were lucky, but what if a kid was sitting at the table while the parents grabbed something from the tent or car? You have to be responsible when camping in their territory, and these people weren’t.

I was hiking with family my nephew and I tried to go Back to our tents and some how were lost for a while . A big brown bear came out of nowhere it was the scariest thing ever . I love mammoth but the bears come out a lot .

Wow Glad everyone is safe but so many things you all did wrong... bear spray is last resort when. Being attacked not meant to scare a bear.. and should never leave coolers and. Food out. Now these bears no exactly what to go for. And in the end the bear will likely be put down if captured.. Peoria should really educate on camping in a bear area
