BEAR HEAD LAKE STATE PARK | Kayaking & Hiking | Ely, Minnesota
Bear Head Lake State Park near Ely, Minnesota is a true gem! The lake is large however, Bear Head Lake offers a calm and relaxing kayaking adventure since there are narrow water ways and islands throughout the lake. You can always find a calm place to kayak and even do a little fishing. In my vlog I share the map of the calm waters we kayaked on the lake.
Once you are finished exploring the lake by water, throw on your hiking shoes and hit the trails. There are tons of trails to hike in Bear Head Lake State Park, whether you’re looking for a short hike to a beach or a longer loop hike around a lake, you will find it here. We did two short hikes: The first was from the boat launch area to the beach and the second was the Norberg Lake trail located right before the park entrance.
Fun Fact: Did you know this state park was named AMERICA’S Favorite Park in 2010? Yes, AMERICA, it beat out the Great Smoky Mountains. Can you believe it! Another reason I love Minnesota-we rock!
We enjoyed the perfect mix of kayaking and hiking at one of the most beautiful state parks on the edge of the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.
