This week are are all about bears! We start with a great hound hunt, then see Ted Nugent's MI bear hunt. We also stop in at a bear camp in the UP and have a Bragging Board as well!

I agree with Ted 100% I also got drawn for the Baldwin unit this year after 14 years of applying and to have the youth hunt going on for our opening day and early doe season the following weekend which is the only full weekend that our season allows just doesn't seem very well thought out. It doesn't take very much outside pressure to totally shut down an other wise active bear bait.

This was my favorite episode of the year !

For a guy who has been incredibly blessed and had more opportunities to pursue more game (both in verity and straight numbers) in more places than almost ANYONE watching Michigan Out-of-Doors, Ted sure complains a lot.

was gonna, say this too. i may grumble about mushroom hunters and metal detectors spoiling public land turkey hunts a bit, but when it comes to other hunters I like to keep my mouth shut. as much of a frustration as it can be if i didn't have to adapt and overcome it wouldn't be as fun.

bear hunts are cool and all but i have NEVER been more impressed by a stack of wood than i was at 11:54

Well you don't have to do it so there's no problem.

I live in the baldwin unit and I'm up to 10pts hopefully when I get drawn they have this time frame issue fixed definitely don't make sense. As for the point system Ted is so right i lived in crystal valley for 3 years now and I have tons of bear pics double, singles, and triples I have them all... the DRN are so off on population in this unit no need for 13-14pts for minimum thats just crazy

Hmm. Well I have to say, her shooting that bear off the top of the other guys back is extremely foolish for a few reasons. Also chasing a bear and having it be that freaked out for such a chase before it dies is so unsportsmanlike.
@SuperTedsmith3 жыл бұрын
I agree, I can understand baiting and shooting it suddenly but to scare and torment an animal right before it dies just doesn't seem right.

It’ll be a sad day when we can’t hunt with dogs anymore. An animal hunting an animal is about as “natural” as it gets, and thats seems like a position an anti-hunter would take anyway. It’s not a sport either. It’s hunting and we hunt for many reasons.
@michiganwoodsman21993 жыл бұрын
@@ethanjarvis5587 I'm a whitetail and black bear guide. I have killed probably 200 deer and many other animals. I'm definitely not an anti hunter. We should hunt for 2 reasons mainly, 1 Natural Food! 2, its instinctual. The dog deal just isn't my cup of tee and I'm sick of the dogs running my bears off my baits and the dog guys purposely letting them go on my trails to my baits just because they know theirs bears their.

@@michiganwoodsman2199 "your bears"? You own them because they hit your bait a couple times?

@@randysusa9598 Exactly, he sounds like one of these spoiled modern day hunters.

Nothing against hunting but....what do you do with bear meat"? I had it ONCE and that was enough. Yuk.
@barz513 жыл бұрын
I've had it before in baked beans and it was great. I'm betting in your experience it wasn't prepared well.

It’s very good when prepared the right way!

The most important point with bear meat is to trim absolutely all fat before the meat is wrapped and frozen. It's also a priority to take bear that haven't had an opportunity to feed on any trash.

I had my caption say, “ broken wrist, dad is a sponsor, and caught big lake trout and kings the day before” then added a pic of my youth hunt ten point and still wasn’t in the bragging board. What the turds!!!

There wasn't bears in the 60, now there lots of bears, but our wildlife managers are doing it wrong. What a wack job.

Shooting bears over bait or treed by dogs isn't very sporting.

That's your opinion and you don't have to hunt that way if you don't want to.

Must be hard to stand there and wait for a dog to do the hard work. I hunt and would hunt a bear but stressing an animal before it's death seems wrong. Just my opinion
@ethanjarvis55873 жыл бұрын
Training a dog takes a lot of time and effort. Work smarter, not harder, and hunting with a dog can bring a whole new enjoyment to hunting. I’m sure we’ve all shot “stressed” animals.

If you have to have a dog to hunt with you're not a hunter you're a city slicker
