I'm not American. But one of my biggest pet peeves is when I hear ppl say "Americans have no culture" it's an incredibly ignorant statement. America has a multitude of deep rooted cultures and Clay is doing an amazing job of showcasing some of them. This is a show worth watching even if one has no interest in hunting at all. Keep up the amazing work. ❤

In my country we talk about how badass Americans are with hunting, fishing, racing, guns, fishing gators, badass cars, the war heroes like white feather, Desmond doss etc... We also crap on them based on their idiotic gender fluid bs, cancel culture, how young people will sell their souls for clout and other dumbfookery. But I've never heard anyone say they doesn't have culture. Imo they've a very diverse culture. Asians, African Americans, Europeans, first world people, etc.. all these people bring their own culture to the country and its pretty cool

I don't know how you could watch one of these and not conclude that Clay is a passionate and world class historian. He's as natural on camera as he is on the audio content and in a deer stand. He helps his guests' personalities shine which is the true mark of a professional interviewer. Well done Clay and team.

Does anyone know if Clay has done an episode(s) with some of the old bulldog hog hunters down south???? The old timers are still at it but in their late 70's and 80's. Using White English Bulldogs, American Bulldogs, Alapaha's and Classic American PitBull Terriers. Southern bulldogs and pit-bulls have been an integral part of southern and Appalachian history - farm life and wild hog hunting. Would love to hear their stories and methods of collaboration on the hunt with their dogs.

This episode really hits home. I grew up in the 80's and early 90's with the most incredibly loving, and tough, plot hound. That was during the time when we used to be able to hunt bears with dogs here in California. Quit was not in her vocabulary, even when my dad's biggest bear threw her against a tree by her head. She acted as though nothing happened, got back in the fight, and went on to live a full life. Trinity Annabelle, Belle for short, will always be missed.

@@matthewmuhlberg9894 People do not understand that proper management keeps the bear population healthier and causes less human and bear conflict. The great majority of hunters believe in conservation and proper land management. They provide funds and smarter management plans. The huge fires in Cali are one example of what happens when land is not properly managed.

This is the best Meateater episode across all the shows. I have fished and backpacked in the backcountry of the Southern Appalachians my entire life. I have come across hundreds of these dogs in NC and TN over the years. So fascinating to learn all this history. Years ago, out on the Art Loeb Trail, I had a pack of these dogs come thru my camp at full-bore in the middle of the night, I'm now certain they were actively on a bear.
