The reason why this channel is like no other is because of the cinematic quality of these videos, starting by the fact that everything is shot close to real time. As well the shots are really well conceived and the editing is really clever. It's like all three elements, camera work, editing and narrative style, align perfectly well with the spiritual experience that is to live in the middle of the forest and surviving on your own resources, hard work and ingenuity. This is why I love to watch this. It's cinematically way superior to any Marvel movie and to many tv series you find in Netflix with a very tiny fraction of the budget.

That would be my only criticism :-D It is already SO well produced, that Shawn is kinda "acting". Like when he got out of the cabin he picks up the hat, cut, new camera angle, he puts on the hat. You know what I mean? Nevertheless it is awesome.

Great response, Lynda... remember when his throw thingee got stuck in a tree? well notice that awesome dog stood there patiently looking up at it time & time again until Shawn noticed. that's respect for his dog you don't see that much anymore. its too bad those kindsa dogs don't live as long as their "owners", huh? some dogs are just... dogs. but others are incredibly special and you NEVER forget them. one time I tripped on a root in my yard and our American Pit immediately noticed I was flat on my back and he came a running over and jumped on me wouldn't let me up! he was checking for blood but I was laughing so hard I could not get up! kept telling him I'm okay! I'm okay! he just loved people.. but hated animals. one time a diamond back got in the yard and that snake knew he was dead meat. not Gator.. the snake. bit his head clean off quick as a mongoose! another time an Indigo got in his territory. He did not touch him but started barking (he was NOT a "barker")... he was calling us to check out the snake. so when I saw it I picked it up (it knew me made no attempt to "escape" and crawled right up on my arm when I leaned down) and moved it but I needed not bother. Gator knew the difference... why?.. he remembered me doing that in front of him while he was watching. he knew... an I was humbled by both of these beautiful animals. Finally our Great Granddaughter used to pet both of them (I showed her how to approach slowly an don't try to pet the snake on its head). Yes another humbling time...

Such a relief to know you're all ok. I have been back over old videos of the cabin build, just because the void needed filling. You make some extremely thought provoking comments, quite invigorating. Thanks, I look forward to your future projects and it's inspired me too in my own way. I don't live in Canada and well London is about as far away from any wilderness as it can possibly get, but I have an escape place to go to when I can take a vacation. I work as a massage therapist for the NHS. I believe stress is the cause of so many ailments which I am confronted with on a daily basis, and then there's my 86 year old parents to see to on weekends. This programme you and your wife (and Cali) are making is such a wonderful release valve, you have no idea what you've started. Happy hewing.

Hi folks. Thanks for the video. You spoke about being outside at this time of year so I wanted to share this with you. I work at 6am. I walk to work every morning which is an hour walk. I leave about 4:30 in the morning. On Feb 14 it was -32 with no wind. There is an overpass that I have to walk over and as I was starting to walk up the pass I looked at a portion of the city and saw that all the lights from the buildings had light pillars shooting straight up into the night sky. I have never witnessed this before. Because there was no wind the frost just hung in the air and caused this effect. It was stunning to say the least. I’ve been walking my whole life as I have never had a drivers license ( I’m 54) and bike in the summer. I agree that this time of year is the best time to be active outdoors. Side note: I think Dick Proenneke would be very proud of you Sir. It some ways you have managed to continue his legacy.
