In 2012 the house across the street was broken into by the bear smashing the front door in. luckily no one was home but a lot of damage was done. The bear was caught and sent North. The home owner put a steel door with a steel door frame in and thought they were safe. Four months later the bear was back smashing in the steel door/door frame doing structural damage to the home. My neighbors were there and had to escape jumping off the balcony with there 10 year old girl ending up in the hospital with a broken leg. He was caught and euthanized weighing 675 lbs. Well wake up folks you are living in their territory you Built Homes and their territory just like the neighbor mericans you just pushing all the natives out because you have the money to live there not fair the vert has just amount as rights as you do. Funny thing is is when a human being breaks into a house over and over again they going to jail they get out and they repeat but they don't euthanize them so why you want to euthanize a bear that was there way before you built your house city slicker just my opinion yes I live in Northern California and I deal with black bears also but I also know I respect them because I'm living in their backyard wake up folks

I’m an outdoor enthusiast, and I encounter wildlife all the time on the trails. I’ve never had a single issue with aggressive wildlife aside from one time. It’s not the Frank the Tanks fault people. And something should be done. Take your city loving asses back the city where it’s safe. If you can’t be responsible enough to pick up your garbage and food scraps, then you aren’t responsible enough to live in the woods. Go somewhere else, where you can have other people wipe your ass for you. I’m so tired of people blaming it on the wildlife. They were perfectly fine before you came along. Rant over.

We used to live in South Lake Tahoe and had bears in our yard from time to time. We adored these majestic animals and always thought it was a privilege when ever we saw one. Not to mention all the other wildlife we saw. Sadly.....Tahoe has changed with many Bay Area / Silicon Valley transplants now buying and building homes displacing residents and wildlife alike. The commercialization of the Lake along with the wildfires is stressing animals natural habitat even more. I hope Hank can be saved and moved to a new location but seeing how the CA Dept of Fish and Games has handled problem bears before I wouldnt get my hopes up.

Hank's family has been there for generations. The home owners are squatting on his land. They should be relocated! 😂 But seriously though, this will continue to happen as their natural habitat keeps shrinking. Hank is probably fed by residents too. When I worked at Yellowstone, I've seen tourists feeding bears despite being told not to. As a wildlife biologist, I can't emphasize this enough, a fed bear is a dead bear. That can be applied to any animal. I wish I could just slap people whenever I catch them feed wildlife. In the end, it's the animals that pay with their lives because of human stupidity.

@@rexmundi5180 No I haven’t. It really does help if you've lived anywhere really remote. Making noise on a hike is important. I have definitely scared off large things, I never saw, luckily. I also generally have a dog/dogs with me, which helps with noise. Most animals don’t want to see you and these are black bears, not grizzlies or cougars, which I’m much more afraid of. I grew up working in forests as well, which carried on in to my career. Part of living in the bear’s forest is being prepared and knowledgable of your surroundings, always. I have a cousin living in Tahoe with her husband who posted a video on social media last summer of huge hungry black bear carrying a package of frozen meat in her garage. It had ripped the padlocked freezer open like it was no challenge before digging around and scattering the contents. She and her husband don't intentionally feed bears, but they both fail to recognize the danger posed by such a powerful animal, especially within the confined space of a residential garage. Perhaps they will have to learn the hard way of the risks they expose themselves to while walking within six feet of them.

Make sure you guys don't carry any types of food in your backpacks or pockets when going for a walk or riding your bikes and avoid eating outdoors by the lake or parks. Bears have a great sense of smell. And that sense of smell gets triggered with some types of foods more than others. Potato chips, honey, and barbecue. Stay safe and hope the bear stays safe and out of trouble. In reality it's not their fault either.
