Excellent informative video Sir. I live in northern Michigan and while I was going to college, I was a Student Worker on the College’s sustainable AG farm. While we didn’t have a problem with bears, we did safeguard the pasture with electrified fencing to deter predation. Your fencing is nearly identical to the system we constructed. Well done Sir!

Tape and plain wire electric fences are NOTORIOUSLY USELESS on thick furry/wooly animals, not to mention chickens. Some might get a shock on their wet nose if/when sniffing the wire, but most just walk straight through them. The best improvements are to use closely spaced *barbed wire* (to penratrate the fur), AND to have a very high current with a short frequency sender with a very good (wet) earth stake. Add some vertical strakes to prevent push-through.

@@onewhitestone Our Canadian bears are brute T-Sherman fearing nothing. Barbed wire plus generous electric pops can discipline them but they are tricky -cumulating experience to find a detour. It is a continuous whack-a-game. I am afraid they might have taught nasty tricks to their New York brethen.

Hi from NH new subscriber. Timely video. We've had hives 5 years of beekeeping; never a bear attack. UNTIL this past week!!!!! Completely destroyed a galvanized dog kennel we had the hives in. Heartbreaking. Put up game cameras; turns out we have at least 3 maybe 4 different bears coming through each night. eek!!!! We have Nigerian Dwarf goats since 05'; never a problem NOW I'm really worried.

I remember a story my dad used to tell me about his grandfather who raised bees. He said when he wanted alone time, he'd go out and sit under a big oak tree that had his hives all around it. He'd tell my Dad that if you stay calm... they'll leave you alone. Bees are ok to me, but I'll knock over my own grandma trying to get away from wasps and yellow jackets. Lol. As a matter of fact, my wife almost had to leave work early, drive an hr home, to rescue me from the gas station after I found a huge red wasp nest in the driver's side door jam that I didnt notice until I tried to get back in the truck. Lmao. Now she said she's going to get me a full bee suit for my birthday. Lmao

@@PermaPasturesFarm21 well the F-350 stayed parked since Feb. There were like 9 or 10 nests on the truck. There were 2 under the hood, 6 in the 8ft bed, 1 in the front driver's side door jam, 1 in the front passenger door jam, 1 in the front drivers side wheel well, and 1 in the back passenger side wheel well. Needless to say... I was in a state of panic. Lol. I tell everyone, that I would rather fight an armed intruder in a hot porta potty in July than mess with wasps, yellow jackets, or hornets. Im the same way with spiders but only if they get on me. I turn into a 10 degree black belt when I walk through a big web. Lmao

Great video! A bear can smell the honey from a long way off. And they are smart and incredibly strong. Worst of all, they have great memories, or should I say fond memories, of all that sweet honey that they ate on your farm last year and that long cozy sugar high nap that they took afterwards. So, once they find you, they will be back! The best thing you can do is NOT to let them smell honey and find you and if they do to make sure that it wasn’t their best experience when they did.
