1600 bears in the smokies, just wondering how did they count them? 7000 in the state, that’s another mysterious question. How do they come up with these figures. My wife and I have visited Gatlinburg for the last 8 years, we usually stay for 4 nights. We have yet to see a wild bear, we have been to Cade’s cove, we hike in the mountains, never yet have we seen one, call it back luck I guess or maybe the numbers are a lot less than we hear.

We're here right now in a cabin in Gburg and our first night here, we had 3, all within 10 minutes apart cut through our driveway! One was walking toward us while we were unloading our car. We've never seen one on any of our trips, but THREE this time. It was crazy how close we were.

Glenda, as America grows where do you want housing to be built? Here are some facts for you to think about! First, man has removed all natural bear predator's from the SouthEast, so the only reduction in the Bear population is HUNTING. Second, the National Park around Gatlinburg is a BEAR sanctuary, so hunting is not allowed and the BEAR population continues to increase. Third, due to no hunting of Bears the bear's fear of man decreases. Fourth, America's economy is based on growth in the population and the economy, so there will be more residential and commercial development to accommodate the population growth. If you are concerned about man encroaching on the Bear's habitat then please stop the 500,000 illegal aliens coming across the southern border of which many are bussed to Tennessee. At the current rate of illegals crossing the border, the forecast is there will be 2 million illegal aliens this year. Welcome to the IMPACT of the Open Borders administration!!!

yo like most of the bears in gatlinburg are actually more afraid of you than you are of it. (I SAID MOST NOT EVER BEAR ON EARTH IS GOING TO BE FREINDLY) And the bears you see in gatlinburg are from the great smoky mountain national park they come into the city on accident one time eat garbage out of the trash can and then they try to live there and eat trash until park rangers find it and relocate it safely back in the park. (Most bears with tags have probably been located before) and a 12 year old just gave you a class on bears your welcome!♡
