The rock w/ a hole by itself won't hold a big bear inside, and a bear will chew thru a rope, so you're right it would need to be steel cable. The trigger mechanism would need to be strong to keep raccoons or wolves from tripping it. Who told you it was a bear trap ?

Hi Friend, love the scenery but i dont think that is a bear trap.....pretty sure its a Dolman and there are thousands of them in Russia.

Dolmen's are religious sites or gathering/meeting places.
