Bone Creek Wilderness Retreat's guardian dogs Odin & Tyr doing their job. This is an almost everyday occurrence during the spring & summer. 1st time we have ever caught it on video These dogs work everyday, they really love taking customers for walks & laying around keeping an eye on everybody.

Looks like the Pyr was more calculated in his technique. Although 2 guardians will work together like they've been practicing a routine. One tries to entice it down while the other waits for the surprise attack. Those dogs have the dream life.

I love seeing dogs working like this... their instincts are so true and consistent. We humans are fortunate to have them; whether they be guard dogs, police and military, sporting (hounds, retrievers, etc.), whatever, it is miraculous how they are like extensions for our living. And as this video demonstrates, they help safeguard even the wild predators... why shoot a perfectly good bear or mountain lion if a team of trustworthy dogs can keep them away?

The one looked like a big fat golden retriever. I love when you tell them they can get the bear and he's running while they're looking up the tree 😅

Fractal Universe the fat looking one is a Great Pyrenees. They have shorter legs, a double layered fur coat, and have poofier/fluffier hair in general so I see why he probably looked fatter than what he actually is.

Without the Akbash I would never count on Pyr. They are generally not brave and tough enough against predators. The Akbash however , especially as a pack is the number 1 most underrated breed when it comes to livestock protection. Certainly not the biggest or the strongest but they are extremely fast and they cooperate excellent with each other in a pack just like wolves. In Turkey , they are kept as live stock protectors on the country side. At certain areas , they are frequently confronted by bears , wolves and jackals. Next to the Kangal and some Anatolian shepperd dogs one of the rare breeds who don’t fear wild predators. Definately not for the city or in a crowd as they are generally human agressive. They don’t like trespassers and don’t hesitate to bite.

I was happy to see the bear finally make the run, he wasn't going anywhere with the dogs at the bottom of the tree. The Pyr and Akbash were doing a great job and I understand that the bear needed to know he was not welcome back, but the Akbash needed to give him some space. Really funny that although the bear had made his escape the dogs were still looking up at the tree, then they thought "there he goes" and were hot on his heels, hopefully it all went well....I live in Canada and have had Pyrs but thankfully my dogs never came face to face with a bear, close but not too close.

Once a bear has been confined to a tree , you are supposed to shoot it . That bear got away safely and now knows it can anytime enter in your property and leave unharmed. There are high chances of it happening and if it happens , you along with your family and pets would be in great danger .

Yeah it seems he is more of a house dog. I've had a few Pyrs n now I have a Pyr/Akbash n he is nonstop around the clock guarding my home. He doesn't play much he is still a pup but would rather be posted outside n watch for intruders n walk around the perimeter. My Pyr likes to be inside n play. She will bark when my other dogs do cause the pack mentality u know. But 90% of the time she acts like any other pup who chews on everything she sees n plays fetch. Hopefully she will take lessons from my Akbash soon cause he has been showing his guarding instincts since he was 4 months old.

@mariajordan3020

The dogs are doing all right, but the guy has no clue neither about the bears nor about handling the dogs! The bear had no bad intentions, just wandering around and checking...when he runs from the dogs( which is a normal behavior of the bear in the case of dealing with two guardian dogs) the dogs should be called back to allow the bear to take off, not to keep him on that tree! The bears roaming around houses are normally not aggressive because they don;t perceive our properties as theirs! And beside sthey learn very quickly where there is unsefe area, like with these dogs around!
@rrogue99

My dogs do an amazing job & & so does my husband !!!! Both the dogs have recall as you can see from the video !!!! The boys hazed that bear for 2 hours after the video was taken & no it did not come back. We do not let them on a sow with cubs ever. You obviously have no idea where we live or what our predator load is & this is not some house in a suburb we have no neighbors for 20kms & it is a resort where people are walking around with their children so NO we do not tolerate bears in the yard. We do not keep garbage here it is taken away daily & that bear would have never got in the yard except there was a thunder storm the night before & they were in the house. Yes you are right once the bears have been hazed they avoid the area after 1o years of being here we only get the odd interloper now. The Akbash was just a young dog there he was not 2 yet & the Pry Cross was just 3 . I see by your FB profile you do not have one of these dogs as your partner so really your opinion means nothing to me Odin is now just about 11 & Tyr is just about 9 both are still working
@rrogue99
@rrogue99 6 жыл бұрын
You have no idea where we live or what the dogs do daily we also have tourists that we have to look after & free range hens so there must be NO bears checking things out. The dogs are doing the right thing by hazing the bear he will avoid this place next time
@that.schamp
@that.schamp 6 жыл бұрын
If the predator is not pursued, it will learn that it can show up and just leave if the dogs show up. Once that lesson is learned, the predator will return to check for opportunities, and will eventually learn to not fear the dogs. At that point, your livestock, your dogs, and your family are in danger, and you will have to kill the predator.
@jelopata

These dogs don't recall when working. They're bread to work without human instruction. These dogs know what they're doing and and have been doing it for thousands of years without instruction. You could tell this guy knew they weren't going to listen to him unless they wanted to and they were ready.
