I use Lumber Yard utility balm from the white line of Beardbrand. I love it. It really does smell exactly like freshly cut wood. I not only use it in my beard, I spread it on my face and sometimes my arms because it makes my skin feel great.

I have the old money utility balm. The scent is amazing but I don’t think it lasts very long. I had the styling balm but didn’t like the feel in beard, I thought it was good for my hair though

I've still gotta try Temple Smoke sometime. I have had Four Vices oil, balm, and styling balm for 5 months, and it has become my 3rd favorite scent in the beard game. Utility balm and oil are great, however I don't care for the styling balm much. It does its job, but I don't care for its sticky texture and the bizarre additional smell it has to it. Beardbrand only gets hate because they are super successful. That's it. Their ingredients are quality and your beard will feel great after using.

I personally think people dislike Beardbrand because of their steep prices and the fact that they never discount their products even if to just say thank you to their loyal customers once a year. And if you don't like that, then they aren't the company for you (Eric B.'s words). So they come across as rather snooty. You don't really see other large Beard care companies get the same level of dislike from the masses.

Great video Matt. I ordered beardbrand samples a while back and they sent a lil sample of the temple smoke styling balm with it for free. I absolutely love this sent. To me it is by far the best oud scent on the market. I've also been trying to baby it but I really need to order more. I might just get the balm this time. Thanks for the review dan. I have tried the plain slate utility balm. Love it! I use it on beard, hair, tats, as an aftershave. I find the hold is amazing. And for $15 for 3 oz you cant beat it. My only complaint is it does tend to clump in the hand when working it in. Other than that it is an amazi g product. Ordered the gold line sampler oils from them. Will probably spend some extra on better scented balm.

Great review my friend! I have been wondering about the styling balm for awhile now. FWIW, I have also always wondered why people are so frustrated with BB prices, considering they offer a 3.4 ounce for the price. Personally, I don't use BB because I like so many other brands' scents better, but I don't think people are stupid for paying that much.

Nice review. Beard brand lumber yard utility balm was the first product I ever bought for my beard. Got it middle of last year. Really love it. I actually still have and I use it everyday. My beard is short and a little really goes a long way with this product. I do not use any oils. Just the utility balm. Can’t wait to try other scents from them when this finishes.

Hi Matt, thanks for this video. I’m a recent collector of beard products and have just got Temple Smoke in Softener, Oil, and Utility Balm. I’ve noticed that the ingredients in the Utility Balm are very similar to many butters that I own however I do not necessarily feel the Utility Balm is as softening. Generally speaking, I tend to prefer butters without any beeswax as the Utility Balm does contain. I’m curious... in watching your most recent top 6 butters video (day/night), how come you didn’t include the Temple Smoke Utility Balm being in this video as you mention it’s your favorite one stop shop? Also do you find the Utility Balm to be softening just as others like Live Bearded or Beard Octane can be?

Thanks for watching! I didn’t include the Utility Balm since I wanted to just include products labeled as Butter. You are correct the Utility Balm is similar to a butter with a small bit of hold. I do find it conditions very well.

Temple Smoke is my favorite from Beardbrand. I absolutely love this smell. Their products are on the higher end price wise but the price for the balm isn't THAT bad. It's obviously higher than the market average but when you consider how much you are getting it's justifiable. How long does the temple smoke scent last in their balm?

I got a sample of the temple smoke styling balm. It was actually awesome. Smells amazing and hold really well. The mustache wax is all but useless, but the sample worked on me haha. Looks like I am going to get some styling balm haha. Will probably get the old money scent, which is the scent of the mustache wax I bought, and it is AMAZING smelling.

For a beard butter with a slight hold I would recommend the following in no particular order: 1. Detroit Grooming beard butter 2. Beardbrand Utility Balm 3. Live Bearded beard butter Keep in mind if you want more hold I would go with a balm.

Issue I have with the White Line is that it's only in Tea Tree Oil. And I hate tea tree oil. I don't really want to go around smelling like turpentine.

The oil will give you the purest scent of Temple Smoke. I’ve only used a sample of the Temple Smoke oil before they reformulated it to be stronger. They do smell very similar, I actually prefer the scent on the Utility Balm. The Styling Balm has a similar Temple Smoke scent but the ingredients smell slightly different. I liked the oil a lot, but at $40 for 1 oz, I find that the Utility Balm offers a great value at $37 for 3.4 oz.

Yes, I have used their sea salt spray and really like it. It’s meant to give your head hair more texture but can be used on the beard as well. I find that when I use it in my beard it gives me more control and texture in the way I want to style my beard. I don’t use it everyday for fear I don’t want to dry my beard out from the salt. Every now and then is fine though.

Just got home and found that I have received my Aurora beard oil in both the scents and let me tell you they are amazing (in case you were wondering lol) the scents are amazing and they are the thickest oil I have gotten and I have all artius man oils. With this you hardly need to use a balm. For us office guys that's great. Also the customer service is top notice received it 3 days before expected. If you haven't I would check them out!

People like to hate on Beardbrand, but man, Temple Smoke and Old Money are truly two of the best scents in the game. So complex, so rich, and so long-lasting. I've tried Holy Grail and Liquid Gold (and really like both), but my girlfriend said Temple Smoke was her favorite of the three. I also really enjoy the utility balm! I think it does great with moisturizing skin AND conditioning the hair. I have no complaints! Great review!

I'll jump in and say, yes, the styling balm has a firm hold. That being said, it does feel a little sticky in beard IMO and the scents have a noticeable chemical smell. If you are unsure maybe reach out and see if they will send you a sample. I would hate for someone to pay up to $37 for a balm they don't like.

Two totally different consistencies. Mane Man has more of a traditional balm feel with a strong hold. Beardbrand is like a sticky cream but has hold.

Assume you are referring to Bossmans beard jelly? Very different products. I could see comparing the jelly and utility balm. The Beardbrand products are going to offer more hold. Not an apples to apples comparison though. Both companies make great products.

I haven’t tried the newer bossman balm, but I understand that it’s more of a conditioning balm now. If that’s the case it would be similar to the Beardbrand Utility Balm.

Great review on a respectable line of products. I discovered the Blank Slate line at my local Target over a year ago. I’ve been using both the oil and Utility Balm since then and really like them both. I highly recommend them to anyone who has sensitive skin like myself.
