My daughters and I are babysitting a newly 1 year old beardie until spring for friends. We’re trying to figure out how to help him get into his brumation habitat. All he had was the reptile felt for ground! About to watch your habitat video to learn how to create a better space for him. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!

My girl loves her hide, she either sleeps like a dead chicken, or does that cat nap where the head is up but eyes are closed, or she digs...and digs...and digs...i tell her keep digging she will get to Australia eventually

I love this, I have started to understand these little behaviors understanding is so much more impressive then a pretty enclosure or having the biggest collection or having the most unique animals. These type of understanding is what will help us learn how to tell if they are sick or not.

Omg thank u so much for saying ur baby does that while in brumation my baby has never shot forward at me and I sometimes will let them lay on me during times I see them moving around if it's cold and or if they got up for water since I peek in on them daily I spooked the hell outta my big mack and he did that flatten out huffed so hard he shot back a bit and even gave me a jump scare Bec he's absolutely never lunged in any manner towards or away from me so it startled me I felt so so terrible and went looking online and poof found ur video !!! I've honestly been getting more into tarantulas and other tiny creatures that don't require the space that beardies do in my opinion and that is part of why I haven't gotten to keep up on ur vids that and we'll all my baby's are Asleep so it kills me watching beardie content lol when I can't just play with my baby's all of my baby's get free roam time and they like ur bud put them selves back more times than not which is hilarious to me and I know logically that most of the time its out of necessity but I think they do that in the wild as well to a degree they have there safe spaces where they go to warm up sleep or whatever it may be and each one of my babys if they go to sleep while there out each have their own specific places I go to look for them when I don't hear them roaming around lol and it is more times than not Bec they found one of there cozy spots to go chill in depending on the season sometimes next to the base board to cool off or under the headboard of the water bed lol to hilarious the diff little personality traits they each have and how diff they are also the things they have in common I just love them to death so glad I caught this video

Thanks for the vid Liam. My girl has started this on her own. I watched your full guide over a month ago. But adopting a 10 year old girl beaerdy and being new. I still wasn't quite comfy trying to induce it However everything you said in this vid is EXACTLY what's she's been doing for the past month lol. Which I had a feeling that was what she was doing. But wasn't quite sure. Thanks again for all your help!

What about bowel habits during brumation? How often would they typically go? How do you tell the difference between signs of impaction/constipation or beginning brumation?
@kellyr87305 ай бұрын
Our beardie is maybe 6 months old & it seems like it's starting to go into brumation now, but it's almost summer. Are we doing something wrong? Depending on the cold/hot side, the tank is from the low 70's to high 80's in temp, the humidity is typically 30-40% (sometimes 5% low or high - it really seems to fluctuate), & the basking area surface temp is usually 100-105. Any thoughts?

Mine just started brumation 3 days ago. is it a good idea 2 mix organic potting soil with crushed Walnut mix for bedding? I have some small 2 x 4 that I cut up in chunks and put red clay crushed Walnut with a slate Rock on top and under the slate Rock is the potting soil mix to give her some bedding with lighting on for about 6 hours this is my first time guiding her to brumation last year she ran up underneath my house and did it on her own and came back out next year trying to make sure her temperature is right and make sure she's comfortable she literally came begging back to me coming out last year

Hey! Wondering if you can answer a question for me. Im in Canada, and my beardie is 18 weeks old now. She has been in her house for 2 weeks, and hasnt come out for food or water. She seems to be awake for most of the day, but just dont come out. Is this a typical part of brumation? Right now her UVB light and basking light are on from 8am to 8pm. I also have a heat emitter on. Should I turn off the heat emitter, and shorten the time that her basking and uvb lights are on? Im nervous that im doing something wrong!

is this also relevant for bearded dragons that lived in tropical countries? bcs my bearded dragon is 5y.o now, and since july until now his appetite is decreasing, and he also started to often do actions like digging but only with one of the front hand (we didnt use substrate, so there's nothing to dig), but his weight stays the same. bcs we didn't know what to do (vet said nothing wrong), we never change his schedule, which is sunbathe every morning, free roam under the sun for a while, when he starts searching for hiding places, we put him back to the enclosure.. am i doing something wrong? I'm so confused

A quick question if I may. I have a very happy healthy dragon round about 8 months old. As you know the uk is really wet and miserable at the moment and he’s started showing signs of brumation. Is he too young ??

My female woke up 4 weeks ago and has stopped eating salads, glass surfs all the time, and goes to bed early. Is that normal from hormones or could it be an illness or eggs? She eats bugs just fine and temps seem correct.

may be important to note that (i believe) Beardies only start wanting to brumate either at the 1 year mark, or when they get to "adulthood".

@justinbernardo5414 We just bought our first beardie from a breeder that is a family friend and it's been showing signs of brumation since we've brought it home. At first it just seemed shy. It's around 11 months old and we assumed it just needed to get used to us after being with its original family. Now it's sleeping a LOT, eating less (except for worms) and pooping less. It stays away from the heat lamp, goes underneath whatever it can and takes a super long nap. It will open it's eyes if we get too loud in the house/walk close to it's enclosure but it just stays still. It's skin is also turning darker and tail is more black than it was before. It was eating a lot just before this even though it didn't have quite as much energy as other beardies I've seen. It definitely has it's moments and was running around and catching worms yesterday before it's super long nap. Does this sound like brumation?

My sons bearded dragon has not been eating at all and I don't know if he maybe going into brumation or he is sick and dying. My son & I 1st time owners and we had him at the vet couple weeks ago cause his eyes been looking like something going on. The vet said he is healthy and looked like shed and sand and causing his eyes to water so vet soaked him and cleaned out eyes and said it may keep doing it until the sand or allergy goes away. He was basking and eating last week but this week he been under his basking areas and not stayed hidden in shaded parts. He hasn't eaten for the last 5 days. We don't know if he brumating or dehydrated or sick can anyone give me some advice about what is happening ? TIA
