The F96 error code on these GE ovens means one of you cooling fan speeds cannot be found. These fans have hall sensors on them that detect the fan speed and tell the board what it is. This is a safety feature otherwise if may cause other parts to go out. This shows you some things to look for when diagnosing the problem along with replacing the cooling fan. This video is 3 years old, want to just say... BEYOND HELPFUL! Clear and Concise. A+ with the editing in of some of the "ahead" steps you did that could have waited, amazing instructions. Wife and completed this repair yesterday, and, had I not had OCD with cleaning everything, probably would've taken us less amount of time than this video that we watched no less than 3 times ahead of the repair. THANK YOU. Tip for everyone? Leave extra time to CLEAN!!!!! the inside of ours was SUPER DUSTY, and, there is a piece he doesn't take off in the repair - where the vent comes up or down to the front right of the part that is being replaced that was gunked up with nasty grease. We spent a bunch of time cleaning this up. Be prepared with some heavy duty grease cleaner! THANK YOU AGAIN DUDE AWESOME VIDEO EASY TO UNDERSTAND 100% SPOT ON!

Ge made after 2015 is made by China. They are garbage and should be avoided along with LG, Samsung

Phenomenal. I made a DIY oven dolly by using a furniture dolly, an RV scissor/jack stabilizer, 2x4s and plywood. Actual Oven dolly would have made the job much easier but there is no place near me to rent them. Despite this, the repair worked and saved weeks to waiting for GE service technician to come diagnose and then wait for ordered part and 2 visits. Thanks for the detailed video. My wife and I were able to replace the blower fan in about two hours … and most of that time was removing the oven from the wall and removing panels. We don’t always work well together on projects like this but it turned out to be a ZERO argument project. It felt good to do it ourselves and save a little money. If you’re on the fence about doing it yourself give it a go. It’s pretty straightforward with this step by step video.

I had good luck using a motorcycle jack for my dolly. Also, removing the doors made things much lighter and less stressful. It’s amazing how heavy those doors are.

Just picked up one of these ovens today for free because it had this error code lol. Pretty pumped about this one, such a simple fix. I may sell it, or install it in my kitchen, haven't decided yet, but we're renoing the kitchen later this year.

Thank you ... this was helpful. I ended up taking my fan apart to see why it was binding. There are cover plates on the bearing that are not properly crimped on. The bearing are packed with an oil soaked fibre and soring in order to lubricate the bushing. Once the cover pops off, the spring pushes the cover against the motor and causes it to drag. Cleaning/lubricating alone won't fix it. In my case, I was able to repack the bearing and crimp on the covers, but I would not recommend this for the typical DIYer.

I have the same problem and am currently waiting for the part. This is another example of how products are not designed with ease of repair in mind. This could have been avoided if the ovens had been designed instead with a front accessible fan tray at the top. This is common in broadcast video equipment (my industry). Otherwise, we like oven but jeez what a hassle on this one.

My comment is had the same problem with my oven instead of taking out and replacing the fans just used a wooden ruler on the lower oven and push the motor on the fan a little bit and it freed it up and it's working just fine

I have this same code but when i look through the vents i can see both the top and bottom fan spinning. do you think it could be the fan sensor and not the fans themselves?

I was able to figure out how to remove the lower fan (F97). The problem was the small pin connector had come loose not a fan failure.

I have a question, I got the same F96 fail code, my oven is single, I first replaced the fan and still got the code so I replaced the sensor, tried it again, the fan works fine you can feel the air flow buy yet I still get the F96 code!!! what else could it be? Our oven has the F97 error. I was able to rig it so that the oven works if I first turn on the cleaner for like 10 seconds and then try to use the oven. But obviously that is a pain (and I want to make sure that I am not potentially causing an issue by doing this). I took a flashlight and can see the bottom fan spinning really fast trying to cool the oven down after use. If it's running, then what do you think the issue might be?

Are the fans working? You can seem them through the front. The bottom one is harder to see but you can still get an eye on it working. If they are working I would look into the Hall sensor on the fan itself. They do not come with the new fan you put in.
