Finally, an honest comparison. If I want to read comics in colour on a small device, the iPad Mini is a much better option. For straight forward reading of books, the Kindle Paperwhite is good. Overall, the iPad Mini is a more tempting option.

important difference. The kindle are all front-lit, that’s why at night you can read better with the light on, than on an iPad flashing the light at your face. kindle: front-lit ipad/phones: back-lit

Love the comparison! I personally tested both and decided to go with the iPad mini + matte screen protector. I ordered the Paperlike and KCT 2 screen protectors. KCT 2 looks very similar and is significantly cheaper. I use my iPad mini with the KCT 2 screen protector, and it feels and looks great, especially with Apple Notes.

Thanks! And I've never tried the Paperlike screen protector...but I keep hearing people mention it! May need to get one soon...

Love how text looks on the Kindle, and it’s great to have a dedicated device to avoid distractions in bed. However, looking at them side by side, a used iPad mini is a no-brainer for comic books

Distraction-free is definitely a feature. I thinking of returning this and going with a cheaper paper white.

For me the battery life is what I want a Kindle for. It's smaller than my iPad Air M1 and it's lighter. My inner tech nerd says I should have the iPad mini, but the limitation of distractions and battery life is what I find most appealing.
@vedder107 күн бұрын
I love reading comic books on the iPad. I just use the "Do Not Disturb" feature to block out all of the distractions. Plus with seamless integration with my other devices I just couldn't justify the Kindle even though I love the form factor.
@jaytc32188 күн бұрын
There is an undeniable appeal that the Kindle's e-ink display has over the iPad when reading standard books. I have both (standard KPW). But the Colorsoft just isn't ready yet. These things should have never made it past QA. Anyhow, for reading books, I like my Kindle. For anything with pictures (graphic novels, nonfiction books, etc.), the iPad Mini does the job.

Ereaders have a more natural feel for reading and limits distractions with limited other access, no notifications, and ease on eyes. Easy access to books with a stupid amount of battery life. The colored versions are a nice upgrade. Feels like an old comic book or a newspaper. As a collector of comics, I like it. Again, it’s a bit old school looking. Wanna know what a kindle doesn’t have? True web browsers, games, true connectivity, apps, pokemon go, all the notifications, eye strain, battery fear…. You can read and read and get lost in a book. I have so many devices for everything and each is good at certain things. Kindle/kobo/ereaders can’t be beat for reading…even by real books. iPad is good for streaming and comics are ok too because they are short form. Kobo Libra color is great and a kindle for unlimited kindle program.

I have an older iPad with just as good technology as nano texture: it's called a matte screen protector. Has a nice paper like texture when using Pencil, as well as reducing glare. Plus you don't have to buy a new iPad just for that feature. I prefer reading books on a Kindle, but do refer to art and cookbooks on my iPad (with Kindle app).

What may work is sticking a papeprlike plastic screen protector on the mini. Should make it a bit more matte and diffuse reflections.

My Mini 6 with the Apple case loses approximately 5% / day if I don’t use it at all. (It’s turned off by closing the case.) I don’t power it off. Either I didn’t understand your battery-drain comment or you might have a battery-drain issue on the Mini 7? 🤔

For nanotexture, try the Mothca matte glass screen protector. It uses the same chemical etching process that Apple uses.

I think this It’s like comparing a regular kindle against a refurbished older ipad mini (which you can get for around $100 in amazon). That ipad mini would be able to do a lot lot lot more than any kindle. I think if you want a device to read without distractions, then a ereader/kindle is the way to go. If you want to be able to do more stuff then get a refurbished iPad Mini.

This is just a unfair comparison because you can get any tablet that's not e-ink and it would be better. E-paper devices a lot better to read on. No eye problems.

I was using a galaxy tab s6 lite for a year before deciding to get a dedicated eink device for note taking and reading (boox note air 2 plus). I found that I could not read comfortably outside or at night with the samsung tab, it doesnt have an oled screen sadly so blacks arent truly black and it never got dim enough for long reading sessions. I also never got into reading on my phone which does have amoled. I always end up on tiktok or reddit anyway. Now I added a small boox go color 7 and totally in love. Boox is android based so I can use all the reading apps I want, but I dont feel tempted to use any social media as scrolling doesn't feel good. Win win.

Do you have WiFi disabled on your iPad because we have several in our household that perform the same. Maybe not dead after 24 hrs but definitely after a couple of days of standby.

Wait….what iPad Mini? I just charge the A17 once a day. And if I forget to charge it before I go to bed, I still have at least 35 to 40%. So I’m not sure why your standby time is so bad. The glare on the Mini can be cut down with a matte, paper like or non-glare glass screen protector. I am a heavy consumer - Kindle Fire (Kindle, Libby, Hoopla, NetGalley and Libro .fm). iPad mini A17 and iPad Pro M2, 11 inches. (And more.) I use a Typecase keyboard with my Pro and am maintaining a blog, especially since I type for a few hours each day. The Colorsoft, however, even before the bad reviews and Amazon pulling it from shipping, never entered my purview because I do too much reading consumption when it comes to book reviewing and library series books and this is where the Kindle Fire (matte screen protector) is far superior (only compared to Colorsoft, since so, many channels are focused on it right now.)

I had a kindle paperwhite, loved the battery, but it was difficult to get the books I wanted sometimes and I just really hate dealing with the kindle store. I have an iPad mini now with a matte screen protector. No problems reading outside with it or anything, I can get ebooks from anywhere and open them easily. And I use it as a notebook for everything also. I had battery drain issues with mine when I first got it and I had to pour through all the settings to get it straightened out. I forget what the issue was though sorry 😅

Why bother to buy a Kindle Colorsoft? iPad Mini 7 is much better. More storage and can do far more. Color is more vibrant.
@slothrob4 күн бұрын
Neither are very good for comics, since the screens are too small to read much of the text. I end up constantly having to zoom in to see details of read. A 10" tablet is the minimum I find comfortable for comics and something that isn't widescreen fits comic pages better, especially for 2-page speads, and is move comfortable to hold vertically. So, iPads generally work better than Android tablets (though there is a Lenovo that has a decent aspect ratio).
@Mutio86Күн бұрын
So you‘d say two devices are better? I mostly want to watch videos, read a light novel sometimes and sometimes a comic too (main focus would be manga though). Not sure if an iPad Pro plus Kindle would be the better choice or an iPad Mini for both. But then I am a bit worried, that a mini might be too small when watching Videos.
@slothrobКүн бұрын
@Mutio86 2 devices is the better choice for me, but I read at least 2 or 3 hours a day and read western comics. There was a time when I travelled with just an 8" tablet and it worked fine, but I was busy and only read about an hour a day - comics and video were a bit too small, though. It might have been large enough if my eyesight was better, and it certainly sufficed. In your case, seeing as you are a light reader, an 8" tablet might be sufficient, but a 10"+ tablet might be more satisfying - a little larger than you need for manga (and it will probably get heavy after a while), but video will be nice.
