I have my interview today with the Chaplain. I'm nervous about it, but very confident. I am trying to get my RA for Norse Pagan. I'll let you know how it goes after the outcome.

I had a good experience when i went for my RA. i will saw that the higher you go to get the memo, the easier it will be to keep it after you PCS. Mine is from the 2 star general in the Pentagon so I'll never have to worry.

@Charlie Keiner Nice, I meet a fellow Norsemen in Kuwait. It took me about four months to get the RA. I never realized how long 2 inches from the chin is. I've never had a beard that long.

Important question how does trimming work I’m not sure if I can cut my neck beard and it be considered shaping? I’ve looked at AR 670-1 and can find anything where it says we can’t shape our beard.

For the sick call thing not as easy as you think, the pa has to determine if you have a severe case of acne, eczema or pfb to even consider the possibility to give you a temporary profile further more you’ll have to come back every 2 weeks to get an evaluation and temporary profile updated for at least 6 months then finally pa will decide if you are a good candidate for permanent, also provider can decide up to what length you can have the beard which sometimes is longer than 1/8” -68W

Sikh man u know tie beard also. Even when they have long one. I am a sikh myself. Many of my relatives have long beards but they tie the beard with oil and then beards sticks to skin with help of oil. I am very young and also haven't tried it yet.

@@andrewmercado4060 Have to talk to a chaplain and make a case to him basically. Then he will interview you on you beliefs and give you a memo. The memo is a recommendation to the commander then its up to the commander

No, however keep multiple copies of your memo even on PDF form because people like to “lose” paperwork

No! If that becomes an issue then you have a huge EO complaint they can’t treat you unfairly for any reason as long as you have proper paperwork and groom yourself nicely. At 1st my unit gave me a rough time but now that they’ve realized I’m still a good soldier and can perform all my takes effectively they’ve backed off and see me as a human again. Command also has a lot to do with this National Guard side here we changed our NCOIE which is an Acting 1st SGT that helped a LOT! But don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself respectfully if they try to push you around. Hope this helps!

Hopefully they won’t care so long as I have paper work. Go through your chain of command and ask to see the chaplain then explain your needs and ask about an accommodation He/She should take it from there and help you it’s their job. It takes some time so be patient but respectfully ask each week how the progress is coming along

@@thatphelan2473 Took about 3 months.I was still in HS at the time.Make sure you are detailed as possible with your memo and as to what accomodations you need and make sure it is signed by a General Officer.

Lol I’m in favor of supporting my religion and for others supporting they’re beliefs, I’m in favor of diversity in our Army and know from fact that diversity strengthens us. I also stand for the constitution which has the 1st amendment including freedom of religion. Also do you know something? The United States military is the only military that doesn’t allow facial hair or has an issue allowing it. If it wasn’t for a Sikh Indian fighting for his 1st amendment right we wouldn’t have any change in the Army. That’s what I’m in favor of... hippie...
