Not only meeting for the first time, talking over the internet too. You know, instead of sneaking to meet at "our tree or by the lake" :) That is, romance is over. You find it in old books and movies now.

I wouldn't say romance is over, I'd say it has evolved. hometown romances still exist, but now you can also connect & fall in love with someone on the other side of the planet before you ever meet them in person. I think there is something equally beautiful about that notion.

The whole album is the story of Betty (Rebekah) James and the other girl he cheated on with. Cardigan is from Betty's perspective. August is from the perspective of the other girl and Betty is from James's perspective. And the rest of the songs are also inspired from them. Tracklist- The one- Betty looking back in life and thinking of James. Cardigan - also Betty's POV. Looking back after 20 years or so. The last great American dynasty - Betty (Rebekah harkness) leaves town and moves to Rhode Island and marries bill. Their mansion is now owned by Taylor. Exile- the back and forth between James and Betty. It's their conversation. My tears ricochet - this is after James dies. It's his funeral. Mirrorball- this is about the other girl and James. Also could be about when Betty meets bill. Seven- when Betty and James were kids. Now she's looking back. August- POV of the other girl. This is me trying- this is James singing to Betty. Trying to make up for everything. Illicite affairs - James and the other girl. This is about their affair. Invisible string - inspired by Taylor and Joe. Mad woman - about Rebekah (Betty) as they used to call her the maddest woman. But also inspired by Taylor herself. For the people who have wronged her. Epiphany - James joins the army and later on dies. Betty on the other hand is going through her own shit in life. Betty - pretty obvious this is James's POV. Peace- this is Betty and her husband or probably James (I'm a little confused) but yes also inspired by Taylor and Joe themselves. Hoax- this is Betty dealing with James's death. So there it is. I mean the album is much deeper than this but I've put it in the simplest of the words here. No one is gonna read it but if you do then I hope it helps. I disagree about the whole album being about the trilogy lol for example, my tear richochet is about big machine and the whole master thing, mad woman is about scooter. peace is about telling her loved ones that they'll never be peace due to her life. etc but i guess it could be interpreted differently, just that taylor herself mentioned there's only a trilogy for the love triangle story, not the whole album.

Even mirrorball is about fame and all the shortcomings of it and epiphany is about current situation and also inspired by her grandfather I guess. But she's such an amazing songwriter that this all can be interpreted in so many ways.

One of the beautiful things about this album is that people can interpret it how they want and apply it to their own lives...n relate to it that way. I believe she actually mentioned something about it being open to interpretation...it's a masterpiece to me. The best thing she has ever done by far. Love your guys interpretations of the songs!! That’s such a cool perspective about the greatest love line. I thought that it meant more about the most famous loves or like the greatest loves in movies and things like that. And the fact that they’re over because of the fact that they were so publicized

I think you're both right and different perspectives you just get right backup and then saying yes to a lot of things instead of knowing it's based on her co- dependency issues and her bad amount issues even though she has family and friends she still have Episodes of depression and isolation and just people breaking boundaries and not leaving her alone they could traumatize somebody and it's like a It love letter to someone letting her know that she's doing OK
