I really interested in watching how you rivet that skin in place. I'm having a tough time imagining being able to do it. The only wings I've ever worked on, were fabric covered, and easy to do compared to this.

I'll try to remember to record that. If you've ever seen an RV builder rivet skins, it's pretty much the same thing. One person is on the outside with the rivet gun, and another holds the bucking bar on the inside.

Out of curiosity, what did you end up doing with your rotisserie set up when you were done with it? I’m looking to build or buy something like that.

I'm keeping it for my next one. I am building a Sling TSi.

Liked your description of the stalls, question, which stalls slower Riblett or standard Cub wings?
@TheBaldPilot
@TheBaldPilot 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure which is slower, but the Riblett has a forward loading moment with no leading edge separation compared to a NACA wing which is mid loaded leaving the leading edge susceptible to airflow separation. I don't recall Riblett discussing if his modification results in slower stall speeds.

A Very neat rotisserie, did you build and weld it yourself? I like the u-joints that's cool.

Thanks! Yes it's the same rotisserie I used for the fuselage. Here's the video I did on that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3yxlqStrraBh9E

the LSA structural failure a couple of months ago scares me to buy one of these
@TheBaldPilot
@TheBaldPilot 2 жыл бұрын
I understand. I think it is important to understand that the LSA that (allegedly) failed structurally was scratch built. We do not know how the builder assembled and welded that fuselage together. I know that the Bearhawk fuselage that I purchased from the factory was gas welded and superbly assembled. Some scratch builders are not as proficient with gas welding and will instead electric weld their components together. OA welding (gas) is superior to MIG or TIG.

Think that friction lock bolt at 1:03 is big and strong enough? LOL, Grade 8 bolts are already expensive, don't need to get one 4" longer than necessary to do the job! :D
@TheBaldPilot
@TheBaldPilot 3 жыл бұрын
Oh that came out of a bucket of bolts I had laying around. Don't think I went out and bought that bolt specifically for that application. In fact, some of that rotisserie was cobbled together from scrap.
@RussellTelker
@RussellTelker 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBaldPilot I pretty much figured that, just giving you a hard time. But now that I think about it, my bolt buckets probably have some short lil 3/8" bolts that would work fine... a good mechanic should always have several buckets of "leftovers" in the corner. :D

How does one buck the skin rivets with such on small hole on the rear of the wing?
@TheBaldPilot
@TheBaldPilot 4 жыл бұрын
It will take two people. We will work each row of rivets span- wise, rolling the skins down, as we go.
