Thanks for the honest review! I am eagerly waiting for my Bearpaw Penthalon Blackfoot longbow to arrive next week! This is going to be my first traditional bow. Once again, thanks and stay safe :)

How do you like it?
@brothertrithemius61732 жыл бұрын
@@jake4194 I like mine so much! It was lighter than I had imagined. I currently owned Penthalon Omaha (got this new one 3 months ago as I increased my poundage), a bit heavy but feel more "premium" compared to the Blackfoot. Have been shooting every Sunday ever since :D

Your face says it all. Thats what makes a good bow, it puts a smile on your face, and confidence in your shot. You have summed it up perfectly, there is no better longbow out there for the price.

Their bows are awesome. I’m competing in 3d with their slick stick longbow that I just got last week. Shot a 900 field tournament two days after receiving it last weekend. 65 yards was no problem at all with 6.49gpi arrows and my high anchor point. I might order in one of these too. Godspeed 💪🏼

I just ordered one for a tournament in August in Austria. Looking forward to practice. Thank you for your video.

Their bows are great. I just started competing with the slick stick in 3d. I’m killing it! They’re so accurate and yet so lite. I love them. Think I’ll order this next

I just bought this bow last week, and I use carbon arrow 600 spine. The bow is great! Amazing bow for that amount of money.

Yes it is. One of the, if not the best Longbow on the market for that price.

This bow is on my wery short list for my next bow purchase. I am wailing between this one and Bearpaws "Horsebow" for about the same price.

It's an outstanding longbow, you'll not regret it. Also check out my review video, that I just uploaded, if you want to see it in action!

The top end of the longbow pull weight was around 180 lbs. It was the law that every English boy from very young had to practice every week or more. By the time they had grown up their skeleton was deformed. They can tell an English bowman by his skeletal remains. Imagine holding a man up by a narrow cord weighing say 160 lbs with 2 fingers. The link below talks about an arrow that has gone through a 4 inch oak door to a church. There are very few men alive now that can pull a top end English longbow. www.shotwick.org.uk/church.html

Thanks for the insight! I shot a 90# English longbow once, its a real challenge, but its possible, with the right technique and a lot of training.

Hello LongbowArchery, thanks for the reply. I have since read that 200 lbs was the top end. They found skeletons on the Mary Rose that had different sized bones and muscle attachments. As a bye the way - there had also been a human skin nailed to the church door. The nails could still be seen. Poor devil probably had flatulence in church.

I've watched a lot of your videos today because I'm waiting for my Bearpaw Blackfoot 40lbs coming tomorrow. I'm only going to shoot wooden arrows from it like I do with my trad/ recurve bows.. keep all my carbon arrows for my compound bows. I did have a longbow about 15 years ago ( it snapped after 3 month's of just shooting it on the weekend and it was a very well-known custom bow costing over 300 quid ) they had four other customers who's bows snapped in the same place as mine did they did offer me another bow in exchange but I said no I want my money back I'm going elsewhere. If it wasn't for a friend of mine reading about it on a forum they probably would have tried to say it was my own fault due to neglect or mistreatment .. wish I could name the bowmaker but I don't think I need to most of you know who I'm talking about anyway if you've been into longbows long enough no pun intended ;-)

Dave Sherrell i think i have an idea which bowmaker you mean... but anyways, bows break from time to time, even the finest custom bows. I had only one longbow break on me and the manufacturer (small hungarian bowmaker) replaced it instantly without any question or discussion. My newest longbow is from that bowmaker again!

Blackfoot or the $200 more Bodnik Flatbow.....they are all bearpaw n looks 95% identical...should I pay $200 more for the bamboo core n 30 years warranty....given the blackfoot is pretty amazing already but only with 2 years warranty for some marketing reasons.....
@TheDayne7 жыл бұрын
Which Bodik Flatbow do you mean? There's quite some different models.
@ipshing64007 жыл бұрын
LongbowArchery it is named Bodnik Flatbow exactly, a Bodnik custom order @ longbowshxp, the one with black action wood handle, glass/ bamboo core limbs. Same length n looks alike with the Blackfoot.

Ok that one looks very similar to the Blackfoot. I can't say if it is worth 200$ more because I never shot it. It may very well be faster and more comfortable to shoot than the Blackfoot and it might have a nicer finish. I would say if you have the opportunity, go and try it out!

That's not a "longbow", it's an American flat-bow, it could be described as a long bow, because of the overall length, but it's definitely not a longbow. It's nice though!
@TheDayne3 жыл бұрын
Tell that to the manufacturer. AFB go as Longbows everywhere in the world, its just how it is.
@grossartig34062 жыл бұрын
Actually it is a Longbow. Its not a English Longbow but a Longbow. Per definition a longbow is a bow where the string doesnt touch the belly of the bow despite of length. The Holmegard 1 bow was about 58 inches long and a "longbow". In most cases longbows are as long as their users. This bow is definetly a longbow! And a very nice though!
@blindarchershaunhenderson37692 жыл бұрын
@@grossartig3406 that's a strange definition for any bow, "the string doesn't touch the belly" Firstly, I don't know of any bow, anywhere in the world, where the string touches the "belly" of the bow. Secondly, the definition of a "Longbow" is, the same overall length as the height of the shooter, and is "D" shaped in cross-section, and "D" shaped in profile when strung. Thirdly the terms that you are using, as in "belly" etc, come from the traditional description of an, "English Longbow" as you call it, dating back almost 1000 years. Fourthly, the definition of a "flat bow", is a bow of which, the limbs are square or rectangular in cross-section, as is this bow, whilst this is a long-bow, actually a "long flat bow", it does not meet the criteria to be described as a "Longbow". Finally, just because the Americans use the English language incorrectly, and confuse compound words, and adjectives, with nouns, does not make them correct, that which they are calling a "Longbow" is actually a "long-bow" or more correctly, a "long bow", however, in many cases, lazy people, or non native speakers, who cannot speak the language (English) correctly, and some people with an incomplete knowledge of the subject, and Americans, would write or type "longbow". Please notice my use of the upper and lowercase letters in writing the word Longbow, or long bow, it's an important distinction. It's still a nice bow!
@grossartig34062 жыл бұрын
@@blindarchershaunhenderson3769 i used the term "the belly of the bow" in terms for better understanding. Allthough Im sure you know this already I mention it for completeness of the thread : a recurve bow for example is a bow where the string touches the most upper and lower part of "the belly " of the bow. The belly is the part which points towards the shooter. Theres no border where the belly ends. I agree with you in the point long flat bow! I only wanted to point out that besides the classic ELB there are other in crosssection non D-formed bows you can call longbow.
@grossartig34062 жыл бұрын
Besides that a bow which is flat on the belly and naturally rounded on the back is also a "flatbow". Despite being square or rectangular.
