I’ve just taken delivery of this bow today in 35 lbs. Tomorrow I will shoot in the string with some borrowed arrows and then set the brace and nocking points. Thanks to your videos this is my first flat bow. Normally I’m Compound and recurve. At 26 “ draw I’ll have to match some carbon arrows now. Going to look a Bearpaws own carbon black slim shafts at 1000 spine, 3” feathers and 75 grain field points.

Great review. I completely agree with you about the feel and performance of the bow. It is less forgiving than many other bows, i.e. a bad release , the resulting inaccuracy is more obvious. I definitely could feel a little hand shock from my 40lb, but I was using light c/f arrows, and they were quite possibly the cause. It has a sense of shooting off of the hand, like a horsebow, as the riser/grip just sits so snugly in the hand. Awesome shooting too, a great review, that really shows the bow off!
@TheDayne
@TheDayne 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Hutchie! Regarding forgiveness of the bow: I think the bow itself is not less forgiving than other bows, but I am shooting way lighter arrows out of it, than i normally shoot (330grains to normally 430-450grains arrows) so i reckon the reason for the higher inaccuracy when making mistakes is primarily because of the low arrow weight. Another factor could be the string: it is a very light weight, very thin, 10 strand hybrid string, that seems a bit less stable than the 12-14 strand FF strings I normally shoot on my bows. But i will test that out in the coming weeks, I already ordered a 12 strand FF for the Blackfoot!
@Hutchie2112
@Hutchie2112 7 жыл бұрын
could well be the string as well. And it is more noticeable too because the bow is super accurate. I think I ended my 'review' saying it would be a great bow for a 3d shoot. You just proved that! If you have the time, perhaps you could make update videos as you tune things a little.
@TheDayne
@TheDayne 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I definitely will do that! And I am already thinking about going to the next tournament (27.4. to 29.4.) with my Blackfoot instead of my 45# Spider Longbow :D

Loved the video. I just bought a Bearpaw Blackfoot to leave it in the UK as my "second bow" when travelling there. I only shot a few arrows 2 weeks ago when it arrived to test it and I was very happy with its smooth draw and speed. I have the exact same setup as you including arrows (cedar instead of spruce, but same spine range for same poundage, same shaft length, same arrow point weight...) so I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos, they're easy to relate to in my case :) I will probably publish a video with the blackfoot after this weekend's shoot in the UK.
@TheDayne
@TheDayne 7 жыл бұрын
Hehe, very nice! Yeah, regarding the arrows, i was about 95% sure that this setup will be perfect for a 35# Blackfoot. I have a lot of experience with wood arrows and tuning them for longbows and selfbows of all kinds and I am happy that I was spot on with the Blackfoot! Your knowledge further confirmed that :) And yes, please upload a video of you shooting it!

Hi guys, I was wondering if I could get some advice from you: Do you think I should get the Blackfoot or a Timbercreek Stalker? (Link for the stalker: www.merlinarchery.co.uk/timbercreek-stalker-bow-package.html). I have a Bucktrail Vulture so I can't decide whether to grab the Stalker as I've never shot a recurve or go for the Blackfoot as I suspect it will be faster/better quality than my Vulture (for curiosity's sake heres a link for the Vulture: www.merlinarchery.co.uk/buck-trail-vulture-68.html). May your arrows fly true ;)

Rob Smith hello I've just ordered the bearpaw Blackfoot longbow from Merlin archery. Please buy yourself a timber Creek stalker bow I've got two of them 35lbs and a 45lbs I absolutely love them I've got beaver balls on both and Limbsaver recurve broadband silencers and stick-on velcro the fluffy side on the string grooves Plus Flex archery V Flex Dampener. Done Exactly the same on my two hoyt buffalo and Dorado bows. My two stalker bows are a lot quieter and smoother then my hoyt bows with the same add-ons. Trust me you will not be disappointed

Cool, let me know what you think of the blackfoot! Do you have any flatbows currently? R.e. the stalkers, really?! with stock limbs? Do you prefer to shoot the stalkers over the hoyts then? Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it!
@davesherrell447
@davesherrell447 7 жыл бұрын
Rob Smith seriously the timber Creek stalker bows are better than the two hoyt buffalo and Dorado with the same add-ons. Yeah it's hard to believe but true even before I pimped up my stalker bows I knew I had something good. In fact my son and his father in law have both bought timber Creek stalker bows because of what I done to mine. I done exactly the same on my son's bow. now his Father-in-Law wants me to do his stalker bow. Oh and I put some felt between the riser and the limbs honestly it's ridiculous how quiet and smooth my stalkers are for what they cost like I said I love those two little bow's I will never sell either of them and that's the god's honest truth..

Good shooting. It's nIce to see a video of someone shooting a bow weight they can handle. See so many videos of people shooting bows that are too heavy with poor technique because of that. It's much more fun and better training to shoot a light bow for a longer period than struggle with a heavy one.

Sorry I forgot to mention what a coincidence I've ordered the exact same arrows as yours just got to varnish them and fletch them when they come I also ordered 100 grain points to play around with tuning the arrows. My other arrows are 11/32 - 45/50 timber Creek basic that I stripped down after damaging a few feathers well quite a few feathers actually stained with antique pine and vanished. All with white feathers 4 inch right wing cock wing barred myself with gold Sharpie. Going to do the same thing in silver Sharpie with the 5/16 when they come tomorrow so I don't get them mixed up with the 11-32.

@TheDayne
@TheDayne 5 жыл бұрын
I still have it, but don't shoot it as often anymore. I moved up to 40 and 45# drawweight. The quality is good, nothing to complain about that. Keep in mind, that it is a factory made bow, so you can't expect the quality and beauty of a hand crafted custom bow. It is a decent bow for its money (just about 200€) and I still recommend it for beginners that want to shoot longbows!

Nice review! One thing I noticed is that you tend to shoot arrow after arrow quite fast in your videos. I don't know if you do the same thing when you train alone but I would advise you to slow down a bit. Maybe take a few seconds between each shot in order to allow your muscles relax as well as focus on each shot as much as you can. That's what I personally do and I find it very helpful. By the way, those 60 yard shots were pretty impressive, especially consider a 35# bow.
@TheDayne
@TheDayne 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice! Thats a bad habit of mine, I shoot too many arrows too fast. When I make a bad shot, I immediately want to make it right, so I shoot another arrow right after that :D I am working on that. One good focused shot is better than 10 sloppy and rushed shots!

You are a true master at the Art of archery. I hope to shoot my Blackfoot longbow as good as yourself. This will be my first longbow I've got a few recurve bows that I absolutely love especially my 2 timber Creek stalker bows that I've tuned to perfection done exactly the same accessories to my 2 Hoyt bows nowhere near as quiet as my stalker bows can't say enough good things about timber Creek stalker bows love them. I'm going to sell my hoyt Dorado and buffalo and get myself a bearpaw quick stick or bearpaw Redman or something similar as long as is a bodnik bow. Damn I wish I could shoot as good as you..

Dave Sherrell Hi Dave! Thanks for kind words :-) while i think that i am quite a good shot with the longbow, i am still far from being a master archer 😁 especially not on those bad days that happen every once in a while. I wish you a lot of fun with your new Blackfoot. Its a nice shooter and a beauty too :-) hope youll use some fine wood arrows with it too, no better feeling than a nicely tunig wood arrow launching out of a good longbow!
