BIG Connor Williams Update & Why Chicago Bears Should Sign Him + Keenan Allen Contract Extension?

Connor Williams’ agent Drew Rosenhaus provided an update on Williams’ status as he confirmed Adam Schefter’s report that he’ll be fully recovered from a torn ACL by Week 1 of the 2024 NFL Season. Rosenhaus also mentioned that Williams wants to play center, meaning it’s unlikely that he’ll re-sign with the Miami Dolphins. Should the Chicago Bears sign him to upgrade from Coleman Shelton and Ryan Bates? Also, is a Keenan Allen contract extension going to happen before Bears Training Camp?

- Current Cap Space: $21.62 Million
- Caleb Williams & Rome Odunze haven’t signed
- Will still have $11-12 Million left after they sign
- Several cap cut candidates to clear more cap space
Ryan Fowler (Bleacher Report) On Keenan Allen:
“Allen, while 31 years old, can still get it done on the outside. While he'll be the elder statesmen of the Bears' receiving core this fall, extending him would present the Bears with years of a trio that could be the best in football. Considering an extension also remains on the horizon for D.J. Moore (UFA following next year), utilizing the $21.6 million in current cap to lock up Allen would be wise of Poles.”

Bring Connor Williams in for medical checkup and see if he is truly healthy. If he checks out, go ahead and sign him. I am somewhat skeptical only because it has only been 6 months and previous reports were the injury could be career ending. I think he is just looking for a final pay day.

My biggest concerns for the Bears are the lines. Both offensive and defensive. Im weary about depth for both. Im also unsure about the center of the line for both, and I'd LOVE another edge of the D. Past that, i feel strong to even GREAT at every position group.

Depth? DEPTH?!? There is NONE on o line. The current starting center is another DEPTH guy. For another rookie QB. Our LT is a depth guy. I don’t understand Poles’ plan, he calls himself an o line guy, and gets cute with it rather than signing good players.

Brink0 Ryan Bates won’t do shit but Coleman Shelton should be solid. Nate Davis will probably suck dick again. Hopefully Amegadgie will be healthy on time. As for edge 2, Booker could be a starting level edge by the end of the year but we need a guy to fill in for him early. Demarcus Walker isn’t a fucking edge rusher, I think it’s safe to say that 😂

I’m more in favor of Drafting someone with one of our 2nd round picks next year as a WR Slot Tech instead of resigning Keenan Allen. Especially if that 2nd round pick is a Top 40 pick from Carolina and this WR falls out of the 1st round similar to how Tevin Jenkins was supposed to be a 1st round talent coming out.

3 is better than 2. It’s that simple, he’s proven to be productive, so I would extend him at a reasonable price to lock up the core for at least 2 years. I’m looking at it from a short term future perspective for Caleb and the offense to be locked in.

Keenan Allen is a great player. But if things go well you’re gonna have to pay a lot of people in the coming years. Most of our secondary is on rookie contracts and they’ve played well. Hopefully by this time next year Caleb Williams plays well enough that it’s a guarantee that Caleb Williams will be in line for a big contract. Then there’s DJ Moore who’s a young crucial piece. 30 year old Keenan Allen would be taking a lot of cap space

Signing Williams would be the perfect fit for the Bears Oline. Williams at starting center and Coleman Shelton to back him up. Bates or Davis at guard with Jenkins and the tackles are set with backups if the rookie gets healthy. In my 53 years we have never had this much skill and talent on the Oline. We are always looking for non starting talent left overs just to fill in starting spots.

We don’t have the cap. We signed bates AND Sheldon in the off season, and drafted another Tackle/Guard rotation. Would I rather have Connor Williams? Absolutely. But if we are going to use our cap on anything it should be DT/ED help unless you REALLY think we have something with Dexter

Extend DJ Moore but wait on Allen, even is he balls out, he's more likely to take a discount if he sees the team is great and has regular SB potential between now and the end of his career. Ultimately given the career Allen has had and the point he is at now after this deal he is going to be looking for 1-2 year deals that pay him decently on teams that can be SB contenders right now as he has never really had that opportunity and has made his money.
