In my opinion, Alcaraz is a strong candidate when it comes to versatility on all surfaces. However, he currently lacks the consistency needed to win all Grand Slam titles in a single year. Nevertheless, I am confident that he will get his chances and might one day make history.
@michael8597Ай бұрын
Interi - I never equated him with Berdych; I only said that he plays such a style - which is ofcourse true - but is a much better version. So I already gave him due credit. Berdych is not an ordinary player and ranked as high as 4 in a brutal era comprising Novak, Nadal, Federer, Murray, Wawarinka, Del Potro and Tsonga. I also clearly said that the prospect of an upset was possible, but not probable. We knew how commentators and analysts completely wrote off Meddy's chances against Alcaraz at US open 2023; Meddy's chances against Sinner at Wimbledon 2024 and even Novak's chances against Alcaraz at Olympics 2024, and then had to cut a very sorry face with outcomes being different. If you go and play against Sinner with a defeatist mindset like Meddy or Ruud, it will never work. Fritz had to clock around 75% first serve percentage to have a chance, but he couldn't manage it and his weak second serve got exposed to Sinner's advantage.
@RaviKumar-tu6lsАй бұрын
Fritz clocked 75% first serves actually which was also the most first serves he has made in this tournament .

Sinner's 2nd serve is so good a bit like federer in his best days so precise and accurate very much better than Zverev or fritz's 2nd serve .

I see some points differently. You emphasize that Sinner in 2024 is not the same player he was in 2023, which I only partly agree with. From a purely tennis perspective, I believe Sinner has not fundamentally changed - technically and in terms of his game, he was already at a top level from Wimbledon 2023 onwards. The key difference lies more in the mental aspect, where he has significantly matured. This mental growth has helped him win matches in crucial moments that he might have lost previously. On hard courts, I see a 50/50 duel between him and Djokovic in 2023. Djokovic proved in 2023 that he is almost unbeatable on this surface, but with a mentally stronger Sinner in 2024, it would be a showdown on equal terms. On clay and grass, however, Djokovic in 2023 remains clearly superior. His versatility and experience on these surfaces - especially his dominant clay-court game and tactical precision on grass - give him a significant advantage over Sinner, who still shows weaknesses on these surfaces. In the overall picture, Djokovic in 2023 is the better tennis player. He was able to dominate on all surfaces, whereas Sinner’s success in 2024 primarily comes from hard courts. Djokovic in 2023 had not only a top technical level but also impressive mental strength, which made him nearly unbeatable in the decisive moments of matches. It’s also clear that Djokovic in 2024 is not the same player as he was in 2023. His season planning and form curve suggest he has specifically focused on the Olympic Games. One gets the impression that Djokovic would have been willing to sacrifice all other titles in 2024 if it meant winning the gold medal at the Olympics. This shows how, with age, he has reassessed his priorities. Conclusion: Even though Sinner in 2023 was not mentally the same player as he is in 2024, Djokovic in 2024 is also definitely not the same player he was in 2023. Therefore, Djokovic in 2023 remains the overall more complete tennis player. Additionally, I would like to mention that, in my opinion, Alcaraz has a higher level than Sinner, particularly on clay and grass, especially on grass. His movement, versatility, and ability to adapt to different surfaces give him an edge on these surfaces. However, I see Sinner at a higher level than Alcaraz on hard courts, where his aggressive baseline game, improved serve, and consistency make him a more complete player than Alcaraz in this specific context.

Sinner has the best BH not zverev and Carlos having the highest ceiling has to be a wrong statement you keep repeating . By the way Sinner has excellent variety, slice and his drop shots are deadly even has the best drop shot winning percentage on tour this year .
@nicolaswhitehouse3894Ай бұрын
I don’t think Djokovic will be a threat to Sinner, precisely because of what you said with Fritz : what actually Djokovic does better than Sinner currently ? The response is almost nothing. There is nothing right now that Djokovic does better than Sinner. Maybe Djokovic can still be a threat to Carlos, because they are actually things that he does better than Carlos. But not against Sinner.

I'd really love to see this 2024 version of Jannik versus the Fantastic Four of the last decade (on hardcourts). It'd be super interesting. I'd say only Novak 2015 and 2019 is outright slightly better but against the rest, it's as great a contest as ever.

Novak beats him in 2 sets. Do not exaggerate Sinner. Except Alcaraz he has no real oppoment. DJOKOVIC WILL win next year 2 grandslams if he stays injury free AND if he dont play the first semifinal daysession australian open match. i saw in some matches from sinner that his fittness is not to good in extreme long matches. I think djokovic fitness will be really good in australia and i still think that djokovic fitness is still little bit better then sinner even in this high age. I saw that in that six slam nonsense tournament. Novak won in the third set most of the long rallys, but he lose in the end because of some unforced errors. AGAIN if djokovic plays sinner in that fast australian open night session condition he will win that match. BUT SINNER IS THE MEN TO BEAT on hardcourts

Don't forget that Sinner has lost to Alcaraz thrice this year, twice on hard court, and has never beaten him. So it is still possible to beat him if you play with excellence, consistency and variety. At Shanghai, Novak was the better player in the first set and was 5-4, 0-30 on Sinner's serve but then made fatal unforced errors to gift it to Sinner. If he had won that first set, you never know how the match would have turned out ??

Sinner is the new Djokovic. He plays like him, he plays percentages and where he differs from Djokovic is that he hits harder and perhaps even faster. He's not as creative as Alcaraz--Alcaraz is beautiful to watch--but right now he's better than Carlos. Next year may be different but today it's Sinner.
@timytidy60Ай бұрын
i dont compare Sinner with big three. They all beat this Sinner. These generations do not have that extra skill and emotional power. If you can crack Sinner and get inside his mind, you can slowly take the control of the match. You can not beat him with hard power, you need to distort his mind. This is what Novak would do. who has mental skill to distort Sinner's mind. Nobody. Only Medvedev at his best or Novak at his best.

Sinner is a good player but he is far away from big 3 level. Due to the weak competition he is able to win so many titles this year. The fact he played final of US open and ATP final against Taylor Fritz indicate how weak competition we get this days. Taylor is limited players who 10-15 yers ago would have a hard time to broke in top 20 players. He is fortune to play in the era when big 3 retired and only competator is Alcaraz who is not impressive at the fast HC surface. This is a dark age for tennis.
