I can't believe you make videos out of these things! It is wonderful to capture these adventures and share them - most people will never do something like this and it really is an incredible experience. Kudos to you for putting in the work to both run the race and create this content. Definitely need to get your light/battery situation sorted. I like running at night and do trails in the dark on purpose regularly, but in a race I have a waist light, a backup headlamp, and spare batteries for both. Charging everything is on the race-prep checklist. You did great to manage through this one though :) Great job man!

Thank you so much! It's an honor to be able to do what I can, and being able to film and make these documentaries of the experiences are something to cherish for forever! They take me forever to make, but it's always 100% worth it when the final product comes out. About the light issue, this was just a confluence of unfortunate circumstances.... I normally run with backup batteries at the least, and often with an entire backup light just in case. For this race, I knew that barring anything extreme, I'd only need a headlamp for about 2-3 hours MAX, so I changed the batteries out to "fresh" ones in the hotel the night before thinking that would totally suffice. In the video you hear me mention "make sure its the red one" because I actually had two headlamps packed in the drop bag, and the irony is, if I had taken the BLUE one, it probably would have lasted longer than red one that I had. Either way, I'm grateful for the generosity of fellow racers, aid station volunteers (and my buddy for having a spare bottle) to help me out in the times that I needed it most. Truly cannot achieve these performances otherwise. Thanks for watching!!

That Rock Top section looked gnarly! Great job!

Thank you!! It’s especially tricky when they’re wet, and can be super hard to find the most optimal path in the dark - even with a fully bright headlamp!

Thank you so much! I am indeed really proud of not only the race performance but how this video documentary came out too. It takes me forever to make them, but it’s always so worth it to have and look back on whenever I want. Thank for watching!!

Thank you so much! I had a great time at the race (except for the technical difficulties at the end) and glad we got to pass by over and over! Congrats on another 100!

Great video Scott. Rock top with wet rocks and minimal lighting is insane. Great running with you again as usual! 👏👏👏

Yes the last 2 hours of the race were pretty stressful not being able to see… but I’m glad everything worked out, and am super grateful for everyone’s generosity to help out when I needed it.

Great work, both running but also filming/editing. Really loved your mapping of the course, nice work with that.

Thank you so much! Those map animations take so long to make and sometimes drive me up the wall 😂 but I think they add a nice touch and am happy how they come out (eventually)

Thank you! Up until nightfall, all the pieces came together nicely, and even with all the problems after 6pm I was still able to hang on just long enough!

Hi from Jonathan (brief appearance at 6:45) !! It was nice running with you Scott, great job on the sub-twelve and top ten finish! I finished in 14h57 - felt great for my first ultra, although I realized over the next few weeks I'd tweaked my IT band pretty good. Not sure if I'll run any more races at this distance in the future, but I'll keep an eye out for you for sure!

Hey Jonathan! So glad you found my video! It was great meeting you and running a bit with you! Congrats on your finish and as I said when we met, this was a really hard race for your first ultra! I had run many 50k’s before attempting my first 50 miler so it says a lot to jump right in like this and make it to the end like you did! Take whatever time you need to recover and enjoy what you like most, but I’ve got a feeling the itch for these races will come back at some point. Hope to see you around!

Thank you Aaron! This was a fun race to run, I’m happy I met my goals even with all the issues towards the end (and leaving my bottle at one of the AS’s) and had a good time making the video. I appreciate you commenting on the edit because it’s nice to know my efforts get acknowledged. Hope to have you on board for my upcoming adventures!

Having to go up and over Rock Top (and back) two more times is crazy and this race it was mixed in with the dense fog and pouring rain overnight!

What ages doing these races? 55+?
@ScottRunsnStuff10 ай бұрын
There’s quite a range actually. I’m 28 and would say on the younger side of things, there’s also people 50+ running these. I’d say the most common age is around mid-30’s though. Thanks for watching!!
