And then Beast Wars came along, got us all excited by reusing words like "Megatron," dropped us a few hints that it was a sequel, and then just delivered this massive bombshell.

I remember watching this when I was younger and being FLOORED. I was a huge fan of G1, and until this point the connections between G1 and Beast Wars were tenuous at best. This arc, and this moment, completely blew the doors off of it. This made Beast Wars go from a mere follow up to a full blown sequel.

CRocketSlim Yeah, I know that episode, which again, shows why history cannot be changed. No matter what Starscream did, it did not alter the timestream. If you remember back to when Megatron tried to kill the Proto-humans, the events actually inspired them to create tools and weapons, thereby jumpstart in their evolution to humans. There's an example of predestined time paradox. If you really want to change history, you have to be meticulous and consider all factors. Otherwise you'll either cause no change IN YOUR TIMELINE, or create a separate timeline parallel to yours. That's where the idea of parallel world's comes from.

Assuming the writers create some sort of bs and that the "all spark" can recreate from scratch a new matrix of leadership then yes I'd agree with you but now your getting into speculation territory. Why not ask the creators and writers of beastwars if your that vested into this argument. Your argument doesn't stand There's is one possibility, bc Optimal optimus mingled his spark with Prime's he may have downloaded the matrix of leadership into his spark. But with prime dead it would mean he'd have to stay behind prehistoric earth to ensure he can pass the blueprints back to prime when they awaken. Getting to see Sound Wave, Star Scream and G1 (gun) Megatron was just so awesome! Funny enough, apparently, one of the Beast Wars games had an alternate ending that pointed out the flaw in the Megatrons' plan. By destroying Optimus Prime, the Matrix of Leadership also got destroyed, which in turn allowed Unicron to destroy Cybertron. The Transformer wiki has more info.

Jaye3rd89 the reason why predicons and maximals are tiny compared to the original g1 transformers is because, in the future after the Great War with the Decepticons and Autobots, the transformers on Cybertron had Energon problems which they were really low supply of Energon on Cybertron, so the transformers built smaller bodies so they can consume Energon and save energy, and not waste it on bigger bodies.

What gets me is if his plan came to fruition Unicron would have conquered or outright destroyed the Decepticon Empire and Cybertron without a matrix bearer to stop him. I guess a case could be made about the Golden disk not having any information post 1984 and the Maximal Imperium having censored the history of the great war from the Predacons as part of the Pax Cybertronia but ultimately Megatron's plan to just snuff out Prime and alter the timeline seems like it would carry more risk than tangible results. I'm not very well versed in theoretical physics or how time travel works but if Megatron 2 succeeded in making it so the Decepticons win well then he would have no real reason to steal the Golden disc in the first place and would never have altered the timeline I guess to put it simply he would theoretically be cancelling his own plans out via temporal paradox or just ripping apart the fabric of reality and killing himself retroactively as seen here.

Not necessarily. There's a spin-off comic series called Beast Wars: Uprising that shows what the future would look like had Megatron's plan succeeded in rewriting history. Unicron was fought off by the combined efforts of the Autobots and the Decepticons, similar to how he was in the Movie, though the specifics are very vague.

When I was a child, I refused to acknowledge Beast Wars as actually being Transformers. I mean it was too much of a drastic change that the main hero was now a Gorilla and not a truck and the rest of the cast are bunch of animals instead of vehicles and planes. Also since there was no real trace at the beginning that this show is connected to the G1 timeline. After seeing this scene, my whole perspective of the show completely changed.

I thought, perfect title for a series where we go back to a massive bot-con sized conflict. sadly, a false rumor. other actions and comments by Hasbro added to the feel 'classic Transformers' was over. (Takara wanted to make a G1 show, Hasbro fought them claiming nobody remembers canon and lore...saying this AFTER Beast Wars was so successful combining new and lore together!!) the show Takara ended up making was 'TF Armada' as we know it today. why you missed this reply? well, you are a big time youtuber now ;)

yeah, shame the private inbox thing on youtube doesn't work anymore. we had a talk about Armada once before, you asked me when and why Armada got good. I may have watched more TF anime then you (maybe?) because Armada is one big cliche. most TF anime I've seen always has the same type of characters (the leader, the villain, the coming of age guy, the silly loon) and ALWAYS a second in command character that has a change of heart. and the show is at its best in its last quarter (not saying much, but the writers usually seem to think ''oh yeah, we're making a show, should we do something?'') and don't forget the final scene when the Cybertrons (Autobots) say goodbye to the human characters. even when it makes no sense. (saying goodbye to Spike after 26 years) I remember thinking episode 39 is Armada's best episode. btw. when I watch a TF anime its always the dub with subs. (as original as I can get it) Megatron-Sama!! ;P (I think that means Megatron-Sensei)

Good thing for beast wars megatron his plan didn’t work. Else he’d stick himself in an infinite time loop. Think about it. If he didn’t blast Optimus History would go as normal. But if he did blast Optimus then the future where he did blast Optimus would not exist, since the maximal/predicon future he stemmed from WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. If it never happens, how could he go back in time to change it?

Depending on what rules that apply it looks like the time travlers and their memories are not actually affected while they're in the past. What can be affected is their very existence though. However, a change in history doesn't take effect immidiately, which is why the Maximals had enough time to repair the damage.

seeing G1 cast here was just so nostalgic, especially the big names. Beast Wars was basically the door that opened up and showed me this universe. i may not have gotten all the references back then but now i can smile and say 'i understood that reference'

Events like this are why older Transformers cartoons are exponentially better than current series like the newer Robots In Disguise or Earthspark. There's so many layers to the lore and how its intertwined, and that they weren't afraid to flip the stories and timelines on their behinds. It's so much deeper and made you think while watching them. Series these days are so watered down its almost not worth watching.

Megatron is one of the bigger Beast Wars characters, but compared to the G1 Transformers he's maybe a bit taller than a human.

And of course Megatron can’t just blast his target. No, he has to monologue about it first. Yes. Then again I guess that was an important moment and all. But still, it is a trope that villains will rant and monologue before actually killing their enemies. It is cliche but also fun to watch.

Like how the size is correct. Although if BW Megatron changes to a T-Wex and the Autobots turn into human sized vehicles. I think War For Cybertron comes closer in size comparison...I think. Cause in this version the G1 bots are HUGE.
