I think that the author's choice to wear the hen mask is metaphorical. She's continuously producing small pieces of art for us to consume. And considering that every artist puts a bit of themselves in their art, the egg analogy works perfectly. Sure, it is a little unsettling, but maybe putting yourself out there is quite unsettling too
@wwvvvvvww3 жыл бұрын
Well, it's a little bit more straight-forward than that. The hen is the self-portrayal of the author herself in the manga. Apparently it's quite obvious to the manga readers when she was first introduced, well before the anime adaptation or the author wearing the mask. But still, good points.

Having read the manga, I'd have to say I'm disappointed with the series as a whole. The first season of the anime covers most of what I felt was more "grounded" in the story (with the issue involving a certain pack of lions aside.) But the story goes completely off the rails a short bit after were the first season leaves off. I don't have much experience with anime/manga, so I don't know if the kinds of topics or story telling is typical to anime/manga. I'm curious if my confusion or objections to the story are issues of cultural differences, cultural story telling, or just the author's skill at writing (it's my understanding the author is relatively new to it.)

4:22 - Oh For Godsakes... THERE WAS NO NEED FOR THAT SNOOTY, CONDESCENDING CRITIQUE OF THE TONE OF ZOOTOPIA/DISNEY'S "FAMILY FRIENDLY" TENDENCIES!!! Sure, Zootopia comes off a bit heavy handed in it's message, namely that anyone regardless of species, eating habits, lifestyle, etc etc can live together peacefully and become whoever they desire to be in spite of said criterias, but at the end of the day it's a good, entertaining movie. It doesn't _need_ to be crass, or bloody, or even pessimistic to get it's point across and to tell its story. A lot of people like it for what it is. Likewise, Beastars being the series that actively puts its characters into morally conflicting situations that questions/critiques the "goodness" of humanity (or perhaps animality), of course, doesn't _need_ to be tasteful, or pacifying, or even optimistic to get it's point across and to tell its story. A lot of other people like it for what it is. And besides, as far as I can tell, no one forced a gun to your head and _demanded_ that you bow down to the Disney films and proclaim that they are all great as they are, lest you get your brain splattered all over the place. Your life hasn't been destroyed or controlled by their relatively positive messages, and you're still able formulate your own personal opinions on them, good and bad. But at the very least, don't come off like a snooty twat about it. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed your review, and I respect your opinion regardless of whether I agree with you or not.

In fact, in the latter's case, I was very surprised people were praising it as much as they were, because while it obviously looked much better than the usual CG stuff, I still never thought it really looked good or on par with what I usually see in regular animation. The framerate of movements especially bothers me, it just feels so choppy, and in Beastar's case, the facial expressions got severely toned down compared to the manga, which I felt wasn't great either

To me beastars was more of a drama/romance but zooptopia was a little different I guess why people see it as the same because of the setting/animals

@@TheMelMan I prefer the more realistic and deep take of Beastars, specially having read the manga and know how darker S2 will get, rather than the Disney movie made for kids that is Zootopia

@@Finozzi96 I'll reserve my judgement till I watch sn2. I felt sn1 fell into the usual anime tropes of dragging on drama for too long. I was very invested for example when Legosi went to fight the mob to rescue the girl. If there is more of that then I am more interested than I am in the long periods of drama club and slow relationship building. The pacing has been off for me.
@Finozzi963 жыл бұрын
@@TheMelMan then you're in luck because the next arc, what S2 will cover, is mostly about action and mystery trying to find out Tem's killer, and its less romance/slice-of-life compared to S1. Actually, Haru's screen time is greatly reduced on all the arcs following S1

keep in mind that the manga goes beyond this. the first season works as an intro to a much more complex story later on

Idk something about the Legoshi’s almost obsession with the Haru was a little off putting for me. I didn’t find it romantic and honestly I wasn’t convinced of their love story. I feel like there is no build up. He’s just obsessed. And I’m also not convinced of Haru falling for him when. They barely interact. It’s mostly is just watching him watch her. It’s the tv show YOU but with slightly less serial killer vibes from Legoshi However I’m still watching it for the other Characters

This is a very interesting take! It reminds me of John Berger’s depiction of the male gaze in Ways of seeing

This was addressed in the show. Is he really in love for her or is it his predatory instincts going off.
@hyperkid3213 жыл бұрын
Thats where the tension of the story derives from with Legoshi's obsession with Haru. Is his obsession because of romantic feelings, or predatory instinct camouflaged as romantic attraction. Where seeing Legoshi so actively confused and unsure he is fixated on Haru, and to see him choosing to be closer and closer to Haru while still confused. In my first watch though, I was watching a horrifying tragedy, where Legoshi was delusioning himself in believing he loves Haru instead accepting the fact that it's just predatory instincts. You are afraid things are going to end badly. So when is revealed that it's actually love Legoshi is feeling, it was a major feeling of relief. And thats where the catharsis come from really. that the worse case scenerio isn't going to happen.
@heliolux69043 жыл бұрын
Exactly right! It’s not really romantic, it’s more hes instinctually drawn by her through some combination of lust and predatory instincts that even Legoshi is trying to understand and come to terms with. It’s not bad romantic writing; it’s like that intentionally. If you don’t think they should be together, that’s perfectly fine! Haru also doesn’t completely fall for him; she has been “romantic” with so many characters and, LIGHT SPOILER: isn’t committed to legoshi specifically. In season 2 she seems still very attached to Louis.

THANK YOU for finally saying that people are only calling this a furry anime for clickbait. I’m just a weeb wanting to enjoy some good stories, but any time I even mention this show, I’m called a furry, and it gets pretty annoying tbh.
@froufroudeluxe3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. It’s interesting how so many cartoons and anime had anthropomorphic characters in the past and weren’t called furry before, say mid 2010s. It became the popular thing to hate, even though it doesn’t really make sense to dislike characters purely because they’re anthropomorphic
