That beat is pure madness. So much stuff, sounds, odd melodies, funky bass lines, lot of different snares, amazing cymbals, punchy kick, top notch engineering/production. Porn for ears. I miss in newschool music production like this, seriously some people just don´t understand why i prefer this kind of production. It aged perfectly. That middle section with turntables/scratches with that brutal bass line... it brought tears in my eyes.

Souvent les paroles des BB ne sont que des absurdités amusantes. Je suis d'accord avec toi que ça ne fait rien, parce que la musique est une langue universelle, je dirais une langue d'émotion pure. I think most people don’t realize the amount of time, and tedious effort that it took to create this album. Recorded analog. Actual tape loops. Also from a stylistic standpoint, what a huge shift from License to ILL. They grew up, no more mindless frat boy music exploiting women. Paul’s Boutique was a huge turning point in their career, especially moving forwards when they began to add more live instrumentation to their music.

The epoch-making Beastie Boys (w/help from the D Brothers) masterpiece Paul's Boutique is a stunning achievement, the impact of which can't be overstated & represents a point at which we hear the B. This was my snowboarding soundtrack on my Walkman back in the day when it came out. That whole album still holds so strong. I did miss the break on this version where you hear the matchstick light and then hearing the bowl getting snapped before the explosion into the drums.

Harry Armstrong Well, one of my former instructors in film school invented the lens so that it would distort the city's skyline in the background. It's been a few years since I heard the story, so forgive the lack of details, but the need to invent the lens was to cater to the record company's ego. Additionally, the way the lens worked is why the crew is visible in the video. It pretty much captured everything that was on that rooftop.

This was when Hip-Hop was fun, these guys told stories, cracked jokes, and roasted people. It was just good clean fun and the beats were snazzy and catchy. Not just the Beastie Boys but most Hip-Hop back during this time like Kool Moe D, and LL's early days.
