Well kind of. The pure authoritarianism critique is 1984 by Orwell. Orwell, who himself was a Democratic Socialist, used Animal Farm to critique the Marxist-Leninist system of government in the USSR. He wanted to show how they revolted against one oppressive system which just enabled another, different one to grow.

I read Animal Farm: The Graphic Novel, aged 12 in early 2020. In fact, it was the last book I checked out from my middle school's library in the Before Times. The librarian told me that if I was reading this at twelve years old, there was no reason I couldn't read the real Animal Farm. I was saddled with it during early COVID, until it was returned to the school in August 2020. I'll still randomly start singing Beasts of England, at sixteen, and I haven't read this book in over three years. I still haven't read the real Animal Farm, and I'll be a junior in high school, come August. The picture of the butchered pig carcass with it's head cut off stuck with me and so did Boxer getting turned into glue. I felt bad for Boxer, which is a very common reaction.
