Hi Glen. I was at the show as well. Here it is Sunday and I'm still buzzing from it. I don't think I'll ever forget this one. I had a special moment during Adrian Belew's "spotlight" moment. If you'll recall, each musician had their chance to steal the centre of attention for brief periods. Belew started playing otherworldly sounds that gained in intensity in some sort of mashup of sound. There were a few moments when it sounded like a damaged, glitchy version of R2-D2. It really blew me away. He's a genius and a master musician with a heart of gold and a great sense of humour. What a night! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

"Discipline" is a great album! I was introduced to this King Crimson lineup, with a live video for "Elephant Talk" on Much Music one day in the mid-'80's. It reminded me a lot of David Byrne and the Talking Heads. A lot of that lineup's music does.
@GlenKellawayfromthebasementАй бұрын
It is a bit similar..never thought of that..Adrian Belew worked with Talking Heads..

I'm on a little Widespread Panic kick too. Really awesome band, poped up a couple of times in my Spotify recommendations. They are way more jammy on their live albums. There is a ton of them on Spotify, trying to get through them, can't buy all of that stuff. Dave Schools, their bassist, and Jimmy Herring, their guitarist, played with Mule a couple of times. Duane Trucks, Derek's brother, is currently on Drums. So, kind of a no-brainer to give thrm a try.

@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement yeah, I was quite surprised when you mentioned them. They have such a massive catalog, it's really hard to figure out where to start. Specially with all the live albums, I really enjoy the recorded shows, thinking about getting some digitally if possible, it's way too much to just store. They also have some good stuff on their KZbin channel, like 700+ videos... should be enough for a couple of days.

Big thumbs up!!! 😊👍I'm so glad you had a great time! As much as I love Danny Carey, I do love Steve Vai and have a lot of his music too. If you ever get the chance, you need to check out the G3 stuff he did with Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson.

Saw the ATL gig; thought Carey was a better Bruford than Vai was a Fripp. Amazing, great work all around, especially Ade's vox which never seems to get enough credit. Think it is interesting that they are book-ending the set with two Ade spoken word songs and that they kick off the show by re-claiming "Neurotica" from the recent touring incarnation of Crimson. Do check them out if they come to your town.

Oh man - so cool you got those autographs! Tony was the absolute sweetest man when I met him. I have tickets to this tour in one week in Cincinnati and I cannot wait. I actually saw Adrian perform with the “Crimson Projekt” way back in 2011 or so opening for Dream Theater which was wild. I actually saw Widespread Panic a couple years ago and they were great. Man - I can’t wait. You get a chance to see what merch looked like? Anything cool?

Sounds great, I'm glad you had a great time and were able to get autographs. I took your advice and checked out the tour schedule. The closest it comes to me is Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 12/4/24, about a 90-minute drive north of me. I checked out the TicketBastard situation: $65 US dollars (face value) + all the extra fees = $194 USD. No way. I'm retired and on a fixed income and that amount is above my WAM (walk-around money) limit.

I'm sure this was a great concert with such accomplished musicians, but KC ended in '75 for me. I tried but the 80s band didn't rise to the heights of the final incarnation in the 70s. As for WSP, I love that album. I don't listen to much after Michael Houser passed in 2002. His lingering lead was the sound of WSP. Jimmy Herring is probably a more accomplished guitarist but Mikey was the man. You need to try to listen to an archived live release. They are improvising glory. I was supposed to see them in Montral but couldn't make it. Fortunately they released it live. Great live album. Cheers.
