Beat Saber Custom Avatars and Camera Plus | Mod tutorial (Sept) 2020

Do you want some cool custom avatars as well as capturing them in Beat Saber from different camera angles? Well, in this beat saber tutorial we go over step by step on how to get these mods installed and everything else that comes with it. Search through and pick the custom avatar you want and with the magic of camera plus mod you can catch them in 3rd person, 1st person, or 360 3rd person and additional settings! This video works with the current version of mod assistant 1.11.1

For OCULUS QUEST users (1 and 2) you have limited customized options, but here's what to expect & setup for SideQuest & BMBF which are Quest specific mod managers (camera plus and custom avatar not included):

UNLESS you have OCULUS LINK cable connecting the Quest to the PC including a beat saber version bought either in Steam or Oculus (not the quest store app version), download Mod Assistant, and you can refer/continue with this specific tutorial.
For PSVR users, unfortunately, there is NO method for adding mods onto the console system.

If by chance the One Click Install is not working I found out that you need to click on "Enable OneClick Install" and uncheck the 3 choices you have in there and then recheck them. Now, I get the notification saying that my avatar has been downloaded and this method works the same for sabers (get custom sabers mod in MA first), songs, and Platforms(Need custom platform mod from the beat saber modding group discord).

That green screen behind the avatar is literally just that. It's chroma keyed out. Not a bug.

Question. Not a VR user but where after you say add on your avatar. How good does it reflect the actual movement of the body & leg / feet? Asking as not sure whats your full set up as can only see you detail having a headset & controllers. So was wondering how good would the avatar reflect the rest of the body movement?

Its called full body tracking, i use it, i would say if you do get it...get vive trackers for your body, there the best ones

If on quest, do you need to play the PC version of Bestsaber? (E.g. rift version) or can I play the Quest store version and add this mod to the Quest?

Glad that you ask that! So quest users are limited in mods with the use of the quest store version. For instance camera avatar and camera plus won't work as they aren't supported mods for quest UNLESS you have the OCULUS LINK which will convert your quest to a full fledge pc vr headset as it is now connected by cable. Then you would need to buy beat saber on either oculus rift store (not the quest app store) or steam. From there you will have full access to all the mods using mod assistant (mod manager) instead of a few. Hope this made things clear enough :)

@@alteration_rift1697 i’ve compared airlink and VD multiple times on my headset and the quality of airlink is just so bad that i cannot recommend it over VD. Also if you want to play steam vr then VD is way better bc you don’t have to run through the oculus software which improves performance significantly

@@alteration_rift1697 well magbe for beat saber bc its pretty easy to run but if u play a bigger game you will definetly experience performance issues by using link/airlink. The headset has to run trough the oculus software (which already takes alot) and then go through steam vr (which is also heavy) to play the game. Its just another performance gate that ur pc has to pass trough. It is essentially just running multiple applications which takes a heavy toll on the performance

You need to activate camera plus mod which i cover that in this video. Once you make a camera in game you simply adjust it by grabbing it in game and moving it to the angle you want it. I cover that in this video. Note this only works on your recordings and not the view inside your vr headset. Your vr headset will always be 1st person view

My avatar is completely white and stays in a T pose. It would be amazing if you could make a tutorial on how to get an avatar from blender to work with this mod if you know how to do that. I just can't figure it out 😅🙏

I will have to look into it! It could be that the avatar is saved in a different format from blender compared to the formats of other custom avatars. I’ll get back to you on that when i’m on my pc tomorrow as i’m going to bed lol.

@@DLegionHeir I have followed a tutorial on how to give the avatar dynamic bones and to export it as a .avatar for LIV. My model also has a unitypackage which I used for that.

ChirpyMisha oh really then the file is in the correct format. Odd how it won’t show it properly hmm better if i get a model, import to blender to put dynamic bones, export and see if i get the same results. It will be awhile though 😅

hmm what headset you use? Can you double-check to see if customavatar.dll, as well as dynamicopenvr.manifest, is in your plugins folder?

I had to make sure that smooth camera in the default settings menu in-game was disabled then it worked.

@@DLegionHeir It doesnt show up, like most people on the side of their menu they have a tab saying mods. And for me l doesnt show anything, and one more question..I uninstalled and reinstalled beat saber just now, and now l have the mods tab but when l go into a level my sabers and blocks dont show up. A way to say this is the blocks in all levels are just completely invisible, and l know where the blocks start in the song but when they song starts, it doesnt show the blocks or it doesnt show that l missed the blocks at all. One simple way to say this is Its levels but with no blocks basicly, and for my sabers l have to pause the song and unpause it to show my sabers in my hands.

@@Korpei typically when you install the pre selected mods from mod assistant and then play the game once, it will create it for you. Try this: 1) Press `uninstall BSIPA` button in Mod Assistant's options (not in mods tab) 2) Reinstall mods by pressing install/update in the mods tab 3) Start and then exit the game 4) Click install/update in Mod Assistant again

No unfortuantely quest is limited in mods and camera plus nor custom avatar will work under the quest mod manager. To use these mod as well as every other mod you need Oculus link cable to connect to your quest to your pc or laptopn making it a fully wired headset, a beatsaber version bought in steam or oculus store instead of the quest app store, and then download mod assistant.

My version of beatsaber is from steam. But this can work with both steam and oculus store. You would need oculus link cable if you have oculus quest 1 or 2 and either steam and oculus bought beatsaber version and not the quest store version

Nope it does not. Mods do not work on consoles and it never will unfortunately. Psvr users for beatsaber are simply stuck with whatever the developers put out such as the multiplayer and music pack dlc’s

the opnly problem with this is theres a auto so you not playing if you dont want and can miss a last 9 or little more notes so dont trust "pro" people if they dont show their self :)

I’m not entirely sure though the avatars i have downloaded from bsaber.com they are .avatar file. You might need to save it out as that file from Unity or Blender software.
