And not only that, this is the first headset that doesn't hurt my face due to that design choice, and I think that was the other thing they had in mind when designing it. Think about all the other headsets and how they have thicker material you have to really push up against your face to block out the light, so after some time your face starts hurting. Hey Wood, just wanted to throw in that one benefit for gesture based controls in VR is that they reduce motion sickness! It's helpful because your brain has a physical motion to relate to the motion it sees in the headset. When the motion is caused by something more passive like pushing an analog stick, you're more likely to get sick. Over time you can certainly get used to the latter though.

I don't think it feels cheap. I think the materials and design was intentional to make it light and comfortable. Initially it felt like it put too much pressure on my nose but I soon figured out how to get the headset sitting comfortably. As many others have mentioned I wouldn't bother with the stereo ear buds. Use the Pulse Headset. Also, relative to competitors with this kind of hardware, its not expensive. I'm glad they went for a higher end hardware and higher cost. I wouldn't have bothered with it otherwise. The quest 2 isn't really the same market in my opinion. Although I've tried various VR headsets I've never bought into it because the price, hardware and game availability wasn't where I wanted it. PSVR2 ticks my boxes with price and hardware so I'm going to support it and hopefully the games will come. I also hope the product is successful so we get more VR games across all hardware.

The playstation vr (and now 2) is the most forward-pushing and revolutionary headset you can buy. They are changing the entire market and the future of VR. It's a well-worth purchase and I highly recommend getting it because they are bringing top-quality games to it and will continue to make them. In all reality, software updates and the games make a VR headset real, not the hardware. Although the hardware is very good, the games make the price very bearable.

The PSVR2 actually feels like a premium product, if you watch the official PSVR2 breakdown video they dismantle the whole headset into its constituent parts, its a miracle of engineering and weighs less than the original 2016 PSVR, I am glad Sony built this headset because if one of the big PCVR or Meta HMD manufacturers produced it they would be asking a lot more money for it, just look at the $1500 Quest Pro for instance and that does not even have OLED-HDR displays.

@@scottd7222 That is the thing, and then they also bemoan the fact that it has a cable connected to the PS5, but they do not tell us how big of a battery they would be willing to except in a wireless PSVR2 that could power it for meaningful lengths of play time before a recharge is required, it would need to be a very powerful battery. Then there is the unknown effects of attaching a high powered wireless streaming VR headset to your head for several hours while you play a game streamed from the PS5, there is still a thing about holding mobile phones to your head for long periods of time, I just think a thin cable tethered to the headset is the best and safest option until battery technology makes a big leap forward.
@BeatsbyVegas Жыл бұрын
@@techinfusions NON IONIZING RADIATING IS SAFE. Aka wifi signals and other radio signals. The real reason for the cable is because you just cant pump a 4k image at 120 FPS with HDR and all the data about the position of the controllers, headset, eye tracking, etc through wireless. I mean you could technically run some VR headsets wireless, but you really need god tier wifi and even then you will suffer from compressed video signals that won’t look as nice. Most people wouldn’t have the wifi infrastructure to support even a blocky, artifacty video signal. Sony wants to make sure everyone has a good baseline level of experience and thats why I believe they went wireless. Battery Is easy to solve, as you can add a battery to get 2 hours or so of battery life that doesn’t take up much space or weigh a lot, and because its VR most people have to take a break after 30 minutes to an hour anyway. So real reason for cable is to send all that high resolution video at 120 frames per second with no latency.

@@BeatsbyVegas The wi-fi infrastructure in your house is irrelevant since the VR headset will only communicate with the PS5. All that matters is the wi-fi speed between the PS5 and the headset. PS5 has a a latest wi-fi chip that is better than Xbox but is debatable if that would have been enough. With HD only it would but don't know about 4k etc. It will probably need wi-fi 7 for that. I think a big issue is the battery. It will limit your time, add a hassle for you since you have to charge it, add to the cost and add to the weight as well. The issues with going wireless are much more than the hassle of tolerating that one cable so Sony went with the cable.

I feel conflicted with it. On one hand, it's worth the price of admission just for Resident Evil: Village(It's THAT incredible, with Moss: Book 2 coming in second place for me personally.), including the upcoming Resident Evil 4: VR Mode, possible Astro Bot Rescue mission sequel(or port) etc. But i just can't get past being tethered to a cable in 2023. It's that immersion breaking barrier that practically destroys stand up VR imo. That, and it's using a high persistence display. Meaning, in order to get decent brightness it sacrifices motion clarity. The higher you raise the VR brightness slider the more head movement motion blur you'll get, which is the last thing you wan't in VR. We're supposed to be preventing motion sickness, not creating it. Quest 3 has a 1ms persistence(Zero motion blur) at at least 100nits, which spanks what the PSVR2 is cooking. For best motion clarity on PSVR2, drop the VR brightness down to zero, you'll get a 2ms persistence @60nits. Won't be viable for most people though since the image is too dim and bleak at that setting. The 4th point gets you to 110nits, comparable to Quest 2, but with noticeably more head movement blur with PSVR2. Double edged sword. I think most people will be able to find a happy medium though. I also can't stand the bulky cumbersome ring'd controllers, small sweet spot, chunky fat front visor and it's not as comfortable as the PSVR1 either. it's a little front-heavy or harsh around the nose, you'll start to really feel it at about 30 minutes. Sony shot themselves in the foot with this thing, aesthetically, and when it comes to some of it's feature/design choices. We already need a revision, stat!. :P Here's what I'd like to see > Wireless to PS5 connection Slimmer/flatter front visor Pancake lenses for wide sweet spot Ring-less VR Quest 3-like controllers Micro-OLED display boasting a 1ms persistence @110nits+ More comfortable (Around nose area)

Yeah definitely doesnt seem like enough of a difference to justify the massive increase in price from quest 2. especially since steam vr library is so much bigger
@thomaskast7842 Жыл бұрын
@@Ethos10128 Well, if you also count the SteamVR library you also have to account for the cost of a VR capable PC, which in itself will cost more than 1000$, combine that with a 400$ Quest 2 and now you're paying 1400$, 400$ more than a PSVR setup
@Ethos10128 Жыл бұрын
@@thomaskast7842 A VR ready PC only cost $1000 if you don't know how to shop, and im more talking about the people who already have PCs. Plus PCs have ALOT more uses than a PS5 on top of gaming + VR gaming. And on top of that being able to get custom content in alot of VR games adds ALOT of value to those games, beatsaber, pavlov being a couple good examples. and then even on top of that, you can torrent games on PC potentially cutting the cost of games down to $0 from the PS5s insane price tags. Or you can buy CD keys for steam at heavily discounted prices. Also no PSplus for online play It may be slightly more on entry but in the long run you save ALOT

You don’t have to use the earbuds. You can use any wireless/wired audio device. $550 for the PSVR2 is a steal compared to other VRs when you factor in the price for a PC and PS5 into the equation.

The most impressive PSVR1 feature was the vast library. It was an absolute outlier in VR. The sheer lack of content *at launch* for PSVR2 is sincerely baffling, notably with the ubiquity of cross-VR-platform content we've seen even in the few years since the PSVR1 & the PSVR2. Bottom line, if it was "mostly" backwards compatible, I'd be insisting on people buying it. By contract, we still can't even test to see if a HOTAS joystick works on PSVR2 as there is somehow no flight sim of any kind at launch (note No Man's Sky is functional as a flight sim in VR but does not support a HOTAS by design, rather than by a hardware limitation).

With the Psvr2 gaming feels fresh and exciting again for me. Already had a Psvr1 so my motion sickness already disappeared long ago. Absolutely have a blast playing Resident Evil Village and GT7. Also have a lot of fun with Call of the mountain, Pavlov and Kayak vr. For the price it is definitely worth it especially compared to the other vr headsets with similar specs (which are much more expensive).

You should give Moss: Book 2 a chance, it's another brilliant VR show case and probably my second favorite PSVR2 title next to Resident Evil Village, which is the number one reason to own a PSVR2, and the same thing will probably apply to the upcoming Resident Evil 4: VR Mode. Incredible stuff, Capcom out did themselves. My only beef with it, is that it doesn't run at 90fps since the PS5 just isn't powerful enough. Maybe the PS5 Pro can get the job done, once it releases in winter 2024. For now, we have to deal with the dreaded motion duplication effect from 60 reprojection. And I wish they'd port over 'Ocean Descent' from PSVR Worlds on PSVR1(Shark dive was amazing and an absolute blast to show off to friends and family. PSVR2 doesn't seem to have any theme park VR-like attractions unfortunately.) . An Astro Bot Rescue Mission port would be also fantastic, including Half Life Alex and Resident Evil 7.

So the reason smooth turning made you feel sick in CotM is because that game uses reprojection. It only targets 60FPS which is very low for VR and relies on reprojection to make it feel like its running at a higher FPS. This makes actions like turning much more nausea inducing, so smooth turning in a game like that would male anyone sick.

I love your content man, but this review felt kind of... off? Idk, I know your main point was the lack of on board audio, but saying the audio is terrible because of the included in ears it felt kind of mean spirited. Also, for those specs the price is extremely competitive, I think it was kind of wrong to compare it the Quest, when it's supposed to compete with more high end headsets (e.g: The Index and the Vive). The other stuff (how you felt unconfortable with it and the kind of stuff) are valid points, kind of subjective but pretty nice to take into account. Anyways, I love your stuff man, keep doing what you do.

I think for the audio it’s only a personal preferences. For me, I much prefer those earbuds than external speakers on the device. I even bought something similar to that for my Quest 2. I also had the same earbuds setup for my PSVR and never had any issues. And regarding the quality of the headset, from what I heard its better than PSVR and that one was amazing quality wise. As a big VR user, you want manufacturers to use the lightest plastic they can get for their VR headset as the lightest it is, the better it will be for longer sessions.

I'll agree with you that the headset feels a bit cheap compared to other headsets (even the OG PSVR), but I think that's to cut down on weight. I agree on the audio as well. As much as I see it as a neat little solution physically, I hate in ear solutions and liked the speaker solution on the quest 2. The pulse ear phones do really fit well with the headset though (and they're wireless), but of course that's more money. The tech inside the headset is not cheap by any means - if you were to buy the eye tracking on it's own, it would set you back over $200. So, add to that the OLED displays, the haptics in both the headband and the controllers (which would/will probably be well over $100 on their own) and suddenly it doesn't look so expensive. Just a recommendation for the halo headband, you said it's hurting your head, which would indicate to me that you're tightening it too much........which is understandable considering your long hair. My daughter had real problems getting the headset to stay in the right position (especially with the sweet spot being so narrow on this headset) until I told her to try putting the back of the headband under her long hair. It was a bit fiddly to start with (putting her hair through the band before her head) but it solved the problem completely and she hardly had to tighten it at all. The easier alternative would of course be to have a high pony tail and put the back of the headband under it (it looked like you had a little pony tail at one point in the video, but the back of the headband was above it)
@Vore-tex Жыл бұрын
The ear buds aren't required to play. You can actually use any plug in headset. I would personally use the Pulse 3D audio headset as that would give the same 3D audio that is in the ear buds, but will be significantly more comfortable.

I had the same problem of the rubber rubbing my brow and causing pain. I then seen this recommendation for the halo strap on the PSVR2 on another channel. The back of the halo strap should be placed at the base of the back of your skull where your skull meets your neck. if you do this the weight/pressure is spread across you forehead instead on your brow. Also the earbuds store into those star cutouts on the halo strap.

I don't think 600 USD is overpriced. Quest 2 was under-priced and they were losing money on each headset. Where they make money was software and selling your data, as is Meta's main business, so 300 USD for a headset should not be a benchmark. For 600 USD PSVR brings loads of value IMO

Even being an opinion video, well done. But at 5:18 you can put the heads of the earbuds into the round spots on both sides of the headset and looks for a round circle with a Y in the center where you pull the headset apart to put on your head. You can store your earbuds in there, that way they are out of the way if you want to use other headsets. Besides that, those earbuds sound so much better than the $200 set of headsets I got now and I probably own around 7 or 8 different kinds of headsets and the ones that come with the PSVR2 were made to be used by the PSVR2. That's why they sound so much better. I mean the plastic is around the face is flimsy but when on your head it is very comfortable. Still a good opinion video Edit: That's if you haven't figured it out yet. I realize that this video is a month old.
