Go for it! VR is a blast! But don't be like Kyle. The way he tried pushing through motion sickness is the worst thing to do. There are a bunch of games that almost anyone can play comfortably which is where VR newcomers should start (Beat Saber, Moss 1 and 2, The Room VR: A Dark Matter, Tetris Effect Connected, Puzzling Places, Job/Vacation Sim, and Tentacular to name a few). I have a longer comment on this video where I go through this in more detail if you're curious and can find it. If you want to jump into the deep end with games like Resident Evil 8 or 4 Remake, Horizon, Star Wars, or Gran Turismo 7, there are ways to ease yourself into them where you're less likely to feel sick (use comfort options like click/snap turning, it's what they're there for). If you do feel sick, take a break as soon as you feel symptoms and only start again when you're feeling better. That usually only takes a few minutes or even seconds if you catch it quick enough, but if you're really vulnerable it can be longer. But even if you do feel sick, you can get used to VR after a while as long as you take breaks when necessary. Eventually it stops being a problem entirely. Oh and it helps a lot to have a fan blowing on you while you play. Seems weird, but it can help prevent motion sickness. Hope this helps! PSVR 2 already has over 200 games on it, and Kyle didn't even play the best ones in this video. The youtube channel Without Parole has a fairly recent Top 25 list if you want to see the best the system has to offer.

And when their limits are found, recommend a bunch of good games they could play without issue, and invite them back to push their limits in the future. @@robertchant9627 It's great that the price drop will encourage more console owners to check out VR, and that now it has the PCVR library as an option for owners as well (despite the limitations of the adapter). Especially as there doesn't seem to be any indicator of a PSVR3 on the horizon. It's 1.5 years since the PSVR2 was released (and released to a price point) though, and it's not like VR technology has stood still. For that matter PSVR2 wasn't pushing technology when it was brand new, with the resolution bump being offset by the use of fresnel lenses and a return to pentile subpixel array instead of sticking with the RGB stripe and aspheric lenses of the PSVR1. The idea that the PSVR2 is the "most advanced" mainstream VR headset is just a ridiculous comment. It's great that it offers eyetracking, inside out tracking, oled displays and better haptics at the (now reduced) price point, but it's not really advancing headset technology.

I completely disagree. I was so psyched for PSVR2 that I preordered one before I even bought a PS5 and after having it for a while... I sold it once I got the Quest 3. The Quest 3 is just way more comfortable and way more clear as well as having a wider field of view. Yes, the graphics aren't as good, but ultimately I couldn't go back. And Sony made me not regretful by not supporting the thing. If ever they support it, I may get one again. But as for now, Quest 3 is the best headset by leaps and bounds, in my opinion.

Start with something static and not a lot of movement, and as soon as you start feeling any kind of bad, quit the session for a bit before starting up again. If you push ut too much you can make yourself sick for days and at worst your mind will make an association with vr as something bad that makes you sick, which will make it harder to get your mind acclimated and used to accepting longer vr play sessions. Both have a free VR mod you can download when you own the game. They're both amazing :-)

I mean... any "ramifications" are PURELY on a person-by-person basis. I played all of those games and suffered NO "ramifications" at all. I say this frequently, but you know what else made people sick when they first came out and people wouldn't shut up about it? First Person Shooters. When Wolfenstein and Doom came out, there were tons of people always whining about how they couldn't play "those types of games" and how it made them sick. ... like, okay. Great. The rest of us don't really want to hear about how you can't play a game. Don't play it. The world shouldn't change or put warnings on everything just because YOU personally can't play a game. (I'm talking to a fictional person I've invented, not anyone in particular.) Eventually everyone got over talking bout how FPS made people sick and we alll moved on. Now almost nobody talks about it beeches it's a personal issue not worth public time.

the car simulators are advanced level vr , give yourself some time, It took me 1 week to get comfortable with vr when I got my psvr1 back in 2017... I almost died playing resident evil 7 as I was pushing myself to play more and more over my comfort levels. The trick is to take it slow over 1 week , play every day longer and longer until you feel comfortable... ginger helps, a fan blowin air so you don't feel hot also helps... and never push it to the point of feeling super sick, or you will create a rejection. it's worth it investing time to get use to it... once you have VR legs you can play 6h sessions, I've done gaming sessions on psvr2 for Resident evil 4 until my controllers died without battery.

I borrowed psvr2 for a week last december and was blown away with the star wars game and I'm not surprised by your reactions. The haptic feedback and the visuals - when you experience this for the first time, the immersion is really mind blowing. Maybe my memory on this is wrong but the way I remember things is that you can set how you move in game. You have different options : move via laser, move using buttons on the pads or move with hand gestures. Maybe you could try the other options other than moving by pad buttons. I tried that and got immediately sick af, while other two options worked without a problem and I could play as long as the pad batteries lasted. I hope sony brings the discount to EU as well - I'm definitely on the lookout for that. 350$ is a crazy good price for such a product.

I think the problem with that transformer game is the framerate seemed to be hovering in the low 20s, when really VR needs framerates above 60, ideally something like 90. Such low framerates taking up your entire field of view are gonna make you sick very quickly.

This was fun to watch. For anyone watching this who wants to buy a PSVR 2 with no regret, some tips: 1) If you're new to VR, take some steps to avoid/mitigate motion sickness. A lot of people don't get motion sick, but here are some suggestions just in case: - It helps to have a fan blowing on you while you play as this keeps you cool, gives you a sense of your real world direction, and grounds your body in reality just a bit. - If you do feel symptoms (nausea, dizziness, sweating unjustifiably), STOP PLAYING. Take a break until you feel better. If you try to push through like Kyle was doing, that'll only make things worse, both in the immediate and long run. Depending on how susceptible you are to motion sickness (and how early you caught symptoms), recovering could range from a few seconds to (in very extreme cases) a few hours. You could take off the headset and do something else, or switch to more comfortable VR games (see below). Over time as you get used to VR, you'll be able to play longer and recover faster until eventually motion sickness just won't be an issue for you. - It's a good idea to start with games that don't move you artificially (Beat Saber, Moss 1 and 2, The Room VR: A Dark Matter, Tetris Effect Connected, Puzzling Places, Job/Vacation Sim, Tentacular, etc.) as those games don't really make anyone sick. - A step up from that are games where you can move or teleport at your own pace (Paper Beast, No Man's Sky creator mode, Red Matter 1, The 7th Guest VR, Kayak VR but enable boat stabilization and don't try the Norway storm level), strategy games (Little Cities: Bigger, A Townsman's Tale, Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game), or games that auto scroll (Pistol Whip, Rez Infinite, The Dark Pictures Switchback VR though it's a bit fast, Horizon Call of the Mountain's boat ride). - When you're comfortable with those experiences, you can jump into games where you can move freely and get into combat (Star Wars: TftGE, Horizon CotM, Resident Evil Village and 4 Remake, Red Matter 2, The Walking Dead games, Hubris, Madison VR, etc.) or faster games like Gran Turismo 7. - Whenever you're moving up to a more intense game for the first time, it's a good idea to try using the comfort settings which most games provide. Snap turning in particular is highly recommended at first. - If you want to jump straight into GT7 or the RE games, there are steps you can take to ease into them. For GT7, pick cars that are more enclosed and slower (open top F1 cars and go-carts are the roughest). Start in a practice mode on a fairly flat course going at moderate speeds and see how you feel. Also, limit how much you're looking side to side at first, as that's more likely to cause you issues. You can ramp up speed, the car type, and the complexity of the course as your comfort dictates. Some people can just do whatever right away, others need to build up to the more extreme stuff. - For games like RE where you can walk around freely, as I stated before, I'd recommend using the comfort options available at least initially. Settings like snap turning will let most people enjoy the game right away. But if you want the most immersive experience possible without the broken immersion of vignettes and snap-turning, you can condition yourself to get used to things like smooth turning in VR. Go to a safe place (the starting tutorial area for the VR mode is perfect), and enable smooth turning. Do it for a split second then stop and see how you feel. You'll probably feel a bit weird but recover quickly. If you do this repeatedly, turning for longer durations as you become more comfortable (but making sure to fully recover between attempts), it will help condition you to VR fairly fast. However if the recovery time you need is increasing rather than decreasing, you need to take a break for a while. 2) Only get good games. Check reviews from channels focused on VR. This should be general practice at this point, but it's especially important in VR. The VR industry is basically being carried by indie studios at the moment, and while some of them are putting out really great games, others are not (just like with flat gaming). It's more important in VR because if a game doesn't perform well on a technical level it can contribute to motion sickness. It helps to look for games that run at higher native framerates rather than using reprojection. Games like Red Matter 1 and 2, Ancient Dungeon, the Moss games, Madison VR, The Walking Dead games, Song in the Smoke, and The Light Brigade (among others) run at 90fps minimum and are more smooth and comfortable than games that use reprojection (Horizon CotM, the RE games, GT7, and others). For a great list of the best games on PSVR 2, the KZbin channel Without Parole has a fairly recent top 25 list, as well as great reviews that will usually mention framerate/reprojection, as well as a bunch of other useful info. 3) Look for demos, keep an eye on sales, and try genres you normally don't like. Gaming in VR is different than flat gaming. Some genres you wouldn't care about in the slightest if they were flat can actually be really fun in VR. If there's a demo, try it out. If a game has high reviews but isn't normally the sort of thing you'd play, keep an eye out for a deep sale. Many VR games go on sale for dirt cheap if you wait long enough, which makes taking a gamble on something outside your wheelhouse more plausible. Ideally Sony would have a decent refund policy, but they don't, so obviously be careful. PSVR 2 has a lot of great games and there's a lot of fun to be had with it. But like any VR headset, it's possible you won't feel comfortable jumping right into the most intense experiences. Even if you have issues with motion sickness, there's great games you can play comfortably, and you'll get more acclimatized to VR the longer you play. Hopefully these tips help out some new users.
@juu2263 ай бұрын
I would add for starters: close your eyes whenever you feel discomfort especially when falling down and do not use smooth turning option, snap turn is much more brain-eyes comfortable. Any discomfort will pass after some number of hours of adaptation when you pass that you can do whatever you want in VR without any sickness.

I've never really tried VR before except one time where I played with someone's Quest 2 for like 20 minutes. I got intensely sick trying the roller coaster game and was nauseous all day, so I'm hoping I can get passed it. I never thought I'd be susceptible to it. I'll use the tips you provided to ease myself in, thanks a lot for this!🎉

@@MasDouc Nice! Really hope it helps you out. 🍻 Since you have a history of experiencing motion sickness, I'd recommend playing seated whenever possible, and sticking to the most comfortable games I listed for a while. You could probably also play games like 7th Guest VR and Paper Beast, as long as you're using teleportation and click/snap turning. And remember to take breaks. It's going to take some time before you can play most games comfortably, but you should be able to gradually expand the games you can play with a bit of patience and persistence. There will likely be some discomfort along the way, but hopefully nothing nearly as bad as that first experience you had. I hope you enjoy your headset. If you have any questions or issues, or want more game recommendations, feel free to reply to this message and I'll help as best I can.

Kyle, you haven't made me this happy since I rediscovered your youtube channel after the gametrailer days 🥲. Take my word for it, not just because I'm a cat (but that should be enough), but also because I know VR inside out: Tip 1: if you want to get over sim sickness, the trick is never play more than you can handle. Take it slow, in a few weeks you'll be good to go. People acclimate at different speeds, but everyone acclimates. Also, a fan facing you helps until acclimation. Tip 2: in Horizon you had blinders on. This is something to help with sim sickness. But it's ugly. I suggest turning it off in settings and just playing as much as you can handle. BTW this is a feature in most VR games, so always check options. And don't turn on smooth turning until you're acclimated. And when you do, always make the turn speed maximally fast. Tip 3: Not all games cause sim sickness. It only happens if your body is moving in game but not out of game. So pick your games accordingly. Tip 4: PSVR subreddit is your friend. If you got questions about games, or something happening, check there. Tip 5: You probably heard the nonsense of 'there are no games'. I have 60 of them. Haven't played them all yet, there's more I want to buy, and more on the horizon. And I'm not a kid, I've been gaming since '86. You just gotta know the library. Here's a starter pack across genres, more on psvr subreddit: Shooters: Pavlov (PvP), Synapse (roguelite), Pistol Whip (music rhythm). Puzzle: Red Matter 1 and 2, Tetris Effect (sounds counterintuitive, but really, only LSD is better), 7th guest. Adventure: Moss Book 1 and 2 (3rd person cuteness), Vertigo 2 (amazing indie sci-fi), Legendary Tales (amazing soulslike). Sports: Gran Turismo 7 (it's to die for, and I hate cars and racing), Walkabout Minigolf (looks simple, but best game ever with online friends), VR skater. Horror: Resident Evil (Village & 4), Walking dead Saints & Sinners 1 & 2, Switchback (on-rails horror shooter). Okay enough! Enjoy :)
@maynardburger3 ай бұрын
All largely good advice, though I will say not everybody acclimates. Motion sickness is something that is extremely individual in how it affects people, and some simply will never get their VR legs. Similarly, different types of motion/games will affect people differently. It's not entirely predictable.

There are a lot of fantastic games on the PSVR2 now, I can see a lot of comments here recommending the top ones you should be going for (Resident Evil, GT7, Moss book 1 & 2, Synapse, Walkabout mini golf), but do try to ease yourself into VR gaming. With the look on your face, I was impressed you held out as long as you did. You should be trying as many VR games as possible where you don't move first (such as Beatsaber & Zombieland), just to get completely used to interacting with a stereoscopic display method......that in itself is enough to make some people get nauseous in seconds (as we're basically raised on single flat screen interaction from the crib these days)

For the 4th game, I think you should have picked either Synapse or Red Matter 2 or Resident Evil 4 Remake (free VR Mode add-on) or Gran Turismo 7 depending on which of those appeal to you and then I'd wager you would have ended with 0 Regrets. The Transformers game has visual spectacle of watching big robots fighting each other as you pew-pew insecticons and dodge / block incoming fire in an on-rails arcade style shooter that will give you finger-fatigue (my main issue with that game), but it isn't why people should get the system. Lastly, if you are new to VR, it can take some time for your brain to acclimatize and then you will be able to play longer sessions without any adverse feeling like vertigo, motion sickness, or headaches. For something like Beat Saber, I started like you sweaty and needing to stop at 20 minutes even playing easier difficulty, but now I can go 45+ minutes on expert before I am sweating too much to continue. Enjoyed your video even though I don't like the video title and avoided clicking on it for a few days even as YT algorithm kept recommending it. Cheers
