There's a UK TV show called, 'The Repair Shop' where old school craftsmen and women restore and repair the public's cherished heirlooms, using traditional methods . You're work strongly reminds me of this. What a brilliant restoration and head badge.

Hi Del, loving the innuendos you slipped in there, mate! Superb transformation of that rusty bike, looks wonderful at the end resplendent with a unique hand-crafted badge! Top job mate! :O)

Mark! Thank you for taking the time to watch this experiment. The truth is that I had done this before, more successfully, with a blowtorch to repeatedly anneal the copper. I was pretty surprised that it worked at all, and I confess that I feel a bit guilty for not knowing why a heat'n'quench cycle will harden steel but soften copper. Handy to know, though. I wonder what it would do to ally? Well, it'd melt it, obviously, but if some loon just chucked a blob of red-hot liquid aluminium into a bathtub of water, would the ally be any harder or softer? I'm glad you like the results of my effort to save the bike. I only did it because I felt sorry for it, really, but now it really looks quite pretty. And the step-thru design is kind to my right hip.

Excellent work Del. That bike looked so much better for your restoration & new badge. A very limited production run of the Del bicycle range.

Hello, Guy! I wish I could have found that old bronze coin. I think it had writing in an Indian-style script on it, and some sort of heraldic beast. Still, it amazed me that I got away with making the badge without annealing the copper a few times during the bashing process. Now that the bike's so posh-looking, I live in fear of it getting stolen, something I hadn't considered before I did it up!

@@Del350K4 I sympathize with your dilema. I built a bike just for going to the shops. I used a rough but cheap second hand frame from ebay & some decent parts I had in stock to make an effective but rubbish looking bike. Just to reduce the likelihood of it being pilfered. You shouldn't have done such a decent build...! 😁

Very nice work Del. Always love seeing things created out of basically rubbish. Keep 'em coming man.

Hello, Rob, and belated birthday good wishes! I do wish I had been able to find the old bronze coin I'd intended to use, but the wine bottle label did the trick in the end. I've sort of smeared clear epoxy over it in hopes that it'll act like varnish and stop it peeling off. Cheers! Del

Hello, Derek! Thank you so much for watching - I hoped you would. I now have four bicycles, which I think is nearly enough and my wife thinks is three too many. I just go for two (or, often, one) 6 Mike rides a day to combat a recent and regrettable tendency towards chubbiness. One day I'd like to graduate to actual journeys, like your epic 80-mile trip to the beach. It would be nice if I could persuade my wife to join me, but she says she gets quite enough exercise at the gym. This lady's bicycle is handy for when my hip doesn't want me to swing my leg over a seat - I can just step through it. I was surprised at how well the badge worked, given that I had imagined myself annealing the copper every few minutes. It did tear a little towards the top.

Hey, Duke! I wasn't sure it would work without softening the copper so I was happy with the way the badge looked. And I'm glad I saved that old bike.

Your voice went a bit croaky in the middle of this video Del. I can't decide if it's caused by over-exposure to strippers, which whilst fun can leave your head spinning in more ways than one, or possibly you were trembling in fear... in case you good lady came home and caught you using the oven to anneal copper, rather than cook a romantic supper. Either way, another masterpiece performed amid the ambience of chickens and, I could be wrong, a peacock...?
