To be fair, killing the Cataphract would be a lot more difficult if half your AC fell off every time you took a hit and Walter was too cheap to restock your repair kits between missions. Clearly losing three Hounds in a single assignment was what spurred Walter to actuall pay his repair bills. Heh.

He probably thought since all 3 of them were sent on this mission things would go well but it was the PCA and that Cataract came outta nowhere, those things are way faster than you think btw. Interesting that each of the ACs filled their own little tactical niche. 617's loadout is suited for close range assaults, 619 is set up for long-range bombardment, and 620 was given a little too much Coral in their implants.

They too were "Augmented" But well the comparison stinks anyway considering a decent player can pretty much slaughter even the most elite pilots (canonwise) without much effort putting 621 leagues above even the most elite pilots. Kicking the player out of the equation and comparing those 3 to pretty much any other trio of AC pilots in the game, they did a damn good job.

The surgeon says that 621 can only really pilot an AC, can’t talk to move. I don’t know how the other’s were, but I can only imagine they were in better shape. If they were in better shape then it’s possible they weren’t as connected and dependent on their machines as 621 was, which would then lead into the “will of the machine” phenomenon that Armored Core has shown off. So basically it’s a mix of skill issue and also having weak wills

617 had nothing but a minigun by the time the fight with the Cataphract actually started. They lost the shield and pulse blade before it showed up, and it knocked the spread Bazooka off when it jumped over. 617 won by tanking a ram, actually stopping the Cataphract and jamming the only gun left straight into the weak spot, no lube. 619 got 1 shotted before even getting that far because they stayed on target to destroy the first wave of defenses, and couldn't dodge in time. 620 was a skill issue though. They got there in 1 piece and then got obliterated. I also don't know why they were running a laser rifle on a Joso. Would have been better off with a linear rifle.

As 621, I think the assumption that "you got lucky" has a strong case; it's not until 621 is connected with Ayre that he gains a tactical advantage over other Augmented Humans. Ayre's presence is like having another set of "eyes and ears"; sort of how the voices that Senua hears (in Senua's Sacrifice) alert Senua to attacks from behind in the combat sequences. So, 621 is god-tier because of Ayre and to Walter, 621 is just another body to throw into his war against the resurgence of Coral. 621 Just happens to 'appear' exemplary because nobody knows of Ayre until later on.

Good thing there's no physics for left-right weight balance because 617's AC would've been limping to the right all day long. Also, I love how the cataphract goes "holy crap, this isn't Raven! Everything I know is wrong! Help!" And his HQ just goes "Yeah, that's not him. Different AC." Like...no shit, really? A completely different pilot in a completely different AC using completely different tactics and weapons who is KICKING MY ASS, and all you can say is "Yup, definitely not him." THANKS, HQ! It's always made me laugh that In a game where we change parts like we change socks, the people are all "Wait. That's not the same AC!" They can field armies, navies, experimental AI weapons and satellites that can nuke us from orbit but they're surprised when we bring a different gun? XD

That might not be a regular occurance for pilots. Like, Rusty keeps the same AC until he leave Arquebus, similar with Iguazu, and possibly Nightfall Raven too. Maybe that's what separates us and Freud from the rest, what makes us "so special". We have the shop, and oh boy are we gonna use it. (Freud is said to be constantly making improvements to his sorties, I assume that means adjusting his AC as well) It did make Carlas "You were made for each other" comment weird tho, like, I've Ship of Theseused my AC multiple times by this point.

It only reinforces her message in my book because that's the AC configuration that you settled on throughout the story after getting more than a few of the deadliest pilots and weapons under your belt just on Rubicon alone. Whatever it was at that point, it clearly works very well with you and your style if you just won a 2v1 AC duel and an intense fight against the Ibis with it (at least, if we want to completely ignore starting from checkpoints with different assemblies as story probably does)

My best guess is that some AC pilots are known for their recognisable AC that they dont change for branding reasons (alot easier to land jobs if everyone knows about you) while others adjust their AC to the job and get a name through fighting-style or shear brutal efficiency.

I think canon-wise most people can only afford the parts for one AC with some variations in loadout. Remember Nosaac I think is in extreme debt because he keeps buying parts he can't afford. So PCA were expecting a fairly cheap RaD shitbox AC like Nightfall and got a fully tuned and optimised death machine with whatever 621 is piloting.

It can be seen firing constantly throughout the trailer. It can be hard to see, due to the editing of the trailer, but you can see the laser desintegrate 219, followed by COM saying "219: vital signs lost" as the Eye-laser fizzles out. Don't know where the Watchpoint turret comes in throughout all of this

To be fair the reality we see in the story trailer is a lot harsher than the game implies, 617s pulse shield got taken down with 2 or 3 bullets and lost his sword cause the arm joint got shot off as they sped towards the bullets. While just before getting one tapped 619 completely levels a base with his back rockets (in the game buildings are completely indestructible and are encouraged to be used as cover from rockets). With finally 620 who gets both arms blown clean off with grazing shots from the energy canon on the back of the CATAPHRACT (however those shot in game serve to stagger AT BEST with really you needing to stand still to see severe damage) 617 going for the kill the way they did shoving the gatling in the neck of the CATAPHRACT and dieing from the Core Expansion due to damage was icing on the cake as to how harsh and grim the reality of Armored Core truly is. We could try but we'd get ran over and pushed to the side in game if we tried to match Assault Boosts with the CATAPHRACT let alone stop it and lift it and don't get me started on doing that much damage with any weapon let alone a single gatling even with direct hits from ACS overloads

The first one is you control 617 with a bunch of other 600s, slowly one by one they all get killed off, as soon as they get to the cataphract part of the mission, the trailer plays. Then after the trailer it puts us into illegal entry mission. If they did this it be a lot more impactful and emotional.

The 3 hounds before 621 got filtered by a very fun, yet very predictable and EZ boss. 617, 619, and 620 were losers... Not just for the sake of narrative, but their profound lack of skill. They had a skill issue, they lacked the capacity to use repair kits after sustaining damage (explaining why their AC's were falling apart, their tactics were flawed because they were arrogantly travelling directly toward their target which actively delivered defensive firepower to try and deter or destroy them, and their inadequacies as pilots are what ultimately led to their ruin. 621 is obedient, zealous, motivated, smart, agile, dexterous, and an ace when it comes to piloting. (depending on gamer skill-set ofc, assuming you made it as far as newgame-newgame++. 621 is demonstrably and canonically the greatest AC pilot in all of Rubicon.)

I wonder what happens if you rerun this mission with Raven’s setup. The CATAPHRACT’s pilot mentions your AC doesn’t fit the profile they have for Raven, maybe they’ll say something different

same dialogue. I assume they pick up on it anyways because JP Cataphract says "The form of the engagement does not match what the simulator suggests". It's most likely your piloting style tipping the pilot off since he doesn't say anything about your build being different, only the System does. The System took a while to get back to the pilot so I'd assume it's also advanced enough to pick up on the discrepancy in piloting style.

As a light AC operater who only used the plasma missiles and 2 snub nosed shottys, I say it is a very rewarding and risky way to fight but the amount of stagger that can be dealt puts even the heaviest of AC players in a staggered situation where I dance away, waiting to close again

Nice video bro, I did this before too, its fun to play as the 3 hound before 621, role playing the events as them. Also not that it matters that much but I think 619 had the BML-G1/P07VTC-12 on both shoulder slot tho, both is clearly the same
