Considering the game fully endorses his ridiculous strategies (I still can't get over the man's ridiculous pathing in the first episode) it's also fully willing to match his absurdity blow for blow, I think the game kind of speaks his language. Between the pots, the snowmen, the Godskin bosses (between the fatsuit and the wacky wavy inflatable tube maneuver, I cannot take either seriously), the giant boulders, the giant _sentient_ boulders, and numerous other enemies, you can tell the devteam at Fromsoft got to have some fun with this game.

@@contortionyx It's a glitch where when a bloodstain plays a death of someone dying while riding Torrent, the bloodstain-torrent technically counts as an entity so it dying gives you HP of an enemy dying. It's totally an oversight of some kind, probably because "yeah if multiplayer is active and a bloodstain specifically shows someone riding off a cliff with Torrent" doesn't sound that likely to come up in testing lol

Malenia was fucken ridiculous as a boss. I love her design but jesus christ the combinations of the speed, damage and her healing was nuts. Managed to get her using a maxed out mimic tear and flamberge for bleed. Well done RT, for beating her without needing that bleed cheese like I did lol.

I'm not discounting but mimic tear is generally considered kind of cheese. I personally don't care if people use it and I believe nobody else should care what others use. I didn't use it for my first playthrough cause that is just how I played Dark Souls 1-3. If you look deep enough almost every strategy is kind of cheese. Bleed, frost, heavy poise, magic, etc., which is why I'm not bothered by it. Just kind of was annoying how I wanted ideas on how to avoid certain attacks but literally there was 0 videos of people doing the boss solo which made my solo run a "figure it out lul" against Malenia. Took me like 20 attempts to figure out how to dodge her spin slash move. I can still respect the mimic tear, the boss isn't a complete pushover with it (if not using bleed lmao). TL;DR: people can play how they want and everything in this game is cheese if you look deep enough.

Same here, except using Bloodhound Edge instead of Flamberge, with Pulley Crossbow and Bloodbone Bolts for spamming while she's doing the rot flower attack. And even then it took multiple tries. Honestly, my build has been kind of all over the place though, I didn't focus in the early game and never used the respec option to "fix" it. I never really did figure out how to deal with her Waterfowl Dance move in phase 2, I only beat her because she didn't use it on my final run.

She is very vulnerable to cold. I was playing faith/strenght and icy dragon breath was a life saver for me. Have to agree that she is ridiculously fast. It felt like Im fighting a Sekiro boss, not souls. Also she kinda destroys some build like mine that was oriented on absorbing damage with greatshield, cuz she heals A LOT even if you block 100% of her damage.

Fun Fact: Malenia infected Radahn with the Scarlet Rot, driving him insane in the process. Basically making it so he only runs on pure instinct. He was actually a really sweet guy, he was just trying to fight against the rot.

To be fair to rt talking about how hidden the goddess of rot is. her being hidden is absolutely worth it. It feels insane to discover this shit on your own and find this absolutely wild boss who absolutely curb stomps your ass into hell.

Malenia was an absolute incredible fight. It felt so incredibly satisfying to get the dodge timings down for her attacks, and learning that you can either dodge through her Waterfowl Dance (the "anime" move), or let her heal herself but block the damage with an upgraded shield. While the healing feels cheap at first, she also has almost no poise, and a pretty shallow base HP pool. The phase 2 amps it up to 11, but, at least for me, it never felt unfair. All of her moves are extremely telegraphed (when her prosthetic hand sparks she's doing a heavy attack, for example), and the timings aren't super staggered like some of the other bosses; plus sometimes instead of doing Waterfowl Dance when she goes airborne she can choose to do the downslam into a small rot explosion, which is so incredibly easy to avoid. Congrats on beating her!

Barricade Shield is a godsend. If you have a poker you can out damage the heal while taking no damage.

Try this boss dealing melee 500 damage max per attack, no shield, no parry, no summons, and only dodge roll for evasion and you'll experience how absolutely rng dependant this boss becomes with her waterfowl dance. Run away for the first flurry, dodge into the start of the second flurry and the third flurry is actual rng even when dropping the lock-on and rolling. Its probably one of the worst spammable boss moves I've ever seen in the fromsoft souls games

Reason being is that if you're point blank melee and you swing at her and begin your recovery frames, if she jumps up to do waterfowl that becomes instant death since you won't have enough time to precisely roll during your recovery frames.

To the point i dropped all concept of using co-op and just used my mimic, with the key thing in my head being "if that chucklefuck can beat her with 2 unga bunga blades and a rereleased tod howard, i can certainly beat her...after enough deaths."

The fact that you beat Malenia with General Radahn swords really is some poetic justice. For those who don't know the story of the game, Radahn was pretty much the ''Big Good'' in the Elden Ring world who was keeping a world-ending threat at bay until he and Malenia fought in the desert. Then Malenia, when she realized that she couldn't beat him, just nuked him with scarlet rot and left. The rot then made Radahn go insane and feral.

Spoiler: After beating Radagon and married his daughter, Todd Howard re-spec into magic build to be able to use the moon greatsword he got from his now-wife and cast moon-themed sorceries and some other random spells. Suffice to say it didn't go well... Maybe he'll respec again on the next stream, or go on with his magic build just for the lulz

Malenia is such a fantastic boss. The music is beautiful, the cutscenes leading into each part of the fight are really cool with her attaching her arm. Even the arena looks great. Plus her designs in both phases are absolutely stunning. The wings in phase two look amazing.

It took me over 40 attempts to beat Malenia. She’s definitely the hardest boss in Elden Ring. Maybe even top 5 in all of Souls.

@@TrashPanda90914 Isshin, like most Sekiro bosses, is possible to memorize and do in your sleep. Maybe the same applies to Malenia, but she has those cheesy poise dashes that beat out slower weapons, numerous ways to catch rolls, and it's entirely visually unclear how to roll her Waterfowl Dance. If anything, I struggled with the dream Owl (Father) more, that guy is just scummy.

I find it odd that Malenia(Blade of Miquella) has never known defeat, yet she's basically stuck in a tree, has lost all but one arm and half a leg, and is so scarred up she can strip and still not be considered indecently nude. Those must have been some... interesting victories.

The implication is also that Radahn was about to defeat her, but she was so terrified of losing any bit of her pride that she instead released the rot within her(the thing that was eating away at her flesh and scarred her so, not actual battle scars), plaguing half the world in rot and leaving her enemy nothing but a husk. Her greatest “victory” was actually the biggest L for anyone.
