I'm 31, top gear overdrive was the FIRST game I ever played in my life as a kid in the 90s. Til this day it is one of the most fun racing games i've ever played, and the soundtrack is good too. Amazing memories for this one.

But, every N64-game was playtested by Nintendo's own Super Mario Club, from start to finish, so rest assured that it's indeed possible to build seven wonders by a hand job. LOL!

I commend you for fighting through this one. I picked up this game as a kid and convinced myself it was great but deep down I knew it wasn't lol. The cheat codes helped me unlocked the weird cars. I'd always race as the, hot dog, the taco, or the Nintendo Power Jeepster Concept car

cheat codes were such a huge part of gaming culture to me back in the day. if it wasn't one you found in a magazine, or heard at school, you would spend all night trying to find the best ones for the games you had. it would be the only reason you put a game back in the console after months of it setting on a shelf, and it would be a gamble if it was any good or if it worked at all. you eventually found a good one that you had to show all the neighborhood kids. like playing duke nukem death matches where some were giant and some were tiny, then you'd argue who had god mode on. cheat codes added so much replayablity into games, and they should bring that back as a standard.

The Top Gear games started on the SNES. But I played "Top Gear 2" on Sega Genesis, Co-Op split screen with my dad & its one of the major bonding moments we had when I was a pretty young kid. So when I heard the series was coming to N64, I was dying to play it and do the same stuff, but I hated Top Gear Rally & not sure if I played this version.

This game was a huge part of my childhood! I used to visit my mom and stepdad on the weekends when I was in elementary school, and him and I would beat this game sometimes in one night, or at least stay up until one of us literally passed out 😂 we got so good that we could fly though all the shortcuts on all of the maps with the exception of the beach. The beach shortcut that teleports you across the map was hard to hit consistently. Seeing you spend money on leveling your bug made me crack up because we realized after a few playthroughs is to get the next car ASAP. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this crash and burn playthrough. It’s extremely hard to pick up and get the feel of how wonky the steering is. Edit: the better you do in this game, the more bonus cars you get. They are all hilarious and whacky. And drive crazy fast

There is some racing game for the N64 that won’t allow you to hit certain obstacles. If there was a fork in the road, it wouldn’t allow to hit the center area dividing the 2 paths. You would be stopped just short of hitting it and moved back 50ft instead. I think it may have been one of the latter installments of the Burnout series but am unsure.

I found this game’s difficulty scaling to be backwards. It starts out STUPID HARD, but slowly gets easier as you unlock more cars.

Funnily enough that's kinda accurate. You need to drive accurately at speed early on to beat the better cars, but as the game progresses the rival cars don't get much faster (i assume the ai can't handle the speed), so the game becomes less about catching up to the cpu and more about controlling your speed and not crashing. It's quite an easy game of you don't just hold down the accelerator, but where's the fun in that
