Hey! You are 100% correct, and this is cheese. The reason we stood in that particular spot was to have him barely on the platform. That way when he stands back up he remains superheated since he's still on the magma

Weird... I had a similar situation with him with a foot in the magma, and he didn't keep the superheated debuff... That was a really hard fight for me. Maybe tactician difficulty is different?

@Babjengi it's really finicky, my lineup varied and that'd why I said to play with it, it usually involved going to somewhere in that circle though. You can see how I just BARELY had grym on the platform for it to work

@@Pheeon dont know if it depends on luck, in my case after the hammer smack he fell right back into lava but wasnt superheated. Well it didnt matter cuz that was my second try just to see how you can kill him with the hammer. Pretty easy to kill him with a party.Had 3 members at the spawn point hitting him with blunt weapons.And another one far away that was attacking last so Grym will be focused on that member.I think he didnt even attack.

That'd take a bit of doing lol, its probably possible as a monk with the mobile feat, but that'd be quite a grind. Hope you enjoyed this nonetheless. I'll probably try a full game solo lonewolf at somepoint so im glad I found this strategy.

I ran to the top of the arena using flight/misty step and just peppered him with arrows in my first playthrough lol. I wasn't intending to cheese it, I just accidentally started the fight before I was planning to long rest. But if he's not gonna have any long range attacks, that's on him lol

I spent the whole game up until that point stashing away every sturdy chest I could find, thinking I could have some sort of use for it later. I also stashed some crates of varying sizes. I used the really big metal ones to form a circle around his spawn point at the bottom since they were the most durable and could withstand the lava. The other sturdy ones were used to make a high wall to cage him in. I built a tower out of the long regular crates nearby in a circular-staircase formation and had Lae'zel stand at the top. She had the tavern brawler feat and I had also collected lots of javelins and random stuff. Tav pulled the lava lever and Astarion and Shadowheart ran support on the mephits while Lae'zel chucked all of the random crap I had been saving up. Worked like a charm! The big guy couldn't figure out how to leave so the only issue was the annoying mephits.

I done alone too just stand at the top and shoot some arrows, and cast illusion magic. doesn't need any npc or friends. without activating the main quest and tour around the map alone I can easily reach lvl 7. LoL without a single sleep. and still in act 1.

Like Zaynah before me suggests, it’s not just this level that you can hit with ranged spell. Any level(maybe buttons?) can activated with ranged spells AND ranged attacks like arrows

Nah you dont, the fight is actually pretty challenging with a full party if you dont know EXACTLY where to stand and how to aggro him. Once you figure Grym out he is easy but Im pretty certain he gave EVERYONE trouble on a first blind PT

How did you get there at level 1, boat crossing triggers cutscene, did you save scum until you landed the rolls? Asking because I played on honor run where I attempted to cheese Adamantine Scale Mail at level 2 and got stuck at Gehk.

Just realized in all the walkthroughs I see he stays perfectly in the lava but for me when he stands up he moves further onto the hammer and loses the lava effect

@SharpArt2010 What difficulty are you on? I know when he gets to a certain threshold of health, he'll move. It may just be that you'll have to do what I did for the third hit to keep him on.

I’m curious is this on tactician ? I did the fight for the first time and got lucky most of my team was bludgeon damaged dealers did not hit the hammer but did knock him down a ton

Yup! Tactician gives Grym 450 HP, the hammer on average does a little less 150, meaning you'll need to get a bit lucky since you need to do at least that much every turn to kill him in three rounds.

I have several times solo, but definitely not nude level 1 no items. I don't think that one is possible without doing one-shot cheese

@@Pheeon Dont know about the oneshot cheese but you can just stand on the ledge above the forge and shoot the lava valve with any ranged attack to trigger the fight. Grym will walk right under the platform which is conveniently also above lava and he cant do anything to you up there. Its tedious but you can kill him with any ranged weapon and a lot of patience this way.

@@smokeychickenwings1038 Thats an item!! Spells dont work well either since they cant hit the valve from the highground and mage hand goes away after several turns. Its probably possible to do some trickery though at that point youd might as well just use the hammer if youre going to that extent.
