Some crab facts for you all. Crabs can regrow lost limbs. If a predator grabs a crab the limb breaks off at a weakness plane and then muscles punch off the fluid loss. It can take 6 molts of the shell to grow the limb completely. There are both true crabs and false crabs. True crabs are the actually crab tree and false crabs are other crustaceans that performed carcinogenisis. Or the act of evolving into the crab form. A group of crabs is called a cast. Crabs can communicate through drumming. They do this to warn of predators.

To my knowledge crabs tend more towards being omnivores. Coconut crabs are infact known to hunt birds

Crabs are actually omnivores! They’ll eat literally anything they can pull bite sized pieces off of. Fun fact: it’s heavily theorized that Amelia Earhart was eaten by coconut crabs on the island she crash landed on, and that’s why her body was never recovered. Also yes, coconut crabs eat plants too. Specifically coconuts, which is how they got the name! Edit: looked it up. There are, indeed, purple crabs.

Fun fact about crabs, I don’t think there’s a known case of a crab as dying of old age. It’s either being eaten, dying due to a shell disease, being crushed under its own weight because they grow via molting and such until they die, or injury. Though I’m not a scientist and you know the internet.

I mean dying of “old age” is a misnomer in general, isn’t a shell disease essentially dying of old age?

I've heard the same thing about lobster. Best case scenario, they grow so large it is impossible for them to sustain themselves.

Most crabs are actually not red until their boiled/ killed by us their mainly blueish green but admittedly some crabs are reddish in coloration I think which is why video games and other media depict them as so

Crabs are decapods, meaning 10 limbs. Either 2 claws and 8 legs or 2 claws, 6 legs, and 2 flippers in the back. And they have tails that loop around back under into itself.

for the most crab look you could probably shrink the body super small and then put the plates on the top and bottom for a flatter more shell like look. just a suggestion keep up the good work
@seoteltrut
@seoteltrut 3 ай бұрын
I tried making a crab the other day. And yeah, not being able to control the width and thickness sort of sucks. Sort of just stuck with fat crabs. I think I tried making the body itself a bit smaller, and then used the armoured plates that you used, for the bulk of the body. Basically making them as big as I could, then have one on top, one of the bottom. Best I could do to get a somewhat thin, crab-like body.

The closest thing to making a wide build is makiing the main body as thin as possible and add 2 of those health parts, one at the top and on at the bottom.

The real reason why crabs appear to be evolving over and over and over again, is more to do with crustacean morphology and both false crabs and true crabs share a common ancestor and since then have diversified with a crab-like morphology. Different types of animals actually have done the exact same thing, like the crocodile morphs in the fossil record. Nimravides the false cats before cats, are a completely different family to felidae within the sub order feliformia of carnivora that evolved to take on the niche of cats but are not cats. Mole morphology also seems to evolve again and again whether they’re close relatives or completely different type mammals, gophers and marsupial mole are very mole-like and have remarkably similar front limbs of moles
