If that was a Hubnut car, the floor would be rotten, it would have a blown head gasket barely held together with head gasket sealant and it would have cost twice what is a worth. He would have also called it Robin the Renault or something equally butt clenchingly cringeworthy by now as well. If you can get some brake calipers and some springs, you've got a nice little motor there Geoff. I think some anti Khan/ULEZ stickers and a tour of London could be in it's future.

My mum sold me her Renault 10 and bought a Mk1 Escort. The R10 was a superior car to the Mk1 Escort in every way. Disc brakes all round,, Cibie headlights, plush seats, The 1108 engine produced max torque at 2500 rpm and max power at 4,400 rpm. yet the car was quite capable of 80 mph, and mine averaged 45mpg. My mums Mk1 Escort 1100 was gutless with its BAT engine ( bugger-all torque) and averaged 38mpg. The recommended front tyre pressure on the R10 was only16lbs.

That boot is massive, just right for carrying a couple of flag stones to help the weight distribution & handling! Built in the era when function ruled over styling, so we get a very practical if a little bland vehicle! You could make this into a super stealth machine by fitting a Subaru flat 6 motor out of the Outback, 240hp in NA form or about 300 with turbo! The Body looks good enough to carry that level of power!

But yes, on that basis it could be considered the first.

Leave the Sump alone, it'll be leaking from the side gaskets, the crank seal and probably around the fuel pump, not an easy fix in Situ, liable to make it much worse instead of better. Fit the missing nut on the N/S lower axle cup, it holds the axle on. It looks pretty sound tho. Loads of potential for an Upgrade..
