I think it’s fairly obvious that this was emotional for him, even though you’re right he does look nervous but I do not think that’s the only emotion he was going through at that time. He might very well have been “well over the Beatles” at this time as a group, but he still loved all three of those other guys despite the troubles they may have had. To only have the two of them up there to accept that award after it had been nearly 20 years since they had even been in a room together at once, plus one of them had tragically passed at this point. Harrison was a genius, period. He was the only Beatle who was able to disassociate himself from the band: "All Things Must Pass" is a work that stands on its own, no need for Yoko, gossip, bickering... the Bangladesh concert was a big chapter in music History. George's close association with Dylan, Clapton, Ravi Shankar, Indian culture, beliefs and his supergroup The Traveling Wilburys with Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Dylan never needed The Beatles as crutches... Even when the band was the main topic like his support for The Rutles, it showed more of his human side than his Beatle side just like his appearance on SNL in the 70s and his love for F1 and his friendship with Fittipaldi. Harrison blossomed beyond The Beatles... for me, he has the most interesting solo career of all four. It doesn't just emulates music from the past, he created a sound of his own.

I don't know how George got this "nice guy" image just because he was quiet...in reality he was a misogynistic millionaire who struggled to live in the material world while constantly snorting coke and banging groupies and driving supercars. He was funny though
@AnthonyMonaghan8 жыл бұрын
***** Simplistic and naive sir....there was a whole lot more to the man than your assessment. I think George, like most of us did struggle to consolidate being both in the material world whilst trying not to be of the material world. He worked hard to maintain some kind of spiritual sense in this often nonsensical of places. A misogynist you say? That is to imply that he had a deep hatred and loathing of women. I think you are wrong. I doubt that he truly hated anyone. He openly forgave the man who tried to kill him in his own home. A millionaire...he worked bloody hard at what he did particularly during the touring years with The Beatles and those were the fruits of his labour. He was often generous with his money and I believe felt uncomfortable with his conspicuous wealth. As for his struggle with Cocaine, that was an on and off struggle, for a short period of his life that he battled with and prevailed over. George was indeed a man filled with contradictions, like us all, he never denied these things and was quite open about his shortcomings but when you see the deep love and affection shown by his family and friends and those that worked with him, you see another side to him, a side you seem happy to ignore....and yes he had a wicked sense of humour and he wasn't particularly quiet, no more so than say Ringo or Brian Jones or Dave Davies. That was a tag attached to him by the media. If anything I think he struggled to make himself heard around Paul or John! He would have liked your 1954 Telecaster and I think, would have forgiven your harsh judgement of him. It's called being human....Good luck.

I'm not sure where you get that idea. A hypocrite? Aren't we all hypocrites? It doesn't make us bad people, like I said before, it makes us human. I believe George looked at and worked on all his failings. He never maintained he was anything other than another average human being, just getting through life day by day, making his way home, and indeed home is where he seemed happiest, in his garden, with his wife and son. We are all multi faceted beings. We all carry with us our failings and our desires. We can only hope to do the best we can and that it's good enough. I believe George Harrison did just that.

+Dysfunctional Fox sure, but it'll be alot, because right now I'm going to show you why I hate yoko and the truth about her. She really isn't as nice as what she seems. She's a fake bitch. No Yoko didn't actually love him. She only wanted his money and fame. When they were living in New York she would literally spend thousounds of his dollars going on shopping sprees and she would be in recording studios all of the time making her own albums (I have no idea why though because she can't sing)Once she got everything she wanted from John she didn't need him. She wouldn't give him any attention and affection, she made him sexually frustrated and it made him feel very lonely. That's when he realised that he wanted to be with Cynthia again and that he should've stayed with her in case you didn't know he was planning on going back to Cynthia in Dec, 1980. Did you know that yoko literally STALKED and BLACKMAILED when he was with Cynthia? She'd send a ton of letters to their house asking John for money and she'd send notes like 'If you don't support me I'll kill myself' and she'd phone his house all of the time (even though he changed his number because of her like 3 or 4 times) and she'd sit outside of John and Cyn's home everyday all day. John wanted to stay with Cyn and he wanted more children with her, but yoko soon got into his head and convinced him that he didn't love Cynthia. I think that it's disgusting that she purposely split up a husband and wife (Yes they had problems, but they were trying to fix them) and take a father away from a young child. She should be ashamed of herself Oh wait she doesn't care because she now has a SHIT LOAD of money and owns everything thanks to John who worked SO hard to earn everything he achieved, which she did NOTHING for, but yet she now owns everything: His money, his estate and his royalties. Notice I'm saying his alot, that's because that's exactly what they are: HIS and NOT hers, she shouldn't own any of it, but I guess she got what she wanted in the first place. I hate her because she treats his family like shit, especially Julian. He's gone through so much shit because of her. She wouldn't even allow John to see Julian for a few years just because she couldn't see her daughter, that's not fair at all. It was Julian who suffered because of her and because of his dad who stupidly agreed to it, but that's because yoko would control John by using drugs and brain washing techniques and manipulation. As well as that, she sold all of Julian's personal stuff that was personal because of his dad e.g the post cards his dad send him and Julian is entitled to some money because of his dad, but yoko won't let him have it still after 35 years, She's even paid for layers and took him to court, so he couldn't have the money. Also once John and yoko were living in New York she wouldn't even let him speak to his family on the phone, whenever they and Julian tried to phone him yoko would answer and would make an excuse as to why John couldn't talk on the phone. She pushed everyone out out of his life, so she could be seen and known as the only Lennon in his life and that she was the only important one. Even when John and Cyn were friends in the mid 70s and onwards yoko would destroy the letters Cynthia was writing to him, so John couldn't see them which made him sad because he thought she wasn't talking to him anymore. Don't even get me started on what happened after John's death and how cruel she treated his family. John wanted to be burried, he told everyone close to him his fears about being cremated, but yoko didn't care and cremated him just so she could keep him to herself and so his family couldn't say their proper and last goodbyes. She didn't even tell them he died, so they had to find out like everyone else via the media. No family should find out a person from their family had been so tragically killed by finding out through newspapers and the media. She didn't even tell them if he had been burried or cremated or if he was having a funeral or not. She never invited them. At one point she was willing not to let his own son even come because Cyn asked if she could come since Julian was obviously very upset and wanted his mum there. Cynthia asked yoko on the phone, but yoko replied 'I'm sorry, Cynthia, but if you come he doesn't come. It's not like you're an old school friend of mine is it? So Julian had To go on his own. It's like yoko wasn't even letting his family and friends grieve for him. I know it would've been awkward since she was his ex wife, but John was Cyn's love of her life, she loved him deeply, so of course she would be sad and grieve him too. She knew him much longer than yoko and was met him when they were only teenagers. A quote from Cynthia is: "The man I love the most died a tragic death." I think it's absolutely disgusting that yoko uses his death as an excuse to gain more money like the time she publicly displayed his clothes he was shot in and his blood stained glasses only to make people pay to see them. I strongly believe that Cynthia was a million times better than yoko and that Cyn was the real love of his life, here's why I think that: 1) She loved John for him, not his money. 2)She was kind and cared for him deeply. 3)She made sure John was happy whenever she could. 4) She put John before herself. 5) she encouraged John greatly and supported his love of music. 6) She made sure their home was as welcoming and as comforting as she could for John to come home to after being on a tour. 7) She comforted him when he was sad. 8) She was always there for him. 9) In both of her books she never says a bad thing about him and always talks about his strengths and tries to make his weaknesses sound good. The one that really proves she loved him is that she gave up her dream of becoming an art teacher, so John could achieve his dream of becoming a famous musician. People think that she was just a boring person, but she had dreams too and lots of people who knew her say that she was far from boring. She was PERFECT for John, He made a huge mistake leaving her, but deep down I think that he never stopped loving Cynthia ever. I believe that yoko was just a stupid obsession and that Cynthia was the real love of his life. I love John so much, but I hate him for leaving Cyn and treating her bad when all she wanted to do was give him love and affection, but Do you want to know why I think she's a better person than yoko? She has NEVER said a bad thing about yoko and never blames her for their marriage falling apart. Now that shows how much of a better person Cynthia is than yoko. So you see, yoko is actually just a money grabbing, attention seeking, cold hearted bitch and she's pretending to be all kind and sweet in this video. She's just a fake bitch.

George has such a wickedly hilarious and subtly wise sense of humor. And Ringo is just so pure and has such a warm loving energy. Immense respect to these two for being there that night and accepting the induction. It’s really bizarre that the two most “famous” Beatles aren’t there for this, and that the two Beatles who too often took a backseat to them treated this moment with such tenderness and love. Especially George, who was arguably the one most fed up with being “A Beatle” near the group’s breakup. You can see it in his eyes here that he fucking loves The Beatles just like everyone else does. There was so much more. There was Brian Epstein, the boyish young Jewish gay store clerk with no management experience who, on a whim, took an amateur group and made them the biggest stars in the world. There was George Martin, the classical music producer who had the guts to take on four scruffy rock singers and help create some of the greatest recordings in music history. There was John Lennon, the obstinate juvenile delinquent who would not let the group fail and who wrote some of the greatest songs ever composed. Paul McCartney, whose love of rock music made him the perfect partner with his great singing and composition abilities. George Harrison, whose guitar accumen, backup singing and own compositions greatly enhanced the group. And Riingo Starr, an intuitive drummer who recognized the importance of a perfect beat. There was Hamburg, Germany, the tough clubs and adoring German fans who were the first to fully recognize true magic when they saw and heard it. And all those fans who knew the Beatles had to be the greatest music group in rock history. That's the real story.

If you saw interviews of George after Beatles you know that he was another person, more savage, less quiet with a very strong personality, but in this moment and only in this moment he brought back the old George from the Beatles to say thank you

It was probably after the break up of the Beatles that George became my favorite Beatle his humble nature, his wisdom, it leaves me in awe. I actually sat here watching this alone feeling embarrassed for Ringo. I remember an interview with Ringo in the late 90's when he made reference back to this time period where almost in anger he referred back, "Yes, Him...He was a drunk".
