John and Paul could have been a comedy team. Some of their interviews together are so funny as well. The whole group is funny together. You can tell at this stage the band members were really enjoying themselves while creating great music. Notice how when they made mistakes, they were still nice to each other and laughed it off. The friendships and camaraderie of the early Beatles group added to their abilities I believe to make all that great music together.

It's noticeable when you see old clips of them doing press conferences on tour how sharp their minds were and what quick wits they all had and how they acted almost as one mind. What is also apparent in recordings like this is how comfortable they were with each other and the depth of their friendship. Their success was the product of a perfect coming together of everything that was needed. They were four very close loving friends with the talents of two of the most successful songwriters of the century in a group of four people that were willing to subjugate their egos for the good of the work (the music) and they had a genius of a record producer in George Martin who, at least while in the studio, became an accepted member of the group. Their manager had the drive and ambition, maybe fueled by love, to package them and introduce them to the world and set them on a course to almost certain success so even after his death their remained a certain momentum that carried them along for a few more years. Add to that the demographic reality of the coming of age of the baby boom and the unprecedented economic power that was a part of it and, aside from the actual massive talent of its two songwriters and the personal cohesiveness of the band, it makes total sense. At least in my mind, it was the songwriting talent and the personal relationship of the individuals in the group that was the biggest factor in their success and the one thing that couldn't possibly be reproduced or planned for or manufactured. This perfect constellation of factors, like everything else, certainly couldn't last forever but, at least in hindsight, it's easy to see why they were so explosively successful and why they were so revered and their continued impact so many years after their breakup.

+Talking Donkey The Beatles were a very cohesive live band in the beginning although this eroded later in their career. Their recording equipment then is considered primitive by today's standards such that when the band came to record that had to make the best and most economical use of the available tracks - in this case it was probably 2 channel with 4 track capabilities. They couldn't always rely on overdubbing to fill out the resulting product. So, basically they had to actually know how to play the song as well as sing it at the same time. what you heard in the final product was pretty much the actual performance.

Tom Williams That was the Epiphone Casino... Paul got one so John and George went out and got one each as well because they were just like Chuck Berry’s ES-330. They were George and John’s main guitars for the rest of The Beatles touring days and John used his into the ‘70s, Paul still has and uses his. The guitar in question in this vid is Lennon’s 325 complete with his mainstay Vox Python strap. Paul also had and used a re-strung right-handed sunburst Fender Esquire (Tele without a neck pickup) in the studio, notably for the solo on Taxman.

***** No question - the center of the pop music universe and STILL feeling these ripples - as evidenced with the tribute. I don't know if anything was completely 50/50 though. Maybe some of the early ones. Funny how fate decides lives, but people have to open to seeing the possibility or potential. They also worked very hard to get where they were - no accident.
@ZoeTheCat10 жыл бұрын
AllenOption8 Yes - no accident at all. Many people don't realize the schedule they kept. They were absolutely prolific during their relatively short career. I would recommend the following site for all fans: (Google "Pierocarey Beatles Timeline") It highlights their entire recording career on a daily basis. They rarely had a day off. Have a look at what they did on Feb 11 1963 ;-) Simply unbelievable.

I never heard it as taking charge. John was known to "suggest" songs and how they were played. I see it more John suggesting and Paul not agreeing. We tend to forget before they broke up they were close friends and that helped in writing music. Through the 70's they had a strained relationship, yet near 1980 they were speaking to each other and even calling themselves from time to time. SO the strain was healing. Then Dec of 1980 happened and we never got to see how it would have healed. The World lost much that day.

love listening to these. Back in the day when everyone was in the room at the same time. Not separate tracks by one person at a time!

John had a voice like no other before him, or since. It was a mix of raspy, with perfect vibrato, and an incredibly large range.. He truly was an artistic genius in so many different areas.

TheBeatlesRock12341 That was actually Brian Epstein, saying "Been for a shit I see, Macca?" in response to Paul's sassiness about the red light being on. You can tell it's not Paul, since Paul's vocal track is far quieter (just listen to how quiet his response is to John when asked about the red light.)
@billpaul66759 жыл бұрын
Henry Floyd At this time, no one anywhere called McCartney "Macca", that's only been around for a few years. It was always just "Paul". It sounds more like "Megan", but it definitely is not "Macca".

“It’s these damn words”..... John Lennon! John had an endearing propensity for even forgetting the words to his own songs on a regular basis. This Boy and Help caused him particular problems..... how I miss him and George.

I've seen and heard a lot of Beatles stuff in my life but this is the funniest side I've seen yet of this amazing band. This is like being a fly on a wall in the studio with the Beatles, listening to some of their funniest moments. Parts of this are pure joy.
