They take this song to another level. It not only matches the original but shows the Beatles could rock as hard and as fast as anyone ever has. Even with thr primitive live PA's over half a century ago. Their playing is amazing.

You know what's kind of funny about people saying "not as good as Little Richard's version"...if you notice, the Beatles version is in G, an entire key higher than Little Richard's (in F). Usually in cover songs, you'd see bands lower the key to fit their vocal range. The fact that Paul had the balls to sing it higher than his idol is amazing...not to mention, I would bet a lot of that came out of sheer knowledge (or lack of it) from the Beatles. I would bet that at the time, nobody (especially John) would want to record the song in F and have to use a B-flat chord, so they probably just went with what was familiar to them and did it in G (like so many of the other Beatles songs of the era).

By this time John Lennon and co were using Bb and far more sophisticated chords. Listen to the rhythm track of Till There Was You. That is in Key of F and has a lot of what we might call strange chords. Even a chord inversion slide. There is an isolated version and a "lesson" somewhere on KZbin explaining the ins and outs of the track. So I think they just happened to play in G not through any particular reason. McCartney and Lennon's voices also naturally gravitate to G. Look at the number of songs they played and recorded in G.

This performance is among THE greatest rock performances ever. McCartney's voice is phenomenal. Noone has played such driving drums in a rock 'n' roll song as Ringo does here and the guitaring is just fantastic and inventive from George and John.

Great version of Little Richard's song, but NOT better than his! I grew up a Beatle's fan and still am to this day (I'm 64) but you cannot deny Little Richard's talent. His version is THE BEST!

They're firing on all cylinders here. John's guitar could've been louder, but what can you do? I would love to have been able to see them play at their live peak, which, arguably, for some, might be the 3 Saville Row 'concert.' But the early stuff...this rocks. Australia rocks; Sweden rocks. Imagine being in a club, sitting at a table near the stage, drinking a few pints. And these guys are the house band.

In 1964 they did great shows. Watch the whole Washington Coliseum gig they did, it's amazing, they were on fire. Ringo rocks 'I saw Her Standing There' and "Long tall Sally" really hard.

I have seen every video of the live performances of Long Tall Sally by the Beatles, and none, by FAR, compare to the 1964 NME show seen here. In fact, no band since has ever recaptured the same spirit and energy displayed by the Beatles in this performance.
