A good friend of mine has a late 70s 77-78 UK stereo boxed set just as your early 80s set. Matrix cuts were typically one number below yours but some were 2 and the white album had one 1!! The bass is rather high making the whole sound of the set extra warm in overall sound. Thank you friend so much for sharing your new finds!

I’m in bed this week with COVID, so this video was perfect medicine for me. It reminds me that for a long while, all I had were these Stones hits sets and not full albums. My favorite was “Rewind”, although that was on cassette (appropriately). It took “Undercover” to change all that. I’m glad “Lexicon” is getting the respect and recognition it deserves. I just wish Duran Duran would take the time to do better box sets of that caliber! Thanks and appreciation Andrew…although the fact I was watching a video of a guy taking records out of boxes utterly confused my wife!

I finally got my hands on a true 1978 BC-13 Box! They all sound fantastic, except Please Please Me which sounded brick walled. Of course there’s the preference in cuttings but looking past that, they all sounded fantastic. I love the HTM recuts done in the 70’s because they bring so much more detail and life into the recordings. Hopefully I can find that Dutch White Album soon!

Always loved the Dutch pressings. I have a Dutch cut and pressed White Album but it is in a German numbered sleeve. It has the Glass Union and While My Guitar Gentley Weeps mis-spellings on the label. I bought a couple of Dutch Beatles albums in Loughton too back in 1981 but when I checked the records, which I did in the shop, I found they had the English records in the sleeves. I asked them to go and find me the Dutch copies, which fortunately they did. It certainly made for a good Christmas as this was on the 23rd of December.

Apologies. This is a little long...... Great collection there Andrew. Loved Lexicon and seeing this has tweaked my interest. I had already heard original mixes of Tears are Not Enough. Trevor Horn really worked his magic on those tracks. Also, re the Glow in the Dark Stones albums. In the late 70's a British punk band (they were so much more than a punk band, but I digress) named Penetration had their debut album, Moving Target, released on Virgin in 1978. This was a glow in the dark album and the first of it's kind I believe (I stand to be corrected if I am wrong). You are correct in that they need to be exposed to the light for an hour or so before the glow really works. However, I also remember at the time the sound quality was very poor. It crackled and farted like nobodies business and there were many complaints. The band themselves were so disappointed in the pressing that they urged fans to return their copies to the record company and demand a replacement on better sounding black vinyl. No idea how many people did, but I persevered and still have my original copy and the memory of many an hour listening to the album in the dark whilst watching it gently move up and down on the turntable!! Things we did as kids eh? Would be very interested to hear what the sound quality of your Stones albums are like. Sorry this is so long. Great video as always

I was tempted to buy the More Hot Rocks glow in the dark edition until I started reading a number reviews on Amazon complaining about a lot of surface noise from the colored vinyl especially in between tracks. Hi! Great editions there. Hey, I don't know if it's a proper request, but you can make a video about bootlegs, labels like DESS, Purple Chick, Yellow Dog... compilers (like Masterjedi), remixers (like the great Lord Reith), rippers like PBTHAL... and all that world that is very important for any Beatles fan and collector. In fact, you can make a whole video series about bootlegs. Cheers!
@victorhugotoledocofre1366 Жыл бұрын
Hmm... I don't think so. From the beginning Andrew has stated he's not into bootlegs, and will never be. Whenever such records have appeared in the collections he buys, he quickly dismisses them. Check his unboxing videos from 5 years ago to learn more. 🤔

Excellent video as usual Andrew. I'll put my Dutch 1A reissue of Beatles For Sale with the Dutch cutting up against the UK tube cut original for sound quality. Nice, smooth and rich. Also the Dutch reissues suffer far less in the wear department especially escaping that inner groove distortion on Kansas City (Hey, Hey, Hey) that's so prevalent on the UK originals.

Very interesting to see and to hear your comments on the dutch BC13 👍 I bought a BC13 this spring - but it opens sideways (not on top). It has all dutch pressings (many of them the same as the ones that were dutch in your set). The box is worn, but the records are pristine (looks like they might never have been played) and the covers are perfect except for at few damages to the top-seams. I paid GBP 115 (DKK 1000,-) and think this was a VERY good price 😊

As AverageJoeVinyl said, your knowledge of the sound quality of the pressings based on the matrix numbers is amazing. I'm sure you've spent some time getting to this point, but that makes it no less amazing. In regard to the Stones greatest hits records, I have High Tide And Green Grass, and Through The Past Darkly on the London label from over here in the States. The first one was the first Stones album I ad, and I bought when it came out in 1966. As with anything cut in the UK, I'm sure those are better sounding.

Good video. I think the photos of the Stones (at about 12:30 in the video) were not for Out of Our Heads but for the Andrew Oldham Orchestra LP called The Rolling Stones Songbook (US London LL3/PS 457) which uses one of them on the front cover. I also have in my collection a 1982 UK pressing of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine LP with side one matrix XEX 715-1, side two YEX 716-2. Only side two has HTM engraved. Cover and labels say stereo but side one is in mono. An oddity.
