Blast Processing was actually a term coined by a sega engineer referring to ways to get more colors on the screen , and the marketing team took that phrase and ran with it as a way to describe its very fast CPU, which did really benefit the console.

PS1 I regretted not getting just due to the sheer volume of titles. I ended up with the N64 had a bit of a wrestling obsession. N64 had titles that were good just not many that genuinely interested me. I admit though at the time Goldeneye 007 had me obsessed along with Resident Evil 2. I eventually ended up with a PS2 which somewhat made up for it

I'm a 40 yr old millennial, games was pretty much always good for me. I mean at 4 I played Atari and loved it because it was better than board games. But a year later I got an NES and I was amazed and loved it. Then sega Genesis, 64, PlayStation, PS2...etc. It was incredible to see the evolution of gaming since I was a kid. Corporations are pay to win is ruining gaming now though. I find I love indie titles on PC the past few years. Nintendo still has my heart of course.

Seriously epic video dude, I can't imagine working on something this long. Great job compiling all the clips / commercials and facts. One small thing I noticed, the Atari Jaquar controller you showed is the 2019 Pro version. It actually is a fanastic redesign, with more responsive buttons and the 3 addition buttons making it the first 6 button controller for the system. The original controller only had 3 buttons (plus the num pad allowed for overlays - AVP for example).

I'm going to assume that the 1984 film "Cloak and Dagger" was Atari's attempt at saving the 5200 and the video game industry. The movie is centered on a young gamer named Davey played by Henry Thomas who was a rising star fresh off his breakout role in ET. Davey spends most of his time playing video games. The plot of the film begins when Davey witnesses the murder of an FBI agent who with his dying breath gives him an Atari 5200 game cartridge that contains military secrets. Davey must now guard the important cartridge with his life and prevent it falling into the hands of an evil terrorist organization who are hell bent on getting ahold of the sensitive information it contains. Atari designed graphics for the fictional Cloak and Daggar game and got a lot of product promotion from their brand being featured in the movie. I consider it to be a timeless classic from my childhood. Unfortunately, it was released a year after the video game crash of 1983 which did not help it achieve the results Atari was hoping for. When you consider the poor performance of the Atari 5200 it is easy to see why the movie did little to restore public interest in video games.

honestly i kinda feel like console gaming is dying: 1) Playstation & Xbox release their games on PC now 2) with physical media dying off there is no benefit to get a console instead of buying games on PC 3) hybrids are getting more populair and they have all the benefits of being a handheld & PC/console 4) playing on PC is so much cheaper and accesable i used to be a Nintendo enjoyer but ever since i migrated to Steam and when i got my Steam Deck, i started to feel that consoles are just obselete. The only thing holding it back is the stereotype that you need to tinker a lot with PC games to get a good expierence which isn't really the case for me. Steam Proton has been able to fix most instances of a game not booting up for me.

I used to only ever play games on console but even I'm moving over to PC
@Sinn0100
@Sinn0100 Ай бұрын
"Number 2- There is no benefit to getting a console." I would say the cost of a console alone being far, far cheaper than a PC ends that number pretty quickly. Further, this notion that all console games are coming to PC is just a blatant lie. Tell me, master race, how do you intend to play GTAVI? Moving along. Not every game releasing on consoles is fully digital. We (fiancee and I) own an Xbox Series X, PS5, Steam Deck, and Switch right now. I would say a good majority of my games are on disc and can be played offline. I do my utmost to buy everything physical because I'm not paying full price to rent my games. I would also say there are quite a few games that have not appeared on a PC, I'm afraid. Lastly, your attempt at logically trying to spin a PC as being better than a console doesn't really hold water. You say that we should just get a PC instead but still present the very same set of problems. Why in God's glorious name would I pay double+ for pretty much the exact same experience with tons of DRM? Nope. Unfortunately, PC gaming is just as screwed as console gaming. You do realize once Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo takeover full distribution of all console games, they will be coming for the PC next. Microsoft has already openly admitted they wish to aquire Steam and are fine with performing a hostile takeover. The video game industry, as we know it, is heading for a monumental crash, and there is nothing that is going to stop it. No matter your platform of choice, it's all gone. Thankfully, I'm prepared for this little eventuality...are you?
@Sinn0100
@Sinn0100 Ай бұрын
Ooops... one more thing- The Steam Deck is neat but better than a console? It's better than the Switch but does not hold a candle to either the Series X or PS5. Although it is nice to play my Series X and PS5 games on our Steam Deck, that's pretty neat.
@Doktario_Mystario
@Doktario_Mystario Ай бұрын
@@Sinn0100 PC is cheaper than console because everyone already has a PC (just not neccesairly the most powerful on the market). And if where talking prices and DRM, you don't have to limit yourself to Steam and there are plenty of (free) open source games on PC
@Doktario_Mystario
@Doktario_Mystario Ай бұрын
@@Sinn0100 you say i'm a PC master race but i literally say in my comment that i used to be a Nintendo enjoyer. I don't care for the highest possible graphics (in fact i prefer older graphics over "modern graphics", the type of gameplay i enjoy is very broad (i only really strongly dislike multiplayer-only and Stealth games). i mostly play indie and fan-games. And lastly i don't discriminate a game for having a specific art style (visually i can pretty much enjoy anything with very rare exeptions like the current Pokemon games)

For games such as Street Fighter, I much preferred the sega 6 button layout vs the SNES layout. With the sega controller, you can hold the controller in such a way that your right hand fingers layed on the abc/xyz buttons. Capcom even made a 3rd party controller setup like that called the Capcom Pad Soldier for Genesis & SNES. This was not possible with the default SNES controller and required you to use the awkward left shoulder button. Modern controllers are not as bad since they have 2 buttons on the right shoulder.

You forgot about how 3D Blu-ray helped in 2010 and 2011 by making the PlayStation 3 the world's cheapest 3D Blu-ray player especially if you already owned the PlayStation 3 is the world's cheapest Blu-ray player. They also made the world's best 3D screen for gamers the PlayStation 3D TV. But what killed 3D shortly after that was the promised Super Bowl that was reneged on. It was it was abandoned because it was found that 70% to 90% of people would be unable to watch the Super Bowl if it was broadcast in 3D due to 2D incompatibility.

The funny thing about Sega's blast processing is that they claimed that it made games like Sonic possible and that Nintendo couldn't handle quick scrolling. There's a prototype game called Bio Force Ape for the NES that is just as fast, if not faster. It's a game that was developed during the NES' lifespan, but was never officially released. Turns out the NES had blast processing all along!

To be honest, I only wanted to take a quick look because 3 hours is a bit daunting. I would recommend making the whole video into 6 or 12 parts. Don't get me wrong, I think it's really good, but I suspect you'll scare a lot of people off with 3 hours. The first 2 hours are much more detailed, which I liked. The last 20 years definitely went too fast for me. I watched the whole thing anyway;)

I was actually thinking about that. I also thought about doing separate parts and then putting them all together as a big video after they're all out.

Glad to hear your perspective! I would add that plenty of Genesis games on both consoles were actually better because, ironically, the less amount of colors left space for more content. These games (especially the ones made by EA) were first programmed for Sega, so there was less time for polish on the SNES, and it showed (think: NHLPA '93 / Jungle Strike / FIFA / Flashback) Also: Street Fighter II was released a year earlier on the SNES, and that was a BIG deal. Looking at the sales figures, Nintendo caught up a bit with that release. But then the Genesis moved ahead again in 1993 because of Mortal Kombat and Aladdin. Then in 1994 the Super Nintendo came back with Donkey Kong Country and Super Metroid.

@@calic737 On the Genesis it has better first impressions, because it looks better and you get to use a sword. However, I think the level design is annoying, the hit boxes are unclear, the bosses are just lame. Give it a shot though! Perhaps you'll love it!

No matter how often I hear it said, it still feels surreal that the Gamecube was a financial failure. The Gamecube was the first home console I was allowed to have and at the time, it felt great to be a Gamecube owner - it had so many great games that also would go on to be well-remembered classics. So much so that it took me well into 2009 or 2010 to learn the console wasn't very successful. I never put much stock into the console wars mind you - it's just always such a stark dissonance.

I was so hyped to get my Gamecube. Metroid Prime and the Ocarina of Time Master Quest pre-order bonus thing were the ones I probably played the most. I was a teen in high school around that time and it was a fun thing to joke about which console was better. I don't think most people were that serious about it.
