I like your point #2 - Playing slowly. I have learned to slow down a lot when practicing no matter how difficult or simple the piece. It's the only way to catch 'small' movements that is so crucial in playing the entire piece effortlessly and smoothly later on. I lack patience because I want to get there fast but the quality of the music suffers. Thank you for posting this informative and quality video as always!

I saw John Williams in concert periodically remove his left hand hand from the fret board while playing. Almost like 1 single shake of the hand by the downward motion of it. He would put it right back on and continue and not lose any time, but I think he was also resting his hand like your “pillows”

Yes I'm pretty sure too, because as I said in the video, with practice you'll need less time to relax your hands over the time.

Really useful video. I am trying hard to avoid getting tension in my right hand when playing. So good to get your thoughts. Hadn’t heard of leaning back a little for posture!

Thanks so much Beatrix, your videos are always helpful, I watch them twice, I enjoyed them a lot, musicality, technique, expression, pillows for distressing muscles, crescendos, decrescendos, makes guitar interpretation becomes alive and get personality. Ergonomic body positions are also a very good idea for having a painless practices. Warm up before and after practice it is also a must, I loved your guitar lift. Thanks again for taking time creating such amazing videos and for sharing them with us. May God always bless you.

Hi Beatrix, your tips are very effective and really well explained. I have been watching some videos on technique and there are few videos that carefully deal with how to reduce tension not only in the fingers, but in the neck, spine, shoulders, etc. It all starts with proper warm-up, posture and “pillows points” as you well said 👍🏻 Congrats 👏🏻

Hello Beatrix! I'm a classical guitar player and I wanted to thank you for what you're doing, your channel is just amazing, I'm in love with it! Cannot make myself stop watching the videos, so much useful information and such a sincere presentation. It's a shame there wasn't anything like this when I was a student. But it's never too late to learn :) I wanted to ask you what size of guitar lift are you using? will be grateful for your answer!

I had a guitar lift, it was great for holding the instrument in a good position, but it didn't last long. The threads for the screws in the pads were made from extremely brittle plastic that crumbled really easily, rendering it useless.

Thoughts on playing cold (no warm-up) to simulate a performance scenario? Or are you always warmed up before you play for an audience? Do you think playing cold is a skill in itself?
@beatrixguitar
@beatrixguitar 3 жыл бұрын
I think some people are better in it, some worse, but no one isplaying as good with cold hands as after a proper warm up. Or maybe theyca play quite good, but it causes several issues afterwards. Imagine you goto the gymor do sports without warming up. The next day it will hurt much more than with warm up. Ad once or twice it happens but I''m sure if someone playes without warming up always that will have it's impact later in the future

May I ask what kind of strings you are using? Those basses look reddish, a lot like the Aquila loaded CD type strings.

sure, basses are Aquila rubino, trebles are Galli-Genius titanium

1-Do you mean 42 and 3 1/2 years at it isn't being trained and patient enough?. 2-Watch out though for that head butting goat there on your back ground. Or is it on a Reynolds' phone sevice add?. 3- Do play on, but aelso...Shema!!! a la Lazarus' Maria for she chose the best part for herself, like some people only found out too late in life.

Found it. Blimey! That’s expensive for a piece of acrylic, suction cups, and a foam rubber edging strip.
