Thank you. I've been trying to study Bolognese for about the last nine months or so, and I couldn't quite get the hang of the actions. It irritates me because I fenced saber for years, but I wasn't making a connection. This video gave me a better understanding of what I was missing. Thank you.

Nice video. The Anonimo has a ton of mezzo mandritto beats, CLS vs CLS. It says to make sure your beat does not go past pdfs. That way, if they go to sfalsata and thrust, it advises you to do a turn of the hand and counter thrust.

Yup, a beat (and a parry) with a mezzo mandritto / riverso are super common due to leaving the blade nicely in presence. This interestingly even reflects several actions in the german sources as well. :)

I do enjoy your explanations a lot. I might plan a trip to Postdam to get lessons there.

I don't think true edge beats are safer per se, and to explain, I have to start with this: there are two kinds of beats depending on what you want to do after them, you either 1) continue the initial beat motion in some vaguely circular-ish way, or 2) use the opponent's sword to either stop entirely or bounce back in the opposite direction to initial beat. It's the bouncy beats that are safer, for a simple reason of never leaving the central space with their guard, blade and point. And while it's really hard to find a viable false edge bouncy beat (arguably, there is the cut from low guard against opponent's descending cut, but not much else I can think of), not all true edge beats are necessarily bouncy - some are (Zornhau-ort, I.33's mutatio gladii into nucken), but not all (pretty much any beat with a montante, some interpretations of Meyer's Rosen). That said, it could well be that the Bolognese sources only or mostly tell you to do bouncy beats with the true edge, so true edge bets really are safer in the Bolognese context.

There's some in the Anonimo. False edge beats (CLS vs CLS) that are followed by a roverso tondo to the face or a roverso to their arm. I'm assuming these are the kind you are describing. Then, of course, there are a ton from pdfs.

Yup, I spoke in general terms, but the reason you give is pretty spot on. Doing big motions will always result in a larger tempo for the opponent to recover. Sometimes this is combined with a feint, but that relies on the opponent wanting to parry as well. The other bit is about the true edge closing out the opponent a bit earlier. Dall'Agocchie also argues that defenses with the true edge are safer due to parrying more to the strong part of the blade, lending itself more towards the thrust and (again) not departing the enemies presence.

please, make a video about the different grips of each sword, I have found a looooong variety on the internet, both for two-handed swords and sideswords, and many of these videos contradict each other or do not explain the uses or ways of gripping it well

The cross guard you are using reminds me of the Alexandria swords. Did you get that custom made, or it’s it from a windlass or deepeeka? That is one of, if not, my favorite cross guard in all of history.
