Like several other commenters, I first watched this as a child, and that was my intro to the BBs. The melodies in this song immediately penetrated me, and they've stayed with me all these years. And they flow perfectly. The singer tells the story with the first. The second (the "laugh laugh" part) is more exuberant. The third ("Oh so lonely") is quieter, introspective, and forlorn. Each melody is catchy, and all together flow into a full experience. This really is a great song.

I always thought it was the Mersey sound, and I have always loved this song. It was great to find out the Beau Brummell were actually from San Francisco. One of so many great groups to come out of the Bay Area in that era. We Fiive also from San Francisco has a similar sound as far as I am concerned. This is a great clip I remember it when it was first shown. I only question is: was that actually the Beau Brummels singing? It sounded kind of slow as compared to the actual version, which I am absolutely familiar with.

On this day in 1965 {December 3rd} the Beau Brummels, as the Beau Brummelstones, made a guest appearance on the ABC-TV program 'The Flintstones'... As shown above they performed "Laugh, Laugh"*; and just under a year earlier on December 27th, 1964 the song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #96, seven weeks later on February 14th, 1965 it would peak at #15 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for 12 weeks... Six days prior to their appearance on 'The Flintstones' their "Don't Talk to Strangers" was at #62 on the Top 100 and that was also its last day on the chart... * Personally, when I first heard "Laugh, Laugh" in 1964 I thought the song's title was "Last Laugh", and it could have been, for it fits...

@richallenxbox1976 the lead singer on the recording was actually the tambourine player, Sal Valentino ... shows you how little Hanna-Barbera cared about accuracy. The "Paul McCartney" lookalike, Ron Elliot, wrote the song, but only sang the lower backing vocals.

They caricatured the group well with the exception of the drummer, John Petersen, who had blonde hair and a handsomer face. In fact, he looks way too much like Ringo in this and that might have been intentional, in order to give the San Francisco-based group a more British Invasion association. Declan Mulligan was from Fethard, County Tipperary, Ireland (just a few miles west of where my great-grandmother was from in Upper Ballywalter). Another boo-boo is that Ron Elliott is portrayed singing the lead when it was actually Sal Valentino (with the tambourine) who was the lead vocalist. I wonder if this recording of Laugh, Laugh was specially done for this Flintstones episode or whether it was an alternate take used for the purpose. It definitely reveals well the bass line played by Ron Meagher. The back cover of the group's second album portrays more accurately the group as Flintstones cameos, albeit minus Declan Mulligan who had left the band. Still, it's a great clip to see despite some discrepancies only anal-retentive Felix Ungers like me would even bother to point out.
