This has become my favorite house plant of late. I had seen one in a KZbin video and loved the bulb that forms on the bottom. Too me about 4 months to find one. That was 6 months ago. Bought it as a baby with just a few leave and no stem or bulb. Today it is almost a foot tall and when just watered, has a spherical bulb about the size of a golf ball. Though no stem as of yet. From what I understand, the secret is to let it get very dehydrated before you water. If the bulb looks like a raisin and is as thin as the stem (or what it should be had you one) then it is ready to water. If you water it before then you will not get a big bulb. Just a fat stem like the one in this video. I water it once every 40 day or so and it's bulb almost doubles in size from the previous watering each time. I have a goal with this to bonsai it. Keep the bulb large and low to the ground and only let a few stems come up from it.

I never separated them. I control their size by keeping them in small pots. On sale at Lowe’s for $1.50 each. They are still alive and green. Living their best plant lives! They will be 11years old this summer 🎉. I bought 6 more baby pots at Walmart 2 years ago. Some have 9, 7, 11. I will need to repot them when they out grow the pot. I like raising them from babies.

My cat did the same thing. I've been slowly replacing all of our house plants due to losing all of them in a house fire, back in Aug 2017, since rebuilding and moving in, in October 2019. Bought several new plants the other day, this one being one of the first ones I brought in. After setting it down on my dining room table, my cat confirmed decades, possibly centuries, of cat owners suspicions that cats, are indeed, capable of teleportation! I swear, she was there gnawing on that beautiful, leafy bouffant before I could even take my hand away from the pot! Honestly, I shouldn't have been so surprised by any of this. She is obsessed with one of my little succulents, that I brought home about 6 months ago. She doesn't care about any of my other succulents, just the succulent that we now refer to as "the one". She was digging this thing up any chance she could, then would nonchalantly, carry it around the house, as it were her baby. I ended up hanging it from the ceiling to keep her from being able to get to it, but after being a witness to feline teleportation, I'm thinking hanging things from the ceiling is a waste of time.

This is the only plant my cat is obsessed with. I finally had to get one just for her. They’re not toxic to pets. My cat is not food motivated and is very picky. I think it is because the plant looks similar to cat grass, which she loves. This is the only thing we fight over 😂

I have one that my aunt gave me to try to renurture as it was dying and brown. It started getting root rot. However I have taken it put it out into the sun to dry and mist it lightly below the pot. It likes water and shrinks when it needs more water. However its sprouds are still brown, I can tell it is much heathlier then it was before and is still drinking and alive. It seems much happier then the plant was before, but I was wondering if new sprouts can ever grow back after damaged or if they just take a long time. Accept for the old dry stems from before I took it, it is much much healthier now and looks almost completely normal besides its old leaves. It drinks water, I water it about 1 inch once a week, and light mist it daily early in the morning with three squirts in the bottom part of the vase away from its base, one mist over its leaves, i put it out during the warm summer, and it loves and drinks all the bit of water up and thrives in the warm weather. So I think this ponytail palm is almost back to normal minus the new growth. They definately love drinking lots of water but they need to heat to help keep them from getting too damp. So my vase is round and the pony tail palm sits in a draining pot, I only ever water the vase, and mist the leaves, it loves that. They also don't like cold weather at all not even the tiniest bit, so I bring it in every night. I always keep it out of the shade, as it doesn't like to sit in shade for too long and the person who had it originally had it in a shady area. I researched the plants habitat and tried to water and care for it the way it would be in its habitat which is a mid desert/tropical enviroment which means they still get some misted water everyday, just enough heat and energy to absorb its soft trunk from getting root rot and diseases. I also have a few small mangos, avocados, mini tropical sunflowers "Million Gold" and a huge baby cotton wood tree and they all like water, they all like heat, sun, and most of them are all highly suspectible to diseases and root rot. So I try to care for them attentively.
@brittanyritenour46952 жыл бұрын
I do like the tropical plants and because they all have somewhat similar care, it makes it easier to stay in routine with them. As other plants need different care. I love tropical plants and like them I also love hot weather, sun, and water. Mangos like the most water, cottonwood tree, million gold, avocados, and lastly the pony tail palm.

This is another great plant! I love this plant and all of it's character. I also like beaucarnia stricta. I have noticed that every time this plant would get rootbound and I would pot it up to a larger pot the caudex would expand to a larger size quickly. These plants are tough and very rewarding to grow. Speaking of cats... they like to claw up the caudex which can ruin the appearance of the plant in a very short time. So beware the curious kitty!

I put it in direct sunlight but a weeks later and it’s leaves are looking really pale so I figured too much sunlight. I know it’s leaves have burned before from our UV light for the gecko that lived with it. I repotted it again because I noticed it’s been a month and the soil doesn’t look any drier. Maybe I just over watered once and ddidnt realize how much water I put in the bucket cause I couldn’t see much to begin with. Well my poor baby has been through so much and I didn’t think when I repotted it for the second time that maybe I should just put it in dry soil. I cut all the dead leaves of to give it a fighting chance but it’s sprouts from before i moved are so saggy and the leaves are all really light. Should I repot again but give dry soil? Should I leave in direct or indirect sunlight for this already severely shocked dying baby 😭
